to USS Ronin

((Runabout Zambezi, Main Shuttlebay, USS Ronin))

Delphina felt tired. It had already been such a long day, and they weren't even halfway done yet if O’Connor’s call to action was anything to go by. Not that she really minded, that was something she'd been told to expect at the academy, but all the same, she couldn't hold back a yawn as she stood in the turbo lift, shifting from foot to foot as she tried to shake off some of the exhaustion that was creeping in. oO I'm glad to hear that the captain and first officer might still be alive, though I can't imagine the nightmares the rest of the crew will probably have….unless this is a normal thing? Does this crew regularly see their members die? Note to self, ask the computer later… Oo

She stepped out of the turbo lift, hurrying over to where O'Connor was standing with the rest of the team. Hopefully this outing would have less shoving people around. The fact that she'd shoved her fellow ensign into a hole on her first outing from the ship still made her feel like she had an itch somewhere deep inside.

O’Connor: Ok, we are focusing on search, rescue and recovery. Commander Tucker’s team will be trying to figure out what ::air quotes:: “went wrong” here. They’re putting down near this research building first before possibly heading to the broken dome. We’ll land over here:: points:: at the community building. Hopefully once we are on the ground we’ll be able to get better readings of lifesigns, radiation levels, etc. We’ll set up a small triage area and a transport zone with the pattern enhancers so we can hopefully ship any seriously wounded directly back to Ronin. Once we’re set we can start our search. Thoughts?

Shortrith: Sounds like a plan. I'll keep sickbay in the loop.

T’Fearne: We don’t know who we’re going to encounter—or in what condition they will be in. Your safety comes first. Keep your phasers on stun. Lethal force only if a life is in immediate danger. You can’t help anyone if you’re down. Stay alert. Monitor radiation levels. Remember your Academy trainin

Wren: oO if the two we picked up are any indication, things might be worse than we think. Oo I've mapped a few different coordinates that would work best for the pattern enhancers. It might be a good idea to set up two transport zones, the radiation might negatively affect the scanners, and a backup would be helpful.

O’Connor: ::nods:: Agreed. I think these buildings might be housing. Probably be a good starting point.

Shortrith: We'll be able to use those as the triage shelters.

T’Fearne: I would prefer we establish a security perimeter first, with medical set-up second ::slight shrug:: or at the same time.

O’Connor: Sounds good. We can adjust if we need to once we’re down there. Also on the way down, brush up on Sencha radiation if you’re not already familiar with it. Strap In.

oO Should probably prep for a headache or two. Oo Delphina thought to herself as she settled into her seat. They hadn't learned much about Sencha radiation in the academy, but what she'd heard hadn't sounded especially pleasant, and if that had been what they'd experienced earlier, she was fairly sure she'd spend the next few days after the mission curled up on the floor of her room in the dark. Nearby, she felt a flash of anxiety, and she didn't have to look to know it had probably come from T’Fearne. Instinctively, she pulled herself back, but not quickly enough. A memory of pain and fear burned brightly for a moment, before Delphina quickly shut it down.

T’Fearne: ::very controlled:: Very well. Doctor, we’ll need to take inoculants before we land. Standard Sencha radiation exposure kits and carry boosters at all times. The formula should be in the medical database under Sencha Radiation. Could you replicate ampules for the team and a supply for those we encounter who may already be exposed while we are en route?

Wren: I can enter it into the replicator, give me a moment.

((A few minutes later, Runabout Zambezi, Ross-580 Gas Giant A, the “Good Dome” on Moon Sigma))

As they landed, Delphina carefully slipped into her EV suit, wincing a bit as she felt the texture of the interior. Better than dealing with potentially deadly radiation, of course, but it still set her teeth on edge. Shortrith held out a medical Tricorder, and Wren quickly flipped it open to make sure it was working, before following the doctor out of the shuttle. It was strange. If it hadn't been for the plumes of smoke, she never would have guessed that they were currently in a dangerous hotspot. It just looked like a normal planet, just eerily empty.

Shortrith: We should get a reading shortly.

