((Azure Falls, Azure Horizon Beach & Spa, Lolagi IV))
Because this was shore leave and she wanted to enjoy some of what Lolagi had to offer she had scheduled the CQC class for an hour and a half after she’d beamed down. So she could settle into her room at the resort and also do some scouting. Turns out that there happened to be a waterfall right along the shoreline that fell down among some of the rocks. It was a dazzling view to behold, of the shimmering fresh water that cascaded down from about a hundred meters above into a tidal pool.
Near the falls was a lovely stretch of beach that had several beach chairs, some with umbrellas and other umbrellas in case someone wanted to throw down a towel or something, and even a roofed pavilion with tables. Tables which her duffle full of training gear for the class sat along with a stasis cooler of water bottles. Along with her skirt, neatly folded up on the duffle.
She had about thirty minutes before the class and the tidal pool just below the falls was absolutely stunning. There were also several stones well worn by time and the flow of the falls themselves that exuded serenity. Jenta only climbed up a few of the stones that were on the edge of the spray from the falling water, mindful as they were damp and potentially slippery. She started with a few minutes of Tai Chi, settling herself into a meditative foundation. Midway through the practiced movements, one of her twin curved blades was drawn, then the other. The slow, measured motions from before soon became rapid, curt, powerful as she seamlessly transitioned from Tai Chi, into Kali and Eskrima.
It was a daily routine to keep her skills sharp and her movements honed. The Isles was an unforgiving place currently, more so than the Par’tha Expanse had been and she had to keep as sharp as the blades she carried.
The alert from her comm badge that the time for her class was nearing made her shorten her warm up. A quick glance across the tidal pools and the falls themselves and she could see at least a couple of figures near the scheduled meeting place for her class. So she finished out a few rapidfire slashes and punches in the air and settled into her base posture. Sheathed blades and then dove into the deepest part of the pools at the base of the falls, where it was actually safe to do so.
Jenta emerged a moment later from the basin and tossed her hair back, a stream of water arced in the air above and behind her. Her bare feet sank into the warm sand with each step. Was she perhaps showing off a little because she’d recently binged a few ancient Terran entertainment programs in the last week from their late 19th century? Probably. Particularly because she knew she was Orion and since her pheromones were kept in check by the standard medications necessary to keep her from accidentally throwing the crew into chaos, she had to have fun in other ways.
She walked right over to the tables and scooped up a towel from her duffle though she just let herself drip dry a moment from the sea breeze while she made note of who had shown up for her class.
Solana: Here for the CQC class?
Wren: Yes! ::shoving her still-wet vial into her pocket, smoothing it:: I wasn’t sure what we should wear, I hope this is okay ::she is wearing a variation of the skant uniform that ends in shorts rather than the standard skirt::
Jenta offered the nervous Ensign a comforting smile and nod of her head. Then nodded to T’Fearne and the other woman with her that she did not recognize.
T’Fearne: Jenta. Delphina. ::her gaze flicked briefly over Wren’s attire, assessing function rather than form:: Freedom of movement is the main priority with garment choice. That looks fine.
Jenta nodded in agreement with T’Fearne’s comment about Delphina’s clothing and looked back at the Vulcanoid being introduced.
T’Fearne: This is Junior Lieutenant Taj’el, they are on temporary assignment to Ronin's medical department from The Thor. Taj’el, this is Ensign Delphina Wren of our engineering department and Senior Chief Petty Officer Jenta Solana also of security.
Solana: Welcome. Hope you’ve found your time with the Ronin pleasant so far. ::she smirked:: We can be a handful sometimes. ::to everyone:: So, who here besides T’Fearne needs a brush up on self-defence?
Taj’el: Response
Wren: ::awkwardly raising her hand:: We… did cover self-defense in the academy. One class for every year.
She smiled as T’Fearne went barefoot too, glad to see her fellow Security officer understood the reasoning.
T’Fearne: The academy provides a good foundation. ::measured:: But their classes for the most part are controlled environments. The Alpha Isles are less accommodating. It is logical to refine one’s defensive capability accordingly. ::to Taj’el:: What of the Thor’s current mission? You are operating in the Gamma Quadrant, are you not?
Solana: Like T’Fearne said. The Academy gives us a good start, but the rest of the galaxy will push us to need more than that.
Taj’el: Response
She caught a brief flash of discomfort and tension from Wren, a meaty snap and a crimson echo of pain flared for a moment and T’Fearne wondered what had happened. Had she been hurt during the recent mission? To her recollection, Wren had been one of the least injured after the moonbase, but she had witnessed others wounded around her.
T’Fearne: ::To Wren:: Have you done any training in Tassa'Akai1?
While she listened to hear what Delphina’s response was she slung the towel over her shoulders around the back of her neck and unzipped the large duffle to retrieve the bundled cluster of training knives and set them out on the table. She was not practiced in the Betazoid martial art, but having been a Starfleet Marine for years as required by their training she knew of hundreds of such arts. But she was only competent in about a dozen. Kali, Eskrima and Kaci were what she specialized in.
Taj’el/Wren: Response
T’Fearne: I competed semi-professionally on Betazed from 88 to 91. It’s the non standard weapon that I am most proficient with.
Jenta tilted her head slightly. That was impressive.
Solana: Impressive.
Taj’el/Wren: Response
T’Fearne: ::offering to Solana:: You may use me to demonstrate if you like.
A slight smirk was given at the volunteer as she scooped up several training knives and handed them out to each of them. One for now since handling two at the same time was a bit more along the advanced training which this wasn’t.
Solana: Certainly, though I hope you don’t regret that tomorrow. ::she chuckled and addressed them all:: These are training knives, which when we’re done you’ll at least know which end goes into the other person. But the basis on close quarters combat doesn’t require a weapon. In fact, a lot of times you might find the only way to protect yourself is with your own hands and body.
Taj’el/Wren/T’Fearne: Response
After passing over the knives to the others she tossed the two she kept for herself into the sand behind her and kept her focus on T’Fearne. The Orion slowly shifted her stance, letting her toes dig into the sand a little. Her arms raised, hands open palmed but held in front of her while she met the Vulcanoid’s gaze.
Solana: Since I know T’Fearne has some training we’ll warm up with some sparring a few minutes. Then I’ll teach you some basic movements and several different scenarios and how to protect yourself during them. First lesson..
Jenta’s foot that was partially buried in the sand kicked up abruptly to fling a cloud of sand right towards T’Fearne’s face.
Solana: Your opponent will not always fight honorably.
She then lunged towards the Vulcanoid and threw several measured slaps and chopping motions towards her, while she kept her feet moving in a way that kept her stance as much as possible. Each strike was at half speed and not her full power, to gauge T’Fearne’s capabilities and if they could ramp up the contact if needed.
Taj’el/Wren/T’Fearne: Response
