((Stellar Cartography, Deck 10, USS Ronin))

The Orion rubbed her fingers against her eyelids for a moment as she took a break from staring at the monitor. At this point she could see the LCARs burned into her retinas. They’d been digging into the black box from the ‘not their Kurosawa’ for longer than she dared think about.

Solana: I swear if I have to stare at this any longer I’m going to stab something. Lots of data, but for all I can tell almost none of it’s useful to us.

She murmured to herself. However her Cardassian compatriot seemed to have stumbled on something of interest.

Esot: What do you make of this?

Jenta blinked and moved over to look at what Esot was referring to. When she saw the word Sencha, she sneered.

Solana: I think things just got a lot more dangerous.

Before they could get too deep into the conversation, the CO's voice filtered through the comm.

Kel: =/\= Kel to Ensign Esot and Chief Solana, please meet me in transporter Room 2. =/\=

She saw Esot’s brows raise, and Jenta cocked her head slightly.

Esot: =/\= This is Ensign Esot. Understood, Captain - we will join you there shortly. We have some additional updates regarding the black box data. =/\=

Solana: =/\= Understood, sir. On our way. =/\=

Kel: =/\= Response =/\=

Jenta moved towards the door when she noted the Ensign was doing something with her PADD so she waited a moment.

Esot: After you, Chief.

Solana: Sure thing, but we’re making a stop on the way.

Jenta half turned and nodded to Dekas and T’Fearne on the way out.

((Transporter Room 2, USS Ronin))

The two of them strode into the transporter room and appeared to have beaten Kel there. She noted the pair of heavy duty EV suits waiting for them and nodded to the Bajoran transporter chief. She could almost cut the tension between her and Esot with one of her knives.

Jenta had made them detour to the armory on the way and as she moved over to the suits so she could start donning her own, she set down the phaser rifle slung over her back. Since they were going on an away mission she grabbed both of the Aquila phasers she preferred to wear, those were holstered on each thigh. She advised that the Ensign arm herself with a sidearm if preferred, but she assumed she’d been asked to tag along as a dedicated Security escort so she might be the only one armed.

Esot: It's been some time since I had to put on a suit like this - most of the patients I interacted with at the Farm were in an isolation chamber if there was any active radiation.

Jenta’s brow raised slightly as she set down the armaments and slipped into the lower half of her suit.

Solana: These aren’t standard EV suits either, these are the heavy duty hazardous kind. Which makes me inclined to believe the Captain already knows about the Sencha radiation.

It wasn't long before the Captain's arrival, at which point Jenta already had her suit on, minus the helmet and had both sidearms and her rifle secured snugly on the suit.

Esot: Captain Kel.

Solana: Sir. ::she nodded:: Considering the suits it’s safe to say you already know about the Sencha radiation?

Kel: Response

She offered a grim smile, lifting the padd and using her thumb to sync it with her suit before setting the padd aside and twisting her helmet into place.

Esot: Ready as I will ever be.

Solana: Always. ::she slipped on her helmet:: And in my defense sir, the only people we know of dabbling in Sencha experiments are both deserving of getting shot. I don’t think I need to cite regulations about armed escorts, do I sir. ::She said dryly::

Jenta stood tall but there was a slight darkness behind her eyes. She had seen up close at the Siege of DS33 what Sencha did to people, Federation and Alliance alike. She imagined it was not too dissimilar to someone seeing napalm or a Varon-T disruptor used for the first time. She would of course remove her armaments as much as ordered to, but she knew that he knew she wasn’t the trigger happy sort.

Kel: Response

((40 hours after the incident— Habitat Dome “The Hab”, Moon Sigma, Ross 580 System))

The transporter beam deposited them on a slightly raised platform in what appeared to be the dome's operations center; the administrator appeared not long after, a Romulan man who had the look she’d seen on Osiris and many survivors of the Dominion War.

tr’Kharis: ::chin up, squaring shoulders:: I am Administrator Soldu tr’Kharis. Thank you for your… timely offer of aid. ::swallows a bitter taste:: This is my 2IC, and our chief project scientist, Joakim Aduko.

She could hear the forced nature of the thank you and suspected this wasn’t a Romulan from the Republic but one from the old Empire. Honestly, she was surprised to see anyone other than Tholians and Sheliak here. Maybe this was a Consortium operation, but if so, why were they being friendly.

Aduko: Response

Solana: Senior Chief Petty Officer Solana. Security.

She nodded simply and introduced herself just as simply.

Kel: Response

tr’Kharis: Containment failure of an experimental reactor. An unfortunate accident. We would appreciate assistance evacuating the system. I believe you’ve already encountered some of our… overeager personnel. Are they alive?

Aduko: Response

The Orion stood in a relaxed posture but as with her Cardassian shipmate she was observing intensely. Whenever the Romulan wasn’t looking at them she made a quick visual study of the room. She noted exits, the state of the room and sought out any other people present. In case this was a trap.

Solana: Experimental and dangerous it seems. ::she commented::

Kel: Response

tr’Kharis: This is not a research base anymore, Mr Kel. It’s an extinction timer and by the gates of Erebus, I intend to leave it before it swallows me.

That was not something she expected or wanted to hear, that he was admitting things were that far out of control.

Aduko: Response

Kel: Response

Esot: Are you the only ones here?

tr’Kharis: ::deep sigh:: We have a few brave scientists, who volunteered to stay behind at The Lid. Rurat'dari and another are trying to stabilise the reactor, but it has been two days, and they have been unable to patch the leak. Your people are welcome to try Mr Kel.

Aduko: Response

Solana: Will that include full access? Won’t do us any good to trip any security protocols trying to keep you from being swallowed.

Kel: Response

Esot: I will need a closer look at the leak itself, plus access to the records for all of the previous attempts. I will also need access to the reactor's schematics and power systems layout.

Solana: Do you have any personnel in need of immediate medical treatment? We can beam them back to the Ronin for care while we try to save the sector from the mess you caused.

There was more bite behind the Senior Chief’s words than intended so she shot Kel an apologetic look. Sencha radiation was not something she felt should be messed with by anyone and yet here they were again.

tr'Kharis/Aduko/Kel: Response

Esot: Perhaps a bottle of kanar. ::amused:: No, I think that's all I should need.

Solana: I for one would like to know who you’re working for, Administrator. The radiation we detected here isn’t exactly something available just anywhere. And neither of the groups we know working with it are the sort to have good intentions for its use. Are we going to have to worry about having unpleasant company showing up?

It was a valid security concern. If there was a chance that either the Alliance or Consortium might show up to tie up loose ends then they needed to be prepared.

Kel: Response

tr'Kharis/Aduko/Kel: Response

Esot: Anything else, sir?

Solana: Aren’t there supposed to be backup safety measures in place for something like this?

tr'Kharis/Aduko/Kel/Esot: Response

The Orion wondered if backups even mattered half the time considering how often they failed, even in Starfleet and they had triple redundancies.

Solana: Based on the current state of things, how long can someone be exposed before they end up like the two we picked up earlier?

They were wearing the heavy duty suits but she worried if those would be enough to buy them more than a few minutes.

tr'Kharis/Aduko/Kel/Esot: Response

Solana: If we’re going to be here a while I recommend we set up some pattern enhancers in case that leak starts messing with the transporters.

tr'Kharis/Aduko/Kel/Esot: Response
