((Jefferies Tube 73-1-Alpha, Beta Module, Deep Space 33))
Crawling into the Jeffries’ Tubes wasn’t the most glamorous part of any job, unless she supposed you were an Engineer or the Captain. From a security standpoint they were equal parts the easiest and hardest parts of a ship or station to secure and defend. Their tight quarters limited options for maneuverability and could be easily surrounded in most cases, which was both a pro and a con.
Jenta finally stopped crawling and pulled the large bag from behind her so she could unzip it and get to the devices she needed to plant. Meanwhile she heard Kiran behind her treating the tube as his own Sydney Opera house.
Kiran::: looking up the tube:: The acoustics in these things are fantastic; you can hear everything. On the Potemkin, I’d find a Jefferies tube and play guitar. At least, that’s what I was telling myself.
The Orion nodded in agreement as she setup the sensor pod and transporter dampener in a nook of the various pipes and conduits that ran through this section. A wry smirk curled her lips at his comment.
Solana: As the Captain’s recent acoustics test on board the Ronin confirms. ::She grinned:: So how did your own acoustics test on the Potemkin go?
She struggled a bit to get the dampener to fit into the spot designated to place it and ended up clanging around a bit until she got it in place. She had appreciated Kiran’s offer to help with this but
Kiran: According to the COB, I was stringing up a Ferengi by the lobes. So I put that practice to bed, and now I play music while working…
She nodded to herself from up ahead of him. She knew a fair number of the crew used music as a means to focus their minds on whatever task they were working on and the music varied. Some were purely instrumental, others the singer screamed through most of it. She hadn’t tried it mostly because in her line of work being able to hear was a necessity.
Solana: Nice. A few of the crew do tha, but I don’t think I could ever do that while on duty. Need to be able to hear any threats, problems or possible security breaches.
Kiran: I just hate this holding pattern we’re in. The Ronin is playing wounded, then punching them in the nose and falling back to here. It’s all a waiting game.
As the devices powered on she zipped up the bag and looked back at him.
Solana: I agree. Though don’t underestimate the effectiveness of using one’s impression of your weakness against them. It’s one of the reasons I survived on Rigel VIII long enough to be rescued by Starfleet. ::She made sure her own Type 33 CQC rifle was secured and looked at him:: Where to next?
Kiran: Says we need to head to Junction 34 Beta; it has an airlock and a Jefferies tube. Let's make sure what you've installed is working.
She watched him scan her work patiently and gave him room to do so by scooting down the tube a little.
Solana: Doubting my work, Chief? ::She gave him a dangerously demure smile::
Kiran: Response
Solana: We can’t sit around all day, there’s a lot of tubes to cover. Even only focusing on those with quick access to sensitive areas of the station. If the other teams are keeping the same pace we should have all the sensors and transporter blockers in place long before any red alert.
Kiran: Response
Solana: Figured you liked the view from back there, so I didn’t want to disappoint.
Jenta winked at the Bajoran before she moved on further down the tube to the next junction they would have to take.
Kiran: Response
