Bags were packed, outfits were replicated, plans were made; Evinrude was fully armed for some beach time. It was, at this point, a necessity. Last shore leave, as eventful as it was, didn't earn the junior lieutenant much rest, and the last two missions...well, they took a lot out of everyone. When the comm call came in from Commander Raga, he was lucky he hadn't yet changed into his swim trunks and guayabera.

So here he stood in the XO's office, impeccably uniformed, at a marine-like attention that would have made his mother proud. Lt. Commanders O'Connor and Tucker stood beside him, but the senior officers were well-established members of the Ronin crew.

oO Their positions are secure...is mine? Oo

He managed to keep his expression purely neutral, but his inner thoughts were ajumble. He'd submitted report after report following events on the free trader Audit Trap, and he had even put in some time assisting with cleanup over on the Compass Rose, motivated by late-night wandering thoughts that his experiences with the plague were somehow...lacking. He owed more to his friends, hurt and traumatized by the bioweapon, and to his fellow officers on the Rose.

Since then, he'd heard very little about the efforts to reverse-engineer the Consortium weapon that had caused all this. It was above his proverbial pay grade.

Raga: Response

O'Connor/Tucker: Response

Tess took a small, rigid step forward.

Evinrude: Yes sir, I can confirm--

A chime sounded at the XO's door.

Raga: Response

And in walked Fleet Captain Niac. Evinrude stepped aside with a crisp - if perhaps a bit panicked - return to attention.

Niac: Response
