((Ops, Deck One, Central Module, Deep Space Thirty Three))

The Ops center was a symphony of systems and people working together harmoniously and, for once, Commander Agatha Stergis was their unfettered conductor.  Ambassador Buford had returned to the Sol system where he believed putting in 'face time' would benefit him the next time a more prestigious Ambassadorial position became available.  Agatha genuinely wished him luck while offering a solemn, silent prayer for whatever region of space had to deal with the Ambassador's 'profound insights' in the future.  She rounded the room, receiving reports and offering direction in equal measure, coordinating the stations defensive preparations with a thoroughness and exactitude that would make a Vulcan blush.  She was in her element and was able to do her duties without distraction.

Right until Commander Ash MacKenna, formerly of the Arrow, currently of the Khitomer and one time banned from DS33 by Agatha herself stepped into the ops center. The woman took a single step out of the turbolift which she seemed to immediately reconsider and Agatha forced herself not to smile.

Stergis: I took you off the banned list a while ago, Commander MacKenna.  I'm pretty sure the Ops defense systems won't shoot you.

Agatha shrugged and turned to continue her rounds but another set of footfalls caught her attention first.

Raga: Commanders.

MacKenna: I...I'd like to link into Blacknet if I could. Is there a console I could borrow?

Raga: I would also request a secondary link to the command center out on the promenade. My people are setting up an FOP there so we can organize a central defense within short distance to key areas and the ones most likely to have intruders should it come to it.

Agatha glanced towards two open stations around the circular holotable that ops was built around.

Stergis:  You can link in there, Commanders.  ::She gestured towards the panoramic viewscreen which dominated one wall up to the peak of the arched ceiling.::  We're also getting a real time tactical updates from Major Singh's defense screen.  You'll have a front row seat to our sensor readings as they come in.

MacKenna: Response

Raga: The docking ports are the easiest egresses to the station as long as the shields hold, so I plan to reinforce those areas and focus most of our defense there while keeping enough smaller teams on hand that can remain mobile and react to any threats as needed. Especially critical areas. But we’ll go wherever you need us most.

Agatha had been fully briefed on the joint operation and had been working with each ships liaison officer for nearly two days straight.  Her experiences with the newly promoted Commander Raga, the Ronin's first officer, had been roundly positive.  She liked the mans no nonsense attitude and had found working with him efficient and effective.

Commander MacKenna on the other hand had moved up a notch since their frosty first meeting.  After their experience defending the station during a failed diplomatic summit last year, Agatha had even come to respect the woman's abilities and instincts in a crisis.  None of which meant she liked her.  Falling back on her professionalism and the patience one needed to work with Ambassador Buford, Agatha approached the command table and set down a padd.

Stergis:  Your preparations look good, Commander Raga, for what it's worth...I'm still not convinced the Alliance would bother with a boarding action.  My people are focusing on evacuating what civilians we can while others have decided to stay and shelter in place.  ::She shifted her attention and crossed her arms::  Commander MacKenna, explain to me again why you don't think the Alliance will just blow us out of space?

MacKenna: Response?

A look passed between the two officers and Agatha realized that somehow the two hadn't actually been introduced.

Raga: Very well, we’ll handle the defenses while you handle the evacuation. My crew has unfortunately had to repel boarders a lot recently so they’ll be up to the task of holding our ground as long as needs be. ::To both women:: We’ve got your backs, so do what you need to do.

Stergis:  I appreciate that, Commander.  Commanders.  I'm just not confident about this stations ability to withstand a full blown assault.  If your ships aren't careful out there they could draw more trouble on us then we can handle.

Raga/MacKenna: Response?

Agatha leaned against the console and tried not to let her eye twitch as she explained their predicament.

Stergis:  The Ambassador felt that defensive systems of any kind aboard this station would be a barrier to his mission.  He wanted to prove that we could all just sit down and talk it out and that phasers and shields simply got in way.  So he has fought tooth and nail to keep this stations defensive systems to an absolute minimum.  Our shields are standard for a station this size but we've got minimal phaser coverage and less than a hundred torpedoes...total.  If the Alliance shows up here in force....

Agatha shook her head.  She knew that her people, presented with that worst case scenario, would fight bravely.  She also knew with a dreadful certainty that they'd die bravely as well.

Raga/MacKenna: Response?
