[Act 2 start for Team Rescue]
((Ready Room, Deck 3, USS Ronin, Ross-580 Gas Giant A, Moon Sigma))
Ian watched intently as V'Len stood before the monitor which now showed one of the moons of Ross-580's first gas giant. It was relatively the same size as Jupiter in the Sol System and its moons were just as numerous. Due to the gamma radiation emission, the Ronin had been forced to go the long way around and approach the moon away from the burst which would have damaged the ship irreparably. Now close to the moon the emission burst was less than 100 km across and narrowed as it approached the surface. The surface contained two domes, roughly 200 km apart. The damaged one glowed violently as gamma rays, ionized gasses and other particles erupted from the exposed interior. The other dome was undamaged and scans suggested it was some kind of habitation space to support whatever machinery was in place in the now damaged dome.
Kel: The computer still can't make heads or tails of what's going on down there, but our new friends in sickbay have a significant amount of cellular damage. Whatever they were doing, I think they may have lost control.
O'Connor: ::sighs:: Obviously it’s not the first or last science experiment gone awry that Starfleet’s needed to deal with. Why do these guys always seem to wanna screw with time though?
At least they’d found out that their Niac and Raga were ok. For now. That had come as a relief.
Tucker: Response
Kel: We need to figure out what's going on down there. Vomek made contact with their administrative center, I'll beam to the undamaged dome and try to figure out what they've been doing. Mr. O'Connor I'd like you to take T'Fearne, Wren, and Shortrith to find and aid any injured parties. Mr. Tucker, I'd like you to take Kessler, Evinrude and Nemes to assess what exactly they've put together over there, and how we can shut it down. I've asked Counselor Dekas see what information he can glean from our guests in sickbay.
O'Connor: ::nods then looks at Tuck:: I think we should take two Runabouts down. Scans show some pockets of major radiation that we probably can’t beam through. We can also use one as a triage center and we’d have more room for anyone we’re evacuating.Zambezi and Sojourn are currently prepped in the rotation.
Tucker: Response
There was one more aspect of the situation that V'Len needed to bring up.
Kel: Amongst the data transmitted from the Kurosawa before it exploded was a large amount of data about Sencha radiation. I don't need to tell you how dangerous that could make this situation.
Ian audibly sighed.
Sencha radiation had been discovered by one of Niac's previous hosts and had in fact gotten them killed. The Lattice Alliance had made use of Sencha in order to make a weapon which the Ronin crew had only just managed to stop. Karrod understood the most about what it was and what it did, with Alieth also quite knowledgeable. Ian wished either were here but he had faith in Kel and the crew here now. They’d deal with chronitons, sencha or even red matter. Whatever was thrown at them, this crew would respond.
O'Connor: Who doesn’t love another wrinkle.
Tucker: Response
Kel: I'm confident a lot of what we've experienced could be explained if these people are messing with Sencha Radiation. ::taking a deep breath:: The situation could also get a whole lot worse.
O'Connor: :: he smiled at V’Len:: Relax, mom. When are we never not super careful? :: his facade dropped:: Seriously, you’ve given us good teams. They’ll keep the two of us from doing something totally stupid.
Tucker: Response
V'Len stood up. Ian did as well and started for the door.
Kel: Make sure you're all wearing Hazardous Duty Environmental Suits (https://wiki.starbase118.net/wiki/Hazardous_Duty_Environmental_Suit). There could be significant health hazards. Keep an eye on radiation levels.
O'Connor: :: Ian clapped Kel on the shoulder on his way by:: Aye, Captain.
Tucker: Response
V'Len stepped out of the ready room.
Kel: =/\= Kel to Ensign Esot and Chief Solana, please meet me in transporter Room 2. =/\=
Ian stepped to the side with Tuck as Kel passed to the turbolift. Ian pulled out a padd with the schematics of the area.
O'Connor: I’ll put down here :: points to a larger structure:: Seems to be a communal space like a mess hall. Good gathering place to work out from. :: points again:: This building seems to be the main research facility. If you put down there we’re only about a quarter mile apart.
Tucker: Response
O’Connor: Sounds good.
He stepped aside from Tuck and tapped at his comm badge.
O’Connor: =/\= O’Connor to Lt. T’Fearne, Dr. Shortrith and Ensign Wren. Meet me at the Zanbezi in the shuttlebay in 5 minutes. Radiation protocols and ready for search and rescue. =/\=