Wren: oO I don't see anyone right off the bat. I wonder if anyone knows we're here yet. Oo

O'Connor waved to Shortrith, and Delphina watched them step away for a moment, before continuing to scan the area. As she did so, she tried to reach out telepathically to see if she could sense anyone, but almost immediately her senses seemed to hit a wall, likely from the radiation, which seemed to be collecting in pockets, almost as though it was pooling. As she ran the Tricorder towards the dome, she frowned as the numbers sputtered, spiking and falling almost randomly. She tried to change her angle a few times, and was just considering popping the back off to take a look at the tricorder’s wiring, when she looked up to see T’Fearne standing above her, holding something out.

T’Fearne: Here. Extra Sencha radiation inoculation boosters. You probably reviewed the hazard profile for S-wave exposure—you’ll likely need more than the rest of us.

Wren: Oh, thank you, that hadn't even occurred to me…. ::projecting her thoughts:: ~Are you alright? You seemed a little….off on the shuttle.~

T’Fearne: ::projecting her thoughts clearly:: ~ you saw that? ~ ::switching back to words:: It was worse. Sencha radiation is bad for most species, but it has an especially debilitating effect on telepaths—Betazoids in particular. Vulcans are also affected to a lesser extent. Have you been having headaches since we arrived in the system?

Wren: ::taking a second to parse the response, before switching back to words:: I have, yeah… until recently I thought it was just me, I get headaches a lot.

T’Fearne: ::nodding:: You should be fine for a while with the dose Doctor Shortrith gave you on the shuttle, but if the levels spike or we hit a fresh wave…you’ll want to use this immediately.

Wren: Understood. Thank you…. ::kindly:: I hope neither one of us has to use it

O’Connor: Ok guys, what do our scans show? Can we pinpoint any life readings?

Shortrith: I can find some from over ::points to the north-west of where they're standing:: that way. There's nothing specific.

T’Fearne: This dome appears to be where most of the personnel evacuated from the damaged one. We still don’t know if anyone survived over there or requires aid. Wren, what is your range? Can you pick up anything from this dome or the damaged one?

Wren: ::smacking her Tricorder a bit:: I'm picking up life readings from this dome, but I think the radiation might be affecting our equipment. I can't get anything solid, and the readings I am getting aren't sticking around long enough for me to notate them.

O’Connor: Well if that’s the best info we’ve got…we go with it. Let’s head out

Delphina followed as the group began moving, flipping her Tricorder over and pulling the back off. oO No corrosion on the inside yet, that's good. The scans are still going in and out, though… oo ::slips the back back on::

Shortrith: Commander, I'm noticing a concerning wave of… something… coming from the south-east.

T’Fearne: That's also the direction of the damaged dome.

Wren: I'm getting something to, but nothing consistent.

T’Fearne: Looks like radiation is flaring erratically from it.
O'Connor: Response
Shortrith: That's what I mean, it's only showing up in some spaces.
T’Fearne: That suggests spatial instability…or some sort of temporal shear. Recommend proceeding with extreme caution.
O'Connor/Shortrith: Response
Wren: oO Temporal stuff again… you know, it's funny, at the academy they said we might encounter Temporal events occasionally. Oo
T’Fearne: That’s…looks a lot worse than the scans suggested. Any lifesigns registering in there?
O'Connor/Shortrith: Response
Wren: ::frowning:: That doesn't sound good…I'll pull up a blueprint, and I'm highlighting where the most life signs seem to be congregated
T’Fearne studied the structure, then stepped closer to Wren’s console as the petite engineer brought up the facility schematics.
T’Fearne: That plume looks like it’s venting from something at the centre of the dome. Can you tell if the structure is even sound anymore?
Wren: oO I wish I had those Wasps I'm working on ready… they'd be helpful here Oo it's impossible to tell, all the vented radiation is scrambling the results. The only way to know for sure would be to get closer.
O'Connor/Shortrith/T’Fearne: Response
Wren: The life signs seem close to that central structure, which is lucky, it should make moving them to triage easier.
O'Connor/Shortrith/T’Fearne: Response
Wren: oO Okay. Hopefully it's nowhere near as bad as last time, but I keep an eye on T’Fearne too… she's Vulcan and Betazoid, she might get it worse than me… Oo I'm ready to go.
O'Connor/Shortrith/T’Fearne: Response
