((Bridge, Deck 3, USS Ronin))

The bridge was quiet for the moment.  Kel had headed out earlier leaving him nominally in charge.  He had expected Commander Tucker to arrive, but in fact he had not.  So for the moment Vomek was occupying the big chair while Madalain was at the helm station while Chip was monitoring ops.  Other crewmen were scattered about the room at various stations.  He walked up to stand next to the helm station watching the image of the damaged dome leak gas and purple energy from the moon below.

An alarm chirped and Vomek moved back to the command chair to consult his arm display.

Vomek:  Engineering is bringing the deflector online.  Maybe they're trying to clear out all this particle radiation.

Vomek watched the power transfer, when suddenly a voice burst from the comms channel.

Singh: =/\= Singh to the Bridge, I need to speak to Commander Kel or Commander Tucker.  =/\=

Startled though he was, Vomek stood up, adjusted his shirt and clasped his hands behind his back.

Vomek:  =/\= This is Lieutenant Vomek.  Commanders Kel and Tucker are not here right now.  May I relay a message?  =/\=

There was a hesitation

Singh:  =/\= Lieutenant...are you...are you telling me the entire command team has left the bridge while the ship is at alert?  Where in the Koala's name have they gone?  Who is in command? =/\=

Vomek scratched his head.  He did not want to get Kel into trouble.

Vomek:  =/\= I'm in charge of things up here for the moment. I believe Lt. Morgan is handling things in Engineering.  =/\=

There was another pause.

Singh:  =/\= Lieutenant...I have ordered a general recall of all our small craft....spatial conditions outside the ship are simply too dangerous for us to mount an effective search operation.  We were in the process of recovering the wreckage of the Shinano when two more of my fighters and the S&R runabout vanished from sensors.  I am told the ship is preparing to release an energy pulse which should counteract this effect...do you know when?  Should I advise my people to take any special precautions? =/\=

Vomek:  =/\= You should check with Engineering. =/\=

Singh: =/\= Lieutenant.=/\=

The toe clearly suggested that the Major was annoyed. It was a real skill Kel seemed to have to annoy Majors.  Major Greaves had never been a fan either.  Vomek gulped nervously.

Singh: =/\=...listen very carefully.  If the Commanders Kel and Tucker are out there...and haven't tumbled headlong into one of these anomalies...they're in enormous danger.  Runabouts do not offer sufficient protection from whatever has been done to this system.  You have to get them back to the ship immediately.  Or I'm going to get them.=/\=

Vomek:  =/\= On it Sir.  Ma'am.  Major!.  I'll find them. =/\=

Vomek closed the channel and hurried to open a new one.  As he did a new alarm sounded.  Once again Vomek glanced at the readout and sighed.  The channel opened.

Kel: =/\= Go. =/\=

Vomek: =/\= Sir, Major Singh is ::beat::  upset. She wants you and Commander Tucker back on the ship or she'll come bring you back herself.   =/\=

Vomek hesitated and winced as he relayed the news from the probe further out in the system.

Vomek: =/\= Oh, and sir, there's also an unknown vessel entering the system.  =/\=

Kel:  =/\= I think you buried the lead lieutenant.  Stand by I'll be back shortly. =/\=

The channel closed and Vomek stood up.  He wanted to get things ready before the acting captain returned.  Vomek could not say that he and Kel were pals, but he hand taught him a lot and helped him spread his wings on the Oumuamua.  He didn't want to let him down.
