((Cockpit, USS Rhine, Outside the J-0922A System))
In Alyndra’s opinion, she felt it was a little oxymoronic that to gain any sort of leeway with getting information to save lives, the away team aboard the Rhine were now risking theirs. Of course, as the Ferengi say “Opportunity Plus instinct, equals profit”
Rule of acquisition number 22. Alyndra felt that it was suitable in their situation, they had an opportunity, and they were using Starfleet instinct. Hopefully, this would equal a profitable piece of information that would aid in the Ronin’s escapades against
the Lattice Alliance.
Looking around, Alyndra saw each of the officers, who were more senior than herself, were each working on the mission. Alyndra felt like a vegetable, without a medical emergency, there was little she could do better than them. With the silent, yet deafening
noise of the runabout, Alyndra knew for the first time since departing that this was real, far gone were the simulated away missions of the academy.
Alieth: Sencha radiation levels from the wreckage will begin to penetrate our shields in two minutes, we will need a tactical analysis of the surrounding space before we move :: Looking at the front seats of the Rhine:: are there hostile ships around
us? Are we within range of the stations' passive scanners?
Raedai : They haven't gone out to look for their remains yet, so we're alive. But the longer we stay here and the farther the Ronin and Khitomer get...
Lorana: response
The more senior officers got on with their work, Alieth however, turned to Alyndra, who instinctively grabbed her med kit, assuming that the Vulcan was experiencing discomfort from the sencha radiation.
Alieth: Ensign, as long as we are not in a medical emergency, I will need you to double me up with the secondary science console and the scanners. For now, use only the passive ones until we determine that we can work beyond that. Do you have any training
on this?
Syrex: I have a minor degree in helm control, so I’ve had a bit of training on all stations.
Putting her med kit back down, Alyndra moved over to the secondary science station.
Alieth: ::With a glint in her eye :: It will suffice. :: Turning to the other officers.:: Have you determined the route to approach the cloaked areas?
Raedai: In the areas close to where there has been combat, it is relatively easy to hide, for the moment. But to get to the cloaked areas safely, we can only do so if we look like one of the remnants. At the speed at which they move, it would take us
two days to reach the nearest area.
Syrex : :: Turning to Face Raedai:: I’m uncertain I can provide enough doses of inoculant for that long, even if it worked. I might be able to replicate more, but it would take some time.
Lorana: Response
Alieth was obviously listening to what Alyndra and the other officers were saying, he head tilted slightly on one shoulder.
Alieth: Neither seems like a good option, but we knew what we were up against. My main focus is to find out why the secondary area is so protected and what the structure it contains is for, but that high-density cloaking barrier may reveal our position
too soon, or result in a poisoning like the one Miss Lorana and I suffered in Olindra. Which options do you suggest for or against it?
Raedai: their cloaking field should be a problem to detect us, the way it catches almost any signal. :: So it was with the 100-year-old Romulan cloaking systems that Starfleet was well aware of.:: But they came out of it when they detected the Ronin
in... trouble. So, they must have something to help them see out or some particular frequency that transcends from their side like communications. If we find either of those two, we can fool them by sending the signal ourselves of whatever we want them to
see.
Alyndra grinned, the Romulan clearly showed the cunning nature of his people, with the deductive reasoning of their Vulcan cousins. She liked his idea, it could be useful if they were able to utilise the technology properly.
Syrex : That’s incredible, if we could do that, the possibilities are endless. We could modify our signature to be a hunk of debris, or duplicate the Rhines signal, they won’t know where to start, but it would draw unwanted attention to ourselves.
Lorana: Response
Once again, the Vulcan remained silent for a while.
Alieth: We will use that second option, take off carefully, approach vector using the wreckage while we have the chance.
Raedai: Up to these coordinates… :: pointed on a screen visible to all:: We will look like part of what would be the remains of what we might call the starboard nacelle. :: The Tollians had a rather strange way of making nacelles.:: If we only use the
maneuvering thrusters, we should not be detected.
The Romulan began to tap at their console, Alyndra concluded he was calculating how to move the runabout in that direction, without revealing themselves from emitting a wrong energy output.
Lorana: Response
Raedai: it is a possibility, we would extend the radiation that hides us in the direction we want.
Alidar ran a couple of simulations with the data from the probes that were still scattered around, emitting even less energy than the Runaboat.
Upon hearing the word “Radiation” Alyndra spoke up, knowing the effects it could have on the crew. With little back-up out here,
Syrex: Lieutenant, if you’re wrong about the radiation, it could pose a serious risk to the health of this crew, there’s little we can do to combat its effects outside inoculation and steering clear of it.
Lorana/Alieth: response
Raedai: a small, very small impulse could be useful and should not be detected.
Alyndra pondered, It’s a wild day, if they’re planning on running, that would be how to do it. But would something moving at impulse look a bit suspicious to other monitoring methods?
Syrex: It may only appear as a blip on their sensors, but depending on the Lattice Alliance's stubbornness, they may still be keeping a very watchful eye on this region, are we able to risk that kind of manoeuvre?
Alyndra thought at this point she was being too cautious, but this was her first mission, her priority was to the crew of the Rhine. Equally, she didn’t want to die out here, despite knowing the risks when she signed up for Starfleet.
Lorana/Alieth/Raedai: Response
Syrex: Aye, I’ll keep watch on the sensors, I should have enough inoculations for a day comfortably, three if I have some time alone with the replicator.
Lorana/Alieth/Raedai: Response
