((Deck 14, Main Engineering, The Pool Table, USS Ronin))

Morgan: Lieutenant Cabrillo, come join us as we wait to hear from the Chief, who’s in some sort of briefing at the moment.

It had been a bit since Rachel had last seen Cabrillo, but when you’re on opposite shifts, you only end up seeing people in passing during shift change. They’d made a lot of headway on the Spiderbot and gleaned a bunch of useful information on how the things work, and how the Consortium was basically using knockoff Borg tech. And they did a bang-up job with it, she really wanted to explore more and take the damn thing apart screw by screw.

Wren: ::minding her own business:: Hello! oO These two probably know each other pretty well. I really hope that I didn’t already meet this guy, because I’m being extremely rude right now if I did. Oo

Cabrillo: Response

Miller: Lieutenant, I’m Ensign Miller. ::he extended a hand:: But most just call me Chip.

Cabrillo: Response

Wren: ::Just deciding to go for it:: I’m Ensign Wren

Morgan: How was your leave, Cabrillo?

Wren: ::very softly:: It’s okay, hon, I got it.

Rachel was pretty sure she saw something in the Ensign's hair, or it had been that long of a double that she was starting to see things. She mentally shrugged it off.

Cabrillo: Response

Miller: In case anyone is curious, the carbon scrubbers on deck three are not operating at peak efficiency and may cause problems with atmospheric regulators.

Morgan: Well, hey at least we all get a bit of time off..shore leave is always too short. ::turning to Chip:: Well after the Chief gets back, you can go make the adjustments, but I think it can wait five minutes, don’t you ensign?

Chip nodded in agreement.

Wren: ::Poking her head back up:: I’m stunned that we did a mid-warp transport, that could have gone terribly if we weren’t all extremely careful. I can’t imagine what would be that urgent. Do either of you know who came aboard?

Morgan: Honestly, I don’t, above my pay grade. I’m sure whatever is going on, Chief Tucker will download us all on what the briefing was all about.

Rachel was curious about that as well, which must be pretty important stuff if they were pulling off mid-warp transports. You don’t know that for your run-of-the-mill transfers.

Miller: It was pretty cool, the transport that is. Neat stuff.

Rachel could see Chip's eyes light up talking about the transport. The things that held his rapt attention never ceased to amaze her. He was a good kid, a bit strange, yes. But a good kid nonetheless.

Morgan: ::folding her arms across her chest:: Must be something important.

Cabrillo: Response

Wren: Do we know who the other specialist is?

That was the big question right there: who were the two they brought aboard? Though Rachel was pretty sure that they’d get filled in quickly enough. Rachel’s combadage chirped. Muscle memory had her instantly tap her badge in response.

Morgan: Go for Morgan.

It was the chief on the other end.

Tucker: =/\= Could you round up the gang? We’ve got something to keep us busy. I’ll explain in a couple of minutes. Tucker out.=/\=

Rachel breathed a sigh of relief, knowing that the Commander was on his way and that they’d get the skinny on what was going on.

Chip rubbed his hands together.

Miller: ::to no on in particular::Did you know, I like puzzles?

Rachel had to double-take, as she’d heard what Chip had said. She really tried to understand the young Ensign, but she was having slight difficulty; he was whip-smart.

Wren/Cabrillo: Response

((A few moments later, Main Engineering, The Pool Table, USS Ronin))

Marty tugged at the bottom of his tunic before stepping through the doors of Main Engineering. He clasped his hands behind his back, a padd in his right hand. Which he was nervously fiddling with. He looked to see Ensign Wren, Lieutenants Cabrillo and Moran, and Chip? He wasn’t expecting the young ensign to be part of the group. Marty mentally shrugged and moved to address the assembled officers.

Tucker: Good morning or evening, depending on what shift you were pulled from. First off, does anyone have a working knowledge of bio-mechanics?

Morgan: Not I, Chief.

Chip just shrugged.

Wren/Cabrillo: Response

Marty brought his padd forward and set it on the pool table and transferred his notes to the pool table so they could all look at the image, if you can call it that.

Tucker: This is what some people believe is a space-born entity. So far any attempts to scan it, had turned out like this picture before you. We’re to figure out a way to scan it, which I think we can do with that long-range package we put in for stellar cartography last time we were in port. Just before we left for shore leave, I believe.

Tucker looked at Morgan and raised an eyebrow.

Morgan: Yes, it’s aboard, but installed, that’s another thing altogether chief.

Wren/Cabrillo: Response

Marty turned to Chip.

Tucker: Mister Miller, I need you to start level four diagnostics on the tractor beam and deflector dish.

Chip nodded and headed to another engineering workstation. Lassoing the damn thing was going to be a last resort. At least he hopes those who made those decisions listen to their better angels. Because if it’s a space-born entity and it’s sentient? That’s a whole other bottle of worms. But at the end of the day, he was an engineer, and when they gave him a puzzle, he liked to solve the damn thing.

Morgan: So, when we manage to scan this thing, then what?

Wren/Cabrillo: Response

Tucker: Good question. The quick answer is, I’m not sure.

Wren/Cabrillo: Response

Marty held up his hands in mock surrender.

Tucker: They’re all valid questions, but I don’t have a lot of answers yet. I’ll admit, I’m not much for bio-mechanics, I’d like to learn more. But there are never enough hours in the day, and I think we can all attest to that.

Morgan: Preaching to the choir chief.

Wren/Cabrillo: Response
