((Shuttle Bay 1, Deck 9, USS Ronin))

Fascinating, indeed, to hear so much history about the vessel on which they were now serving. They had initially assumed the ship to be newly commissioned, yet it appeared this was not the case. They were still adjusting to Starfleet culture and its extensive history, and their knowledge of starships remained limited. Beyond the vessel on which they served, their understanding was minimal, and even that knowledge largely consisted of basic operational familiarity rather than historical context. They made a quiet mental note to research the matter further.

They would never have admitted it aloud, but they had become somewhat attached to the Thor. Perhaps this was simply because it had been their first assignment, and already a considerable amount had occurred during their time aboard. Observing another individual express a similar reverence for a ship was… encouraging.

When they had first joined Starfleet, they had regarded it primarily as a contingency. They had enlisted largely to demonstrate to themselves that they were capable of doing so, and they had not placed much importance on the organization itself. However, as time passed within the fleet, the individuals they encountered and the connections they gradually formed had proven… fascinating, if occasionally exhausting.

They studied the human’s facial expression as best their limited familiarity allowed, then nodded with quiet satisfaction at the stories. It seemed he, too, had undertaken a significant journey to arrive here. There was, however, a brief pause when he mentioned the Buttler. Their thoughts shifted to the first death they had witnessed, and to its connection with that ship.

Had Lieutenant Kessler known those who had been involved?

Kessler: Our last mission was quite unusual. ::beat:: Or maybe it was usual for the Alpha Isle's. I am still learning as much about this region of space as I can. It's significantly different from the Gamma Quadrant.

Given the vague response regarding the lieutenant’s previous mission, and the limited information surrounding their captain’s alleged death, Taj’el chose not to pursue the matter further. It was not their place to request additional clarification, though they were quietly curious how a captain could be declared dead and then apparently not be. Human error was a plausible explanation.

Nevertheless, when the lieutenant opened the room for them, Taj’el entered. The quarters were small and orderly, yet sufficient for their purposes. It would provide a quiet space for study, as well as a place for their small companion to remain concealed while they were away.

((Deck 04, Guest Quarters, USS Ronin))

Taj'el: I had no idea the Thor had been so damaged. Most of my missions had been away from the Thor at this time, however we did fly and get trapped in Subspace.

They spoke idly as they moved about the room, briefly inspecting it and confirming that it was acceptable to their preferences. Once satisfied, they set their bag upon the bed and began removing several of their many PADDs, arranging them in a manner that could best be described as controlled disorder.

From the bag they then produced a small stuffed sehlat, placing it carefully upon the bed as though it might preside over the developing chaos.

They had been about to continue when it occurred to them that the lieutenant might not wish to remain standing there simply observing the process of unpacking. With that realization, they stepped away from the bed and returned to him.

Kessler: Not as fancy as those on the Thor. Please make yourself at home. You'll have full access to the ship's computer and services granted up to your usual security clearances.

Taj'el: It was private and quiet. I thanked you for your hospitality, sir.

Kessler: On this deck, section seven, starboard side is the 47 Lounge. Popular social area for the crew. There is also a fitness suite. Holosuites 1, 2, 3, and 4 and the upper level to the Arboretum.

They withdrew their personal PADD and began recording the information he provided. The 47 Lounge was noted in particular. It was a location they might prefer to avoid; however, they were aware that Doctor Saa would likely observe that they had a tendency to avoid social environments. Consequently, they made a brief note to visit the lounge at least once.

Taj'el: Deck Four contained most of the crew’s personal quarters, then? I expected that I would spend the majority of my time either here or in Sickbay.

They had heard that much of the crew would soon be departing on shore leave. However, having arrived so late, Taj’el felt it was only logical to compensate for the time that had been spent traveling by focusing on their duties. They also wished to demonstrate that their presence had not been an unnecessary expenditure of fuel or resources.

Looking away from the human, they adjusted their gloves slightly. They were still attempting to prove themselves useful and had hoped to do so aboard the Ronin, yet it appeared the crisis that had required their assistance had already concluded.

At the very least, it seemed reasonable that their presence might allow members of the medical staff to enjoy their leave with fewer concerns regarding their responsibilities.

Taj’el: Forgive me if I was keeping you from your other duties. If necessary, I could research the vessel’s layout myself.

Kessler: response

Taj’el: I see. I admit that, as a medical officer, I was somewhat unfamiliar with the responsibilities that accompanied other departments. How did you come to enter the field of security? Had you always served in that capacity?

They briefly considered their own change in career path. Moving to stand beside him, they folded their hands neatly in front of their body and looked up at the taller man, waiting for him to continue.

Kessler: response

Thinking about his answer there was a bit of hesitation in their voice as they thought about what to say next, it was a bit of a personal question but one they had investment in.

Taj’el: Do you find stratification in your work then?

They briefly considered their own change in career path. Moving to stand beside him, they folded their hands neatly in front of their body and looked up at the taller man, waiting for him to continue.
