((Shuttlecraft Sojourn , En-route to rondevou with Shuttlecraft Anna Pavlova, Somewhere between Proxima and Alpha Sigma Systems))
((T-minus 50 Hours, 30 minutes to Impact))
Alyndra’s fingers danced across the console, the glow of the analysis scan reflecting in her blue and pink eyes.
Syrex: Analysis complete. There were very faint traces of Mizarian DNA amongst the terminal’s wreckage. Were there any Mizarian’s onboard the train? Could there be a connection?
Raga: =/\= We can definitely check. The Ronin and by extension our shuttles should have access to the same manifest. =/\= ::a quick computer search later and he nodded:: =/\= Found it, there was in fact one Mizarian in the passenger manifest. We know Emzai has at least one conspirator. We should assume there will be more on the train. I imagine she’s planned ahead for us and might have some muscle to help keep us busy. She could even have people hidden among the passengers for all we know. =/\=
O’Connor: No way of knowing neutral from foe, great.
T’Fearne: Sir, I recommend we stun them. Throw in some non-lethal grenades ahead of us, restrain everyone and sort it out later.
Syrex: Response
Singh: =/\= Response =/\=
Raga: =/\= It looks like there are four possible access points on the train we could use. One is in a car marked for large organics of some kind, the others are forward and closer to the engine room. And one near the aft. Uh, the caboose. Ian, you and the Major are the ones who’ll have to dock at least one of the shuttles. The call of which one to use is up to you. If needs be, everyone going on board could transfer to a single shuttle. =/\=
A set of schematics of the train glowed dimly, detailing access points and other scan details of the Soliton Express. T’Fearne noted that they seemed to show layered corridors and sunken service walkways below the main corridors through the train.
O’Connor: =/\= I think we can dock both shuttles. It will be trickiest on the two forward ones but we could come in from opposite sides. It’s similar to some of the Defense maneuvers we’d already been talking about for Ronin. We could then board and not be too far away from each other. =/\=
T’Fearne: What about this. :: Marking the maintenance walkway on the schematic :: Here, this lower maintenance conduit runs the length of the train beneath the passenger corridor. We could bypass most of the passengers, move undetected by the hostiles. It looks like we’d have to come up at a few points. Faster, cleaner entry.
Syrex: Response
Singh: =/\= Response =/\=
Raga: =/\= Good. Then we’ll enter there. As for who goes on board, either Major Singh, or Ian should stay out here to make sure we have an escape ready. The Major is trained for boarding actions like this, but I’ll understand if you want to come along and help Tuck’s team Ian. Once we’re on board we should locate and reconvene with Chief Tucker. And since I agree with the Snowball’s assessment, once on board I’m going after Emzai. Ensign T’Fearne, as the only Security officer available you’ll accompany me. ::he breathed in slowly:: With luck we can at least slow her down while the rest of you work on stalling whatever she’s doing. =/\=
O’Connor: It’s your call, obviously but I think I the doc and I could be of use to Tuck and his group. Besides we have the Sojourn already remote linked so it would be ready to go as soon as we cleared the airlock anyway, so no need to wait on board.
T’Fearne gave a measured nod, already building a mental profile of Emzai from what fragmented intelligence she had been given. She rotated it, analysing different angles, trying to predict the woman's next moves. Her eyes stayed fixed on the slowly rotating schematic of the Soliton Express.
T’Fearne: :: murmured, barely above a breath :: How do you catch a spider?
Then, louder, more direct.
T’Fearne: Do we have any guesses or insight into her motives, or failing that, what her behaviour so far suggests she’ll do next?
Raga/Singh =/\= Response =/\=
Syrex: Response
O’Connor: Quick thought, and maybe it’s already been tried but is there a way we could sleeping gas the whole train through the ventilation system? Then we get on board and the doc revives our people, no one gets shot, we collect the unconscious bad guys and then just figure out how to stop the train.
oO You gas the Spider? Oo
T’Fearne: Gas would be more efficient than stun grenades. Something like Anesthizine? Could we do that? Synthesise canisters of something here and deploy them to each carriage as we go?
Her gaze flicked up to meet Alyndra's, the officer with the most medical and chemical knowledge.
Raga/Singh =/\= Response =/\=
Syrex: Response
O’Connor: Yeah, didn’t think it could be that easy. Man, and I just promised Kristy no more cowboy $4!+, but I guess “Yippee Ki Yay” it is.
A sharp, nervous chitter echoed from the cargo area at the rear of the shuttle. She had almost forgotten the Saurian passenger.
T’Fearne: Ah…we also picked up a civilian engineer from the Terminal at the last minute. He has a device that he claims to be some sort of spare emergency brake for Soliton Engines. Perhaps we could use the transporter to send him to the Ronin with the device for the Engineering or Science departments to study?
Raga/Singh =/\= Response =/\=
O’Connor/Syrex: Response
T’Fearne: I’m paraphrasing, but he said something about the device generating a null field that would allow the train to slip out of the Soliton wave—some sort of localised damping effect.
She winced internally. The explanation sounded clumsy even to her.
Raga/Singh =/\= Response =/\=
O’Connor/Syrex: Response
T’Fearne: I don’t think it’s active right now, it’s just strapped onto the cargo area, not hooked up to any power supply.
Raga/Singh =/\= Response =/\=
O’Connor/Syrex: Response
T’Fearne unclipped carefully from her seat, slight turbulence and the lack of shields making their ride less than smooth. Her gaze caught on the schematics, the pulsing countdown in the corner of the console had updated to match the increase in the locomotive's speed.
They now had fifty hours and change until impact—and they were heading straight into danger.
