((Sickbay, Deck 10, USS Ronin))
((Adding a quick Tag higher for quick introductions for the doctors/ thus only adding 2 bellow))
It was unusual to be in a new Sickbay, and perhaps even more unusual not to have their rather youthful chief medical officer present. Arriving somewhat early, Taj’el had first presented their orders to the individual they had believed to be the chief medical officer, Doctor Shortrith, only to be redirected shortly thereafter to Doctor Beck.
An eyebrow arched slightly as they realized their information had become thoroughly outdated and that their journey had taken far longer than was ideal. Since the medical emergency that had prompted their transfer had already concluded, Taj’el simply offered their services to assist with the treatment of those returning from the mission. They also indicated that they would be willing to cover shifts if any of the medical staff wished to extend their shore leave. The quiet need to prove themselves useful remained a persistent presence in the back of their mind.
They took a moment to properly observe the two physicians with whom they had spoken. Afterward, they moved to a nearby station and began reviewing research related to a small side project they intended to work on while aboard. They had noted in Doctor Shortrith’s file that the physician was Klingon; however, seeing them in person was… fascinating.
The human chief medical officer was also considerably taller. It appeared that their lack of height would be a recurring pattern among the crew, something they could attribute, with mild resignation, to the randomness of genetic inheritance.
Taj’el: Lieutenant Junior Grade Taj’el. I am here on temporary assignment. As the crew is currently on shore leave, you were welcome to have me to cover any shifts should you wish additional time to rest following your mission.
Beck / Shortrith: response
At that moment, the familiar whoosh of the Sickbay doors sounded as another individual entered. Another human walked in, though, upon closer inspection, perhaps not entirely human. Human-like Vulcan? A hybrid, possibly. They seemed to match the height of the others in the room.
There was also something about them that seemed faintly familiar.
Jace: Ensign Jace Ryen, reporting for routine intake physical.
As they stated their name, Taj’el moved to a nearby computer terminal and began accessing the patient’s medical file, briefly confirming their species in the process. Their eyes returned to the ensign as they reviewed the information, observing them with quiet focus.
For a moment, they seemed to forget that they themselves were still a temporary presence in this Sickbay as they pulled on a pair of medical gloves.
Taj’el: Ensign Ryen, please proceed to the biobed… ::They paused abruptly, seeming to realize their assumption:: Forgive me, Doctors. It was a force of habit.
Beck / Shortrith: Response
Jace: Newly assigned to Security. I was told Sickbay would want to confirm I'm still assembled correctly after transport.
Ah. They recalled seeing him disembark from a shuttle in passing when they had first arrived. Glancing once more at his file, they confirmed that their arrivals had occurred at nearly the same time. This was… interesting.
He was also the first Vulcan they had spoken to since receiving this assignment. The additional detail that he appeared to be a hybrid was likewise noteworthy, though Taj’el was aware that pursuing such lines of curiosity would likely be considered poor bedside manner.
Taj’el: I shall leave the matter to you both, then. I can return to my research on ultraviolet radiation.
Beck / Shortrith: Response
While quietly observing the officers around them, Taj’el made brief eye contact with Ensign Ryen as he settled onto the biobed. One eyebrow lifted slightly as they wondered what conclusions he might have drawn from the exchange.
When they themselves had joined their previous ship, they had been sent on an away mission almost immediately. In comparison, arriving during shore leave seemed a far more logical time to integrate into a new crew, though they suspected that those with a greater preference for adventure might find such timing… dull. Taj’el, however, would have preferred the dull.
Jace: No ongoing medical concerns that I am aware of. I follow a regular training schedule and have a longstanding commitment to avoiding things that explode when possible. Working in Security admittedly reduces the likelihood of achieving that last goal.
Taj’el: The information was appreciated, though unnecessary. Everything should already have been recorded in your file.
Beck / Shortrith: Response
Logically, Taj’el concluded that it would be beneficial to observe how the physicians aboard the Ronin conducted their work so that they might adapt to a similar system. Three doctors were certainly unnecessary for a routine medical examination, yet they chose to remain present nonetheless.
Their gaze shifted briefly toward the Klingon, taking in the striking differences in appearance compared to the single Klingon acquaintance they had known at the Academy. It was then that they noticed the heterochromia. Ah… fascinating.
Realizing they had been staring somewhat longer than was appropriate, Taj’el redirected their attention back to the ensign.
Taj’el: I had noticed that the Ronin appeared to have a considerable number of security officers.
Beck/Shortrith/Ryen: Response
It was then that Taj’el realized they had not properly introduced themselves to the ensign. The observation they had just made might therefore seem somewhat unusual if the ensign assumed they were a permanent member of the Ronin’s medical staff.
Taj’el: Forgive the delayed introduction. I was Lieutenant Junior Grade Taj’el of the USS Thor. I was currently on temporary reassignment for research purposes. ::Said to the new Ensign::
Beck/Shortrith/Ryen: Response
