((Deep Space, Bridge Deck 3, USS Ronin))

It had been about two hours since Niac's speech had  ended.  V'Len had spent the time enjoying his new station on the bridge.  He'd checked to ensure the sensors were operating optimally.  Then he'd reviewed recent reports from the Alpha Isles about any new anomalies or stellar phenomena.  He'd checked in to see how much Millie had grown back on Endicronimas V.  Finally he'd checked the logs from the Starfleet sensor array in the Isles.  A few months back there had been activity which suggested the presence of a spaceborne life form in the area.  So far V'Len had been unable to definitively track anything down.  The current readout was rife with possibilities, but nothing offering proof positive of a cosmozoan presence.

Niac: Time?

V'Len looked up at the star still streaming passed the viewscreen.

Raga: Five minutes to intercept.

Niac: Alright, last chance to put your bets in on our mission. Ten slips of GPL per guess, anyone gets it right goes home with the pot. My money is on...hmm....an Admiral lost his prized Teneebian skunk and every ship in the sector has been dispatched to find it.

Kessler: Well, my father once told me that Daystrom had Captain James T. Kirk's body hidden away in their secret vaults. I'm betting they lost it and now we're on a Kirk quest.

V'Len through Jack a baffled expression.  Surely Jack was not suggesting James Kirk had escaped and they'd been dispatched to bring him back.  They certainly would have sent the Enterprise for that.

Raga: There’s a rare coffee discovered in a nebula somewhere and we’re on recovery duty for Admiral Janeway.

Kel: ::chuckling:: I'm guessing we're moving a mad supercomputer from point A to point B.

The amusement faded as their helmswoman spoke up.

Nicolau:  Sensor contact...it's the Goodall and she's hauling as...teroids..uh..sir.  Warp nine point five seven....we'll be in transporter range in two minutes.

The helm officer seemed somewhat unsure.

Niac: Problem Lieutenant?

V'Len began checking the sensor information.  Any objects or anomalies in the area could pose a problem for the transport operation that needed to occurr.

Nicolau: No sir just...need to make a small adjustment to our course so we don't...uh...die...sir.  We just received an encrypted data burst from the Goodall...no audio, just text.  It's a set of coordinates...we're to proceed there at maximum warp once we get the specialists aboard. No other details.

V'Len glanced at the coordinates and ran them through the astronavigation database.

Niac: Alright so maybe not the Admiral's skunk. Plot a course for those coordinates and change course after the intercept.

Kessler: ::in a lowered voice:: And the plot thickens.

Raga: It might still be coffee. ::he smirked::

Kel: Doubtful.  There are no know M-class planets in that region.  Unless this new coffee grows in a vacuum.

Nicolau: Thirty seconds to transporter range....twenty...

Niac: Mr. Raga...advise transporter room one to energize when ready.

Raga: =/\= Bridge to Transporter room one, energize as soon as it’s safe to do. =/\=

The viewscreen showed them overtaking the Goodall.  The ships were parallel for the briefest of moments and then the ship was bending away toward the new coordinates, leaving the Goodall on its own.

Niac:  Status?

Kessler: Transport complete Captain.

Raga: Confirmed. Our guests are fine and being escorted up by Security.

Kel: Think we'll get some answers now or will they keep us in the dark a bit longer?

Karrod nodded and stood from the chair with Toryn rising from his a moment later.

Niac: Then lets find out what this is all about. Have security escort them to the main conference room. Gentlemen, with me. Lieutenant Nicolau...good flying...the bridge is yours. Get your relief up here while we go meet our guests.
V'Len rose and waited to fall in line with Jack.

Nicolau:  Sir?!...I mean..uh..yes...yes sir.  I have the..uh...bridge...sir.

Kessler: Precision flying Lieutenant. Excellent work.

Raga: Agreed. Mister O’Connor better hurry back or you might end up with an extra pip before him.

Kel: Ten out of Ten, lieutenant.

((Conference Room, Deck 03, USS Ronin))

Karrod, Jack, Toryn and V'Len had made themselves comfortable in the conference room while they waited for their guests.  V'Len had offered a joke that combined a horse in a bar with an Enlightenment philosopher.  Reviews of the joke had been mixed.  Finally however the doors opened and the security team escorted a set of officer into the room.  One in red, the other in blue.

