This wasn’t what Ian had in mind at all when he asked for a racing simulation. However, without his ID and with the way he still looked, they’d denied him anything from the Grand Theft Shuttle series.

He’d settled…

Tires screeched on the pavement and Ian banked the small go-cart hard to the right and through a spinning gold coin shape. An odd noise reverberated each time he moved through a coin.  He easily maneuvered through several before aiming toward a translucent rainbow cube bearing a white question mark. It was almost in reach but he was bumped from behind by a mustached man with an oversized head dressed in green and blue, causing him to miss the mark. Smirking, Ian gave his steering wheel a quick jerk and turned into the mustache man’s  little green car and forced it off the track.

This, however, caused Ian to get passed by an odd creature wearing what seemed to be a large polka dotted mushroom shaped helmet. Ian gunned the accelerator, zooming past the cutest tiny dinosaur ever and around a bandana clad monkey on a motorcycle. Mushroom man slowed and tried to bottle Ian in between the other two.

Seeing the hint of an opening, Ian sideswiped the motorcycle sending the monkey flailing off the side into the water far below. He hugged the outside of a tight turn and skidded over some sort of puddle or ice spot. He recovered in time to catch a glowing side ramp to jump a small ravine. The dinosaur wasn’t as lucky.

It was just Ian and the mushroom man now as they hit the final lap. Going anything less than full out wasn’t an option so Ian eeked out all possible speed to try to beat his opponent to the tunnel.

Usually his spatial awareness was spot on but not this time. Maybe it was the way he was crammed into the cart and his knees kept bumping his elbows or the distraction of the annoying music that seemed to be everywhere.

In the end it didn’t matter the cause.

In the end all that mattered was that he was sitting on the ground in a pile of parts that had smacked into the side of a holographic mountain.Safety protocols had kept him from any real harm except for the humiliation of the victorious waving arms of the mushroom man.

He sighed.

End of Scene for O’Connor.
