((Deck 14, Main Engineering, The Pool Table, USS Ronin))
Morgan: ::folding her arms across her chest:: Must be something important.
Cabrillo: ::almost a full eye roll:: Isn't it always?
Wren: Do we know who the other specialist is?
It looked as though Morgan was going to respond, when they were interrupted by the comm badge chirping. Quickly, Delphina closed the panel she was working on, getting to her feet.
Morgan: Go for Morgan.
Tucker: =/\= Could you round up the gang? We’ve got something to keep us busy. I’ll explain in a couple of minutes. Tucker out.=/\=
Miller: ::to no on in particular::Did you know, I like puzzles?
Cabrillo: ::looking to Chip:: So noted Ensign.
Wren: ::affectionately:: Yes, and yet you refuse to do a Lament Configuration with me.
((A few moments later, Main Engineering, The Pool Table, USS Ronin))
Delphina glanced up as Tucker walked in, leaning carefully on a nearby console, crossing her ankles. She was trying to appear relaxed, but she was sure everyone in the room was feeling as much anticipation as she was. Remy stirred in her hair a little, making sure her bun was secure, before she felt the heat leeching away from him as he went into sleep mode. oO aw… all tired out. Oo
Tucker: Good morning or evening, depending on what shift you were pulled from. First off, does anyone have a working knowledge of bio-mechanics?
Morgan: Not I, Chief.
Chip just shrugged.
Cabrillo: ::titling his head:: Bio-mechanics? As in bio-neural gel packs, Borg enhanced systems? Yes, plenty of that tech on the Butler. Sagan class ships are full of advanced tech like that. Or are you talking about something different?
Wren: ::awkwardly:: I have an experience with biology and physiology? My mothers and brother are doctors so I know my way around an anatomy lab.
Tucker placed his PADD on the pool table, and Delphina stepped a little closer, looking down at the image. At first she had no idea what she was looking at, tilting her head as she took in the blurry picture. oO Is that….. a dinosaur? Or a whale of some sort? Oo
Tucker: This is what some people believe is a space-born entity. So far any attempts to scan it, had turned out like this picture before you. We’re to figure out a way to scan it, which I think we can do with that long-range package we put in for stellar cartography last time we were in port. Just before we left for shore leave, I believe.
Morgan: Yes, it’s aboard, but installed, that’s another thing altogether chief.
Cabrillo: Do we know what different scan techniques were used prior to brass running to us for this assignment?
Wren: I've been working on a project that involves three-dimensional scans using multiple small probes? The stage it's at right now won't give us a high definition image either, but it might give us an approximate size and shape for the creature?
Tucker turned to Chip.
Tucker: Mister Miller, I need you to start level four diagnostics on the tractor beam and deflector dish.
Delphina blinked, a little taken aback at the suggestion that they might need a tractor beam with something that size. oO Why would we….. No, we couldn’t possibly use the tractor beam on it. The ship’s engines aren’t powerful enough to hold it. We’d just end up being towed along. Oo Delphina shot a cautious look to Morgan, before quickly glancing away, keeping her thoughts to herself.
Morgan: So, when we manage to scan this thing, then what?
Cabrillo: Based on that scan and the data given, this thing is huge. Are we for sure this is not man made and is a biological lifeform?
Wren: Either one is equally likely, but is it possibly both? The size is one thing on its own. I don’t know much about space-born biology, but I’d imagine the lack of gravity would allow it to grow to an enormous size, but the difficulty with scanning…. I wonder if that’s a technological feature?
Tucker: Good question. The quick answer is, I’m not sure.
Cabrillo: Not to rain on anyone parade, but you get a tractor beam on that thing and it decides to go Wild Bill on the Ronin, you know we're in for one rough ride?
Wren: ::Quickly:: I was concerned about that too! I’m not sure that the engines could take something like that…
Tucker held up his hands in mock surrender.
Tucker: They’re all valid questions, but I don’t have a lot of answers yet. I’ll admit, I’m not much for bio-mechanics, I’d like to learn more. But there are never enough hours in the day, and I think we can all attest to that.
Morgan: Preaching to the choir chief.
Cabrillo: So what's the plan? Start with scans from this fancy equipment you brought aboard and just wing it from there?
Tucker/Morgan/Chip: Response
Cabrillo: ::looking to Chip:: I think your atmospheric regulators can wait. You have a new, much larger puzzle on your hands.
Delphina smiled, nudging Chip affectionately.
Wren: I could take a look into past space-born encounters as well to see if any of them experienced a similar issue with the scanners? I could also start a general update on them to increase visibility and bio-readings, though we may lose the ability to see the color cerulean. I can send you the schematics in an hour?
Tucker/Morgan/Chip: Response
Cabrillo: I do not see any data in this file that even indicates the energy type or output that could be causing this level of sensor interference. Did these others even get anything for us to go one or are we really walking into this urgent mission blind?
Delphina anxiously pressed her PADD to her chest, waiting to hear his response. The last mission had them going in blind, but that was different. The mission was an accident , it was just something that had happened to the ship. But this was different, this was sent to them by Starfleet. Shouldn’t Starfleet tell them….. A little more?
Cabrillo/Tucker/Morgan/Chip: Response
Wren: I can only prepare so much without more information. I can take a look at the engines to see if they’re prepared for….. Lassoing?
Cabrillo/Tucker/Morgan/Chip: Response
Delphina nodded, opening a checklist on her PADD as she listened to what they were all supposed to do. But she couldn’t quite drop a feeling of…. Was it distrust? oO You can’t just… not trust Starfleet. It’s Starfleet, they…If the full picture was truly important, Starfleet would have included it in the briefing. Oo
Cabrillo/Tucker/Morgan/Chip: Response
