((Medical Lab 1 - Sickbay Complex - Deck 7 - USS Excalibur-A))
Syrex: :: Nodding :: Ok, Vylax, please begin your simulation in Holodeck 2, making sure that the specifications for symbiont life are accurate to the real caves of Mak’ala
Vylax: It wouldn’t be logical to spend time recreating an inaccurate simulation.
Syrex: I suppose it wouldn’t, but please check anyhow.
Lorana: :: sternly :: Officers.
Lorana’s voice stretched out, grabbing the ears of every person in the medical lab firmly, turning everyone’s heads towards her. Alyndra thought as Lorana’s clear voice entered her that she may have overstepped. On the Ronin, Dr Beck allowed her a certain amount
of autonomy, but this wasn’t the Ronin and Lieutenant Lorana wasn’t Doctor Beck.
Lorana: We will not be moving this symbiont. The medical lab has all the equipment we need. The priority is to stabilise the symbiont and keep it alive. Communicating with the symbiont is a secondary objective. Given that they've already been moved,
in a very dramatic and traumatising fashion we will not be moving it once again.
Alyndra couldn’t help but agree with the lieutenant. Her bedside manner from working in San Fransisco had taught her many things and it was true that communication with the symbiont was a secondary objective, but that’s not how Alyndra saw the situation.
She saw a patient, in pain and was unable to talk with them. That was a whole other level of torture for the symbiont. The holo-pool, in theory, would allow the team to stabilise the symbiont in a familiar environment, a perk would have been easing it through
communication with the Vylax symbiont. In a way, Lorana’s approach felt very clinical, like trying to keep an engine going against its will, but it would certainly be effective. Alyndra was a doctor, but Lorana was her senior officer.
After a moment, Lorana turned to Alyndra, her diaphragm began to shudder. She had always been a little uneasy around Caitian’s, but her previous actions made Alyndra very anxious to see what Lorana was going to say to her.
Lorana: It was a great idea. Yet, we have everything we need here in the medical lab to perform the tasks at hand. Let's focus on the symbiont. Ensign, can you ensure the composition of the pool is consistent with the substance we found on the station…
it's likely the symbiont will adjust better in that solution and we will gradually change the viscosity over time.
oO I’m glad she’s so constructive, maybe she’s not as scary as she looks? Oo
Alyndra was glad to know that her idea was given some credit, she felt a rush of warmth in her face, she recognised that feeling as pride, even if the idea wasn’t used.
Syrex: Yes, Lieutenant
Alyndra moved with a swift step towards the pool which held the symbiont. When she arrived, she began to run tests using her medical tricorder.
Lorana: I'll be setting up the energetic resonance modulator to the computer systems. It's a long shot but if we can alter the resonance to match what the alliance had done … it may mean we can communicate with the symbiont.
Lt Lorana moved deftly over to the computer's interface terminal, which the Excelsior's CMO was kind enough to grant the Ronin’s team access to.
Syrex: Ok, I think that’s as close as I can get to the Lattice Alliance’s structure ::Pauses:: Goop, which held the symbiont, at least in terms of composition. I believe I can make it more viscous
oO Not very scientific, but hey, someone’s got to name it Oo
Lorana: :: with confidence :: Let's get started.
Alyndra looked up, this time making sure that approval was given. Luxa looked back at her, nodding. Alyndra smiled and commenced with her work.
Syrex: Yes, Lieutenant. The viscosity of the fluid is rising by 0.5% a minute, which should be slow enough to not overwhelm the symbiont. We can stop and adjust the fluid when the symbiont gives an optimum response.
Lorana: Good job Ensign. Nurse Vaazqith please insert the ERM device I've synced the computer systems with the device.
The Saurian lowered the small, glowing capsule into the pool steadily.
Lorana: Ensign Syrex adjust the temperature by 0.6 degrees. Vaazqith can you please increase the modulation by 3 points.
Syrex: On it.
Alyndra manipulated the control panel, adjusting the fluid parameters as requested.
Lorana: How's the symbiont doing Ensign?
Syrex: Neuronal impulses within the symbiont have increased by 13%, and impulses into the pool have decreased by 40%. ::Turns to Lorana:: If I had to guess, I would say that the symbiont was giving a sigh of relief. If it continues like this, we’ll have
a healthy symbiont within hours.
Lorana: Response
Syrex: When that happens, we may be able to still communicate with the symbiont. We’d be able to get the shield frequency and parameters that can act as a defence towards sencha radiation.
Lorana: Response
Syrex: I would recommend using Vylax as an intermediary for that, they’ll understand instantly what the symbiont is saying, but we may need to use the computer to send a reply. :: Pauses, giving a slight scowl:: That could take a little longer to develop,
but we know it’s possible as the Lattice alliance clearly have the technology onboard the structure.
Lorana: Response
