Shortrith: Hey! I'm sorry, I didn't see you.

Wren: Hello, doctor! I’m a little early, I hope you don’t mind?

There was the underlying thing that they knew they had to talk to her about, especially with them being friends.

Shortrith: There's… There's something I need to clear up with you first before I start.

They tried to avoid the hesitance in the voice but they knew Delphina could probably sense it, being a Betazoid.

Wren: ::hoping she’s right:: Are you….concerned about being my therapist because of our friendship?

oO Damn. Oo

Shortrith: Okay, you caught me. ::pauses, takes a deep breath:: So… ::rambling:: as you're my friend and you're coming to see me for a counselling session, I'm gonna be blunt. It's general protocol that I'm sworn to confidentiality unless something puts someone or the ship directly at risk, where I have to tell the Captain. And… If there ends up being a conflict of interest between what I want to do as a friend and as a counsellor… it depends on the context, but if we're off duty, I'll help as a friend would, and if we're on duty, I'll treat it like a counsellor would. Please know that I have no intention of this harming our friendship, but there are rules I have to follow for my job.

At the end, they immediately shut the hell up. They chose to give a silent mental apology to Delphina.

Shortrith: ~~I'm sorry for the rambling. I just wanted to be upfront and tell you before we started.~~

Wren: Thank you for telling me. But I do trust you to be professional. My mother Lillian used to say that when Mordren or I were hurt she wasn’t our mother until we left the clinic. I know you’ll try and help me the best you can.

oO I'm glad that's out of the way. Oo

Shortrith: To start, I wanna ask you - how are you doing?

Wren: ::honestly:: I’m not doing well, Shortrith. I’m trying to be okay, and some days are better than others, but overall I feel stuck in place.

Renaie almost immediately wanted to pull Delphina into a really tight hug, but at the same time they knew they had to remain professional.

Shortrith: What's going on? I'm willing to listen, if you're willing to share.

Renaie noticed tears in the engineer's eyes, and they stayed silent to let her speak.

Wren: I… I killed someone. A Tholian, during their invasion of the Narhelion. I… I tried to use one of my gravity rings to get it off the ground, but it went wrong. He was crushed.

oO Oh ::bleep::. Oo

Her guilt was evident in the hollowness of her voice, and Renaie could only imagine the chaos of emotions she was feeling at the time. There could have been fear for her own life, fear for her crew, maybe even fear for what she'd done…

Shortrith: Well… you tried to lift the Tholian up, right? It was an accident that the rings ended up crushing it.

Wren: It doesn’t feel that way. I shouldn’t have even designed the gravity rings to be able to do that. I didn’t even think about it. I was irresponsible.

Shortrith: Well… Unfortunately, what's done is done. We can't go back in time, we'd violate the temporal prime directive, and we'll have the Department of Temporal Investigations on our tail. I know that's probably not what you want to hear, but does it provide any help with that knowledge?

Renaie paused, watching their friend for her reaction.

Wren: Response

They sighed softly.

Shortrith: I know, I'm sorry. Have you tried anything to possibly distract you? Take your mind off spiralling?

Wren: Response

Shortrith: Could I recommend something? Like practicing an instrument, reading a novel, or maybe working on your bots? It may take your mind off it and help you process your feelings.

Distractions were always good, especially in rough situations.

Wren: Response
