(( Transporter Room 1, USS Goodall ))

Serin glanced steadily around the room as she entered it, the strap of her case slung across her shoulders. Inside were all the supplies she’d need for her mission. Well, if she got the opportunity to observe the creatures firsthand. Not that she was overly optimistic about this possibility. It was Starfleet, after all. The bureaucrats seemed to prefer to contain and destroy unknowns, despite the Fleet’s mandates.

Her Starfleet standard-issue boots thudded one after the other as she stepped up onto the transporter pad.

Venn: Ready for this?

Velis: ::shrugs:: It’s not really much different than any other transport.

It was more to convince herself than the woman beside her. Though she was a little nervous, she had every faith in the transporter operators of both the Goodall and the Ronin. Transporter technology had come a long way since its inception, and they’d advanced their understanding of it.

Venn: My first high-warp transfer, so I am nervous as a cat in a wet paper bag, as my friend’s mother used to say. :: Not sure what that means, exactly, but it sounds stressful.

Velis: ::chuckles:: Humans and their peculiar expressions, yes?

A familiar sound echoed from the transporter control console.

Chief: It’s time, Lieutenants.

Not trusting herself to speak, Serin merely nodded.

Bridge: =/\= Transporter Room, prepare for transport. There will be no synchronizing. Warp speeds match and we're transporting on the Ronin's command. =/\=

Chief: =/\= Transporter Room standing by. =/\=

Bridge: =/\= Transport in three, two, one. =/\=

(( Transporter Room, USS Ronin ))

The familiar blue shimmer of the transporter faded, and she found herself looking out at the Ronin transporter chief. Well, that was another one for the books. It wasn’t the first transport between ships at warp, and she doubted it would be the last.

Venn: Lieutenant Alira Venn, Mission Specialist. Request permission to come aboard.

Velis: ::nods:: And Lieutenant Serin Velis, Mission Specialist and Astrobiologist.

Security: Welcome aboard. We're to escort you to the Captain. If you'll come with us?

Velis: ::smiles and nods:: Of course. Lead the way.

((Conference Room, Deck 03, USS Ronin))

Most of Serin’s career was spent in a lab at headquarters with limited exposure to starship environments, so this would take a little getting used to. She was more than aware of the fact that they were traveling at warp and could feel it through the deck. Would she ever get used to that?

They entered the room to find a group of officers already waiting for them.

Niac: response

Raga: Welcome aboard. Commander Toryn Raga.

Velis: ::smiles:: Lieutenant Serin Velis. A pleasure to meet you, Commander.

Venn: response

Kessler: ::looking to his security team:: Dismissed.

Serin longed for a cup of tea to soothe her nerves, but that would have to wait. They had more urgent matters to attend to.

Raga: Thank you, Chief. Now, I hope the two of you can explain why we just risked two ships and both of your lives in such a risky transfer? I understand there’s an urgency but we’ve been curious as to what could require this level of haste.

Serin was more than happy to let Venn field that question. For her, it was less a matter of urgency than scientific curiosity. She was simply following orders, though they were orders she was more than eager to follow if it meant getting the opportunity to study the creature up close.

Niac/Kel/Venn/Kessler: response

She noted the look the one called Commander Raga exchanged with his commanding officer before the former tapped his commbadge.

Raga: Right. That bears further details but we’re missing a few people who should be here for this. =/\= Raga to Sickbay and Engineering. Quentin, Marty. Drop whatever you’re doing and report to the conference room immediately. You’re going to want to hear this. =/\= ::he tapped at the controls on the table and double checked the coordinates:: Our new course has us heading practically right on the Alliance and Consortium’s doorsteps.

Serin had done a bit of research on the Lattice Alliance and the Consortium en route and couldn’t blame the Commander for his reluctance. Even with the little she knew about them, she was a little nervous about a potential encounter.

Velis: All the more reason for urgency, wouldn’t you say?

Niac/Kel/Venn/Kessler: response

Raga: ::he nodded:: We’ve squared off with them both many times, more than anyone except for maybe the Khitomer. Although, I don’t recall if they’ve had the displeasure of dealing with the Consortium, but the Lattice Alliance most certainly.

Given the man’s hesitation, the information wasn’t surprising. She’d heard stories from officers who’d encountered them, but until now had dismissed them as exaggeration and embellished tales to gain the admiration of their colleagues.

But something in Raga’s posture as he spoke told a different story and made her just as eager to avoid learning for herself.

Niac/Kel/Venn/Kessler: response

A moment later, the doors parted, admitting two more officers.

Raga: This is our CMO and our Chief Engineer, Lieutenant Commanders Beck and Tucker. Quentin, Marty, these are Lieutenants Venn and Velis. ::he looked at their guests:: If you’d be so kind as to repeat what you told us to them?

Niac/Kel/Venn/Kessler/Tucker/Beck: response

She listened thoughtfully as the conversation continued, her expression darkening slightly, irritation replacing her earlier enthusiasm.

Velis: ::folds her hands:: In truth, we don’t know much about the creature. Only that it is very large, moreso than our instruments and scans can measure without days, possibly weeks of deeper research. None of the ships that have been sent to study it have been able to get close enough for more than cursory studies. We haven’t wanted to risk provoking it to defend itself.

Venn/Kessler: Responses

Niac / Raga: Responses

Kel / Tucker / Beck: Responses

Velis: ::thoughtfully:: My task is to work with your science and medical personnel to learn more about the creature. ::glances at Venn:: The lieutenant can perhaps enlighten you more as to her purpose.

Venn: Response

Niac / Raga / Kessler: Responses

Kel / Tucker / Beck: Responses
