((The Reef, Tier 5-5-6, Corridor Unknown))
Kessler: ::still making contact with the creature and not looking away:: It's ok Ensign. You've done a good job but there's nothing to worry about. ::beat:: we're going to be fine.
There was indeed something to worry about. There was always something to worry about - and now it was this seemingly child-Caretaker - if it really was one.
Evinrude: Sir. ::A beat.:: Lieutenant Kessler?
When Lieutenant Kessler didn't respond, the knot in Xilva's stomach grew tighter. It was another roadblock, one that was simply caused by the fact that she wasn't fast enough. Linguistics wasn't her best field, and yet there she was, with people depending on her.
oO If someone dies, it is your fault. Remember that. Oo
Evinrude: Ensign...we may need to just take your best guess here and try to open those doors. We can study and analyze later, and...well, perhaps we just weren't prepared for first contact with something like this.
Venn: I aaa…agree. You…You are th-the expert. Use what … you know and … and mmmake a best guess.
Expert? She was no expert, she was a poorly-functioning ensign stuck with a language that was frustrating her to the point of pain. Still, she shuffled her way to the console and hit the button that she swore could open the door.
Marsek: ::quiet:: ...It's a sequence, sirs. And...And I don't know the rest of it. I'm sorry.
Deacon: Response
As she fretted, she watched Kessler and the strange being seemingly embrace - was that the best option? She hit the console again, frustrated. Why wasn't it working?
Kessler: ::in a softened tone:: Time to leave guys. Let's go.
Evinrude: ::To the others.:: He's clearly made contact, if not telepathically then...empathically.
Venn: Y-Yes. Keep an… an eye on hhhhim. If he gets t-t-t-too deep, it will be hard to separate th-them.
Xilva backed away as the pair approached, as the creature seemed to be on a mission towards the current bane of her existence.
Marsek: ...Wait, they might know the code!
Deacon: Response
With her tricorder still recording, she carefully watched as the being tapped out the sequence - at least she had gotten part of it right, the eye was definitely in it - just at the end. Slowly, it clicked in her mind.
Kessler: ::still in a softened tone:: The doors should be opening in just a second.
Venn: Praise the Artist.
Marsek: ::sighs in relief:: It's directional, then the open command. I don't know how long that would have taken me to figure out. Thank the Prophets.
oO Probably too long. Oo
Deacon: Response
When the doors opened with a soft hiss, the atmosphere seemed to stabilize and the temperature warmed by a few degrees. At least the environmental danger was out of the way, but she still stayed on the edge of the room, away from the doors - whatever she felt, she didn't want to agitate the creature.
Evinrude: Sir... ::Tess looked from Jack to his charge and back.:: We've got your back. No harm will come to anyone. ::With his last words he tried to focus a sense of wellbeing and protective care upon the entity.::
Venn: :: placing her hand on Deacon’s arm :: Your turn to steady me, big guy. Maybe together we can both keep from falling head over heels.
Marsek: ::checks the cylinders again:: That does say quarantine...but a quarantine for what? And why... ::pauses:: ...oh.
Things seemed to fit with what she and Nakada had found out and kept quiet. If the water and the more aquatic Caretakers represented the evolution, then this creature was possibly the prehistoric version of them - perhaps even the ones whose experiments with creating life caused the monsters possibly roamed the Reef's forest. That would require more research, and more questions to ponder.
Deacon/Kessler: Response
Xilva followed the others, chewing on her lip as she was lost in thought. They had escaped, and both Deacon and Venn seemed to be recovering quickly - but it was her fault for getting them locked in there in the first place. If only she could have read the sign, then they would have known to avoid that room!
Evinrude: I see an opening, up ahead, looks like a direct path to where we came in. What do we think - the way we came, or the new, direct route?
Venn: Let’s hope it’s the exit.
Marsek: ...Whichever you think is best, sirs.
She knew she was supposed to be elated at the discovery, and in a way, she was - but what did they unleash now?
Deacon/Kessler: Response