Niac: response

Raga: Welcome aboard. Commander Toryn Raga.

Velis: ::smiles:: Lieutenant Serin Velis. A pleasure to meet you, Commander.

Venn: response

The woman in red appeared to have Vulcan heritage or perhaps Romulan.  The science officer was decidedly Trill.  Joined if V'Len was not very much mistaken.  V'Len was not sure he recognized the name Velis, but he might well have come across it in 6 lifetimes.

Kessler: ::looking to his security team:: Dismissed.

The door hissed closed and the silence held for a moment.

Raga: Thank you, Chief. Now, I hope the two of you can explain why we just risked two ships and both of your lives in such a risky transfer? I understand there’s an urgency but we’ve been curious as to what could require this level of haste.

Kel:  And secrecy.

Niac/Venn/Kessler: response

V'Len was pleased to see there was a science officer present, it made it less likely that an armed conflict was a forgone conclusion.

Raga: Right. That bears further details but we’re missing a few people who should be here for this. =/\= Raga to Sickbay and Engineering. Quentin, Marty. Drop whatever you’re doing and report to the conference room immediately. You’re going to want to hear this. =/\= ::he tapped at the controls on the table and double checked the coordinates:: Our new course has us heading practically right on the Alliance and Consortium’s doorsteps.

Velis: All the more reason for urgency, wouldn’t you say?

Kel:  It's a pretty remote sector. No known M-class planets. Is there some kind of treasure on a rocky moon we're after?

Niac/Venn/Kessler: response

Raga: ::he nodded:: We’ve squared off with them both many times, more than anyone except for maybe the Khitomer. Although, I don’t recall if they’ve had the displeasure of dealing with the Consortium, but the Lattice Alliance most certainly.

Kel:  Both parties are surprisingly difficult to deal with.

Niac/Venn/Kessler: response

Marty and Quentin soon arrived and V'Len hoped they would finally hear what this was all about.

Raga: This is our CMO and our Chief Engineer, Lieutenant Commanders Beck and Tucker. Quentin, Marty, these are Lieutenants Venn and Velis. ::he looked at their guests:: If you’d be so kind as to repeat what you told us to them?

V'Len sat back, and prepared to take notes on his padd. His eyes lit up at the mention of a spaceborne life form.

Niac/Venn/Kessler/Tucker/Beck: response

Kel:  What can you say about the creature's physiology?  How is it propelling itself?  Do we have any ideas on size.

Velis: ::folds her hands:: In truth, we don’t know much about the creature. Only that it is very large, moreso than our instruments and scans can measure without days, possibly weeks of deeper research. None of the ships that have been sent to study it have been able to get close enough for more than cursory studies. We haven’t wanted to risk provoking it to defend itself.

That did not bode well.

Venn/Kessler: Responses

Niac / Raga: Responses

Kel:  Spaceborne life forms are a long standing interest of mine.  We've been tracking several signals which we believe could be cosmozoan, I'll get the data sent to you.

Tucker / Beck: Responses

Velis: ::thoughtfully:: My task is to work with your science and medical personnel to learn more about the creature. ::glances at Venn:: The lieutenant can perhaps enlighten you more as to her purpose.

V'Len frowned.  So this wasn't a purely scientific study of a rare life form.  There was more to it.

Venn: Response

Niac / Raga / Kessler: Responses

Kel:  Surely, we won't be taking the creature out of its natural environment?

Tucker / Beck: Responses

V'Len leaned in to look at Karrod.

Kel: Sir, it's one thing to study a creature, it's something else to attempt to contain or relocate it.

Niac/Raga/Kessler/Tucker/Beck/Venn/Velis: Response

V'Len began entering information into his padd.

Kel:  The spaceborne life form the Starfleet has encountered communicate in a variety of ways.  I'd suggest a long range scan of the creature's magnetic field and EM emissions.  Maybe there's a way we can let it know we're not a threat.

Niac/Raga/Kessler/Tucker/Beck/Venn/Velis: Response

Kel:  ::looking at Velis::  Do you suppose it would respond to a standard hail?

Niac/Raga/Kessler/Tucker/Beck/Venn/Velis: Response
