((Xenobiology Lab, Sickbay Complex, Deck 10, USS Ronin))

The comm channel closed, and Renaie finished their notetaking on the overall mood of the crew - tense, anxious, concerned. They donned a coat - just in case - before heading over to the Xenobiology lab in Sickbay to meet Doctor Beck.

As the doors slid open, Renaie smiled at their fellow doctor, glancing up at the drones he was looking at before facing him once again.

Beck: Counselor. Pleased you could join me.

Shortrith: Doctor. Figured it'd be worth helping any way I can. Any chance I could ask what's happening?

Beck: There is a lot going on right now, but I have one important question to ask you before we dig into anything: do you have any experience studying astrobiology? And are you at all familiar with cosmozoan life forms?

Renaie grimaced before shaking their head.

Shortrith: Nope.

Beck: We've got three hours to become experts, if that tells you anything.

Their face fell even more, and their eyebrows decided to knit themselves together.

Shortrith: Is there a big space lifeform out there we don't know much about?

Beck: Response

Shortrith: I take it that's what one of the specialists are there for?

Beck: Response

It was that which made Renaie pause and do some mental calculations.

Shortrith: … Galaxy class size? Akira class size? Any idea how big we're talking?

Beck: Response

Was the being malicious? Passive? Did the being have a motivation?

Those were answers nobody had.

Not even as the answers filtered through the ranks.

Shortrith: Do we have any information, or are we going in blind?

oO Most likely going in blind. But I'm asking for confirmation. Oo

Beck: Response

Renaie frowned, glancing out at the viewport.

As far as they were aware, the Ronin knew nothing of this being and were inbound for uncertain first contact in about three hours. oO Helpful. Oo

With no understanding of the creature… things could either go very well, or very badly. And they didn't want to give thought to which the odds were on.

Shortrith: Hold on- so the Ronin only has a blurry picture of the creature with no scale?

Beck: Response

The Klingon paused.

Shortrith: What if a picture was taken of something at the same scale, specifically an entity that we know the scale of, and use it as a reference point there? That may give us an idea of how big this thing is, and maybe use it as a biological reference point.

Beck: Response
