to USS Ronin – StarBase 118 Star Trek PBEM RPG
((Flight Operations Center, Deck 7, USS Ronin))
Knight: I think the word you’re looking for, Major, is disappear.
Years of combat experience had trained emotional outbursts out of her but there was a very long moment where she seriously considered putting her fist through the nearest console in frustration.
Singh: This entire area...possibly this entire system...is a damnable quagmire.
Knight: I’d suggest we shut down all flight ops for the time being. Between the chronitons, Sencha waves, and who knows what else, we shouldn’t be sending out birds in these conditions.
Ishani nodded and tapped several commands into the console. Alarms began chiming across the hologlobe and, hopefully, across subspace.
Singh: =/\= Snowball to all craft in the A.O., this is a general recall. All vessels are to break off from current assignments and return to the Ronin at maximum safe velocity. I say again this is a general recall, all search vessels acknowledge. =/\= Hopefully that'll save a few of our birds from wandering off to dimensions unknown but what can we do for the craft that have already vanished?
The man looked just as frustrated as she felt as he hammered away at his own console, the hologlobe rotating and resolving on different points in the system as various runabouts acknowledged the recall order and began heading back. The computer chirped with an update and Ishani glanced over to Knight expectantly.
Knight: Just got some information: the engineering crew is going to fire off an anti-chroniton burst to try to push out the chronitons that seem to be mucking up the space around the Ronin and in this sector.
Ishani raised an eyebrow.
Singh: Gunny, pretend for a moment I spent the majority of my professional years studying non-Newtonian flight dynamics and not, say, exotic particle physics and explain that to me.
The man offered a less than reassuring shrug that Ishani couldn't help but find agreeable considering their situation.
Knight: If all goes according to plan, the pulse will not only get rid of the chronitons around the ship but should also bring our ships back to our side if they’re out of phase. That is my thought. The pulses should do the trick.
Ishani rolled her eyes a bit.
Singh: This is what happens when the blue shirts are running the ship. Speaking of...I need to check in with the CO. ::She tapped at the comm:: =/\= Singh to the Bridge, I need to speak to Commander Kel or Commander Tucker. =/\=
The voice which came back a moment later did not belong to either man and instead belonged to one of the ships helm team.
Vomek: =/\= Response =/\=
Ishani felt something throb behind her eye but she kept her tone level. It took on a kind of frosted intensity the pilots in her wing had rightly come to fear.
Singh: =/\= Lieutenant...are you...are you telling me the entire command team has left the bridge while the ship is at alert? Where in the Koala's name have they gone? Who is in command? =/\=
Knight: Response
Ishani knew what the answer would be before she asked the question but it made the knowledge no easier to digest.
Vomek: =/\= Response =/\=
Knight: Response
Ishani pinched the bridge of her nose with two fingers as she used what remained of her self-control to keep from eviscerating the unfortunate Lieutenant.
Singh: =/\= Lieutenant...I have ordered a general recall of all our small craft....spatial conditions outside the ship are simply too dangerous for us to mount an effective search operation. We were in the process of recovering the wreckage of the Shinano when two more of my fighters and the S&R runabout vanished from sensors. I am told the ship is preparing to release an energy pulse which should counteract this effect...do you know when? Should I advise my people to take any special precautions? =/\=
Vomek: =/\= Response =/\=
Knight: Response
Ishani realized she was gripping the console hard enough to make the composite bend.
Singh: =/\= Lieutenant...listen very carefully. If the Commanders Kel and Tucker are out there...and haven't tumbled headlong into one of these anomalies...they're in enormous danger. Runabouts do not offer sufficient protection from whatever has been done to this system. You have to get them back to the ship immediately. Or I'm going to get them.=/\=
