((Medical Lab 1 - Sickbay Complex - Deck 7 - USS Excalibur-A))

The time between boarding the Excalibur had been a blur for the young ensign Syrex, either it was the twist and turns that her day appeared to be taking or the distracting focus that the symbiont was providing her with. Although the Vesta Class USS Excalibur, from what she’d noticed when she came up for air, seemed to be much larger than the Akira Class USS Ronin, as well as much cleaner and up to date. "It reminded Alyndra of the Starfleet outposts she had visited before being assigned to the USS Ronin. The USS Ronin was different from what Alyndra was used to. Even though she hadn’t been on board for long, she found it to be unique and missed it."

As Alyndra reminisced, she tended to the symbiont, nostalgic of her childhood summers spent as an apprentice to the symbiosis commission. Leaning into a small pool which had been thoughtfully constructed for Salix within the confines of medical lab one, presumably by the Excalibur’s medical team. Salix seemed weak, not that Alyndra blamed them. Reaching out her fingers into the cool liquid of the pool, she felt weak electrical pulses stimulate her fingertips, the symbiont wasn’t well, only time would tell if it would get better.

Lorana: :: to Syrex :: Ensign, what's the symbiont life signs?

Alyndra took her hand from the pool, wiping the liquid off using a nearby surgical towel. Sighing, she replied to the Catlian Lieutenant.

Syrex: :: In a hush tone:: It’s alive

Lorana: Given your tone, I'm going to assume that none of that is a good sign.

The Catlian moved towards the console at the end of the pool.

Syrex: The electrical pulses in the pool are weak. For a symbiont, it’s the equivalent of a whisper, unfortunately, to communicate in this fashion, I’d need a symbiont myself, so for now, what it’s trying to say remains foreign.

Lorana: Our priority should be -

Alieth: =/\= Lieutenant Lorana, Ensign Syrex, what is the current status of our rescued? =/\=

Lorana: =/\= Commander, the symbiont didn't fare too well being displaced from its former tank. We're currently working with the Excalibur medical team to stabilise it. =/\=

Syrex: =/\= The symbiont also appears to wish to communicate, not that I blame it. However, to do this organically, we would need another symbiont=/\=

Luxa could almost feel Alieth's disapproving frown vibrate through the ship.

Alieth: =/\= This ship should be much better equipped than the Rhine, what do you have in mind to restore their stability, what are your current plans? =/\=

Syrex: =/\= We could recreate the environment it’s more accustomed to using a holodeck, there will be a few key factors we must consider to succeed  =/\=

Lorana: =/\= I think we'll need to simulate the natural bioluminescent energy field of the symbionts caves … we can do this by placing an energetic resonance modulator into the pool. This should stimulate the symbionts neural pathways … it may also allow us to communicate with it :: looks to the symbionts vital signs :: We don't have time. Lorana out. =/\=

Lorana turned towards Alyndra as well as the other medical team surrounding them.

Syrex: If we can recreate the caves of Mak’ala the symbiont may begin to relax, we could even create holographic symbionts can interpret the electrical signals using the ship's computer. In effect we would be able to talk to the symbiont without a joining being needed. :: Turns to a member of the medical team :: Where is the nearest holodeck? Can we recreate the caves of Mak’ala in there safely?

As Alyndra cast her line of questioning to the room, a Saurian member of the Excalibur’s medical crew stepped forward.

Vaazqith: The nearest holodecks would be on deck 6, you may use the turbolift to get there. We may have a program for the location you specify.

As Vaazqith finished his sentence, a young vulcanoid woman with distinct trill spots spoke up, pulling herself away from a computer terminal.

Vylax: We do, I programmed it when I learned of my heritage. It should suit your needs sufficiently. I will also add that I am joined, so I can act as the intermediary between Salix and yourselves organically, should you struggle to interpret the electrical signals. If you need me for this, my name is T’anara Vylax.
Syrex: :: Smiles towards Vylax:: Then it looks like we are spoiled for choice, :: snaps neck towards Lorana:: on your word lieutenant.
Lorana: Let's get started.
Syrex: :: Nodding :: Ok, Vylax, please begin your simulation in Holodeck 2, making sure that the specifications for symbiont life are accurate to the real caves of Mak’ala
Vylax: It wouldn’t be logical to spend time recreating an inaccurate simulation.
Syrex: I suppose it wouldn’t, but please check anyhow.

Alyndra turned to Lorana as Vylax left the medical lab. Alyndra could feel the tension mounting in the room as her palms began to sweat slightly. A twinge in her neck signalled the familiar onset of stress, prompting her to use her hand to rub it to ease the discomfort.

Syrex: For transporting the symbiont to the holodeck, we should have you carrying the symbiont and myself checking its vitals along the way. We could use the transporter, but given the symbiont's fragile state, I don’t think that’s a good option, we could accidentally beam it outside of the pool.
Lorana: Response
Syrex: Thank you, lieutenant. The symbiont should be fine being out of its fluid for a few minutes providing we hurry and if the pool is ready on the other side. We should contact Vylax before leaving here, to make sure there aren’t any issues.
Lorana: Response
Syrex: Yes, I should be ready to leave in a few moments, after I check the current state of the symbiont. That should give Vylax a good amount of time to get the holodeck ready for our arrival.
Lorana: Response
