Delphina frowned, looking at the holographic brain and nervous system standing in front of her, tapping her fingers against her PADD.
Wren: Do you feel…. Better? Like this?
Holographic nervous system:..... No, it’s worse. Definitely worse
Wren: Gotcha ::tapping some instructions in:: Computer, can you modify the brain to reflect half-Betazoid and half-Vulcan?
She watched as the brain shifted slightly, and she adjusted the settings on her PADD, watching the brain scans jump.
Wren: How’s that?
Nervous System: I don’t think that it’s working
Disappointed, Delphina closed out the scanning program, glancing up as her comm-badge pinged
Kel: =/= Ensign Wren, please come to Science Lab 2. =/=
Wren: =/\= On my way, sir! =/\= Hey, I have to go, do you mind if I come back later?
Nervous system: Oh, totally, take your time
Wren: Thanks, I’ll be back later. ::turning off the program, and hurrying out of the holodeck::
She’d been meaning to spend some extra time with Kel as it was, and this was the perfect opportunity. She'd spent about an hour trying to go through the federation records to see what she could learn about Sencha radiation, and after taking a short break to feel a little sad, she was ready to try and learn more.
Luckily. She was already fairly close to science lab 2, and she hurried down the hall, almost plowing into Poagie as she went. Calling an apology over her shoulder, she slipped into the lab where Niac already stood. Kel was standing there with a bottle of brandy, and another ensign she had yet to talk to were there as well. She gave the stranger what she hoped was a reassuring smile.
Zh'taan: G-Good morning, Captain. ::straightens into an official posture:: Uh… I am Ensign Zh'taan, we would like to speak with you about Sencha radiation.
He also gave a nod of greeting to Ensign Wren.
Kel: ::nodding his head:: Morning Karrod, Ensign Wren. Ensign Zh'taan and I were just trying to break down some of what we experienced on our last mission.
Wren: Good morning, sir. And it's nice to meet you, Zh’taan, I heard good things about your work on the last mission.
Niac: Response
Kel: Given the nature of the phenomena, namely that it was a Sencha generator, you seemed uniquely qualified to give us some insight.
Delphina perked up a bit, reaching into her bag to pull out her PADD. She knew this wasn't a formal interview, but anything she could find out was helpful
Wren: :: excited:: Yes, I've been curious about how Sencha radiation is formed.
Niac: Response
Kel: Ensign Zh'taan, perhaps you can bring the Captain and Ensign Wren up to speed on our discussion.
Zh'taan: ::quickly checks his PADD:: Th-the Lieutenant Commander Kel and I, we… um… were trying to figure out how the Alliance managed to emit so much Sencha radiation without… um… it damaging the generator.
Delphina tilted her head a bit, concerned by the ensign's apparent nervousness. oO Was I like that a few weeks back? Oo. She didn't dare violate his privacy by trying to sift through the white noise in her mind to try and locate his voice, but she did so her best to seem as welcoming as possible.
Niac: Response
Kel: My key question is how the hell were they doing it. How did they generate Sencha will still using subspace to pull energy to pull energy from a star in another universe?
Zh'taan: We… we also think that Tholian technology is… could be involved.
Niac: Response
Wren: ::encouragingly:: what we currently know about Tholoan technology is unfortunately limited to mostly offensive weaponry, but I've heard records of them manipulating space-time before.
Zh'taan: If… if I rely on Starfleet’s various documentation about the Tholians… uh… they are capable of creating structures that can alter space-time. We think that… that this ring ::he points at the ring on the schematic:: was built using Tholian technology, or at least contains part of… of that technology.
Niac/Kel: Response
Delphina nodded, thinking about the limited part of the Lid that she'd seen, and what she'd read in the notes.
Wren: that's definitely possible ::to Niac and Kel, a little insecure herself:: do we still have the Tholian or Rurat’dari on board? It couldn't hurt to ask them for verification.
Niac/Kel: Response
Zh'taan: So, we… we could almost think that this ring acts as an alignment point between our universe and the other one.
For some reason, as she looked at the structure, she found herself thinking of magnets and poles. The notes she’d rescued from the Lid had mentioned smaller black holes that the crew had been visiting, and various pieces of debris found there. Hell, the outside of the lid had been littered with debris, and she'd mentioned that the materials that the Jem’Hadar had been working with weren't exactly top of the line.
Wren: what if it's partially constructed from materials from that other universe? It's a bit of a longshot, but if the ring was constructed out of materials from this universe, maybe it would only be able to draw energy inwards from here. But if it was constructed from materials from that outside universe, even partially, maybe that would allow it to resonate at a frequency that would allow it to draw energy from both sides?
Zh'taan/Niac/Kel: Response
Wren: The records aren't complete, but if it was able to draw energy from both universes simultaneously, that would….. I guess that would mean it could run indefinitely…. If it runs out of energy from one universe, it could just pick up the slack from the other one until its original source is replenished?
Zh'taan/Niac/Kel: Response
Wren: :: getting a little anxious:’ It's just a hypothesis, of course. I really think we need to find a way to negotiate for further information. If the Jem’Hadar and the Tholian aren't options, maybe we can get a full picture from tr’Kharis.
Zh'taan/Niac/Kel: Response
