((Azure Falls, Azure Horizon Beach & Spa, Lolagi IV))
Wren: ::awkwardly raising her hand:: We… did cover self-defense in the academy. One class for every year.
T’Fearne: The academy provides a good foundation. ::measured:: But their classes for the most part are controlled environments. The Alpha Isles are less accommodating. It is logical to refine one’s defensive capability accordingly. ::to Taj’el:: What of the Thor’s current mission? You are operating in the Gamma Quadrant, are you not?
Solana: Like T’Fearne said. The Academy gives us a good start, but the rest of the galaxy will push us to need more than that.
Delphina noticed that T’Fearne seemed to be taking off her shoes and hurried to do the same, tossing them onto the beach next to her.
Taj’el: Response
T’Fearne: ::To Wren:: Have you done any training in Tassa'Akai1?
Wren: I… have not, but I’ve seen other people do it. My brother took it in high school, and I went to a couple of matches.
Taj’el: Response
T’Fearne: I competed semi-professionally on Betazed from 88 to 91. It’s the non standard weapon that I am most proficient with.
It was about now that Delphina started to wonder what exactly she had gotten herself into. Back in the lift, Solana had made it sound like a beginner class, but if she was with people who already knew what they were doing… oO Maybe I should think about ducking out… I don’t want to waste anyone’s time, or end up with a concussion. Oo
Solana: Impressive.
Wren: ::a little awkwardly:: Non-Standard?
Taj’el: Response
T’Fearne: ::offering to Solana:: You may use me to demonstrate if you like.
Delphina watched as Solana passed out training knives, and, as she stood there holding a knife, she felt both very capable, and extremely idiotic. She was pretty sure she’d never held a fighting knife that wasn’t a movie prop, and even though these were just training knives, she was fairly sure she looked like something from older earth culture…. Someone obsessed with a particular kind of art from. oO I think the colloquial term for it was…. Weeb? Oo
Solana: Certainly, though I hope you don’t regret that tomorrow. ::she chuckled and addressed them all:: These are training knives, which when we’re done you’ll at least know which end goes into the other person. But the basis on close quarters combat doesn’t require a weapon. In fact, a lot of times you might find the only way to protect yourself is with your own hands and body.
Taj’el/T’Fearne: Response
Wren: ::poking the tip of the training knife with a mixture of curiosity and apprehension:: oO…. Wait, is this modeled after those Andorian flute-daggers? I’ve been trying to get ahold of one of these because they’re supposed to be hard to play. Oo ::no longer fully paying attention::
Solana: Since I know T’Fearne has some training we’ll warm up with some sparring a few minutes. Then I’ll teach you some basic movements and several different scenarios and how to protect yourself during them. First lesson..
Delphina jumped up in surprise as Solana moved suddenly, kicking up a cloud of sand into T’Fearne’s face.
Solana: Your opponent will not always fight honorably.
Then, in a split second, the two women were fighting, and Delphina immediately forgot about leaving. It wasn’t even that she was watching two clear power-houses go at it, Delphina honestly felt as though, if she moved, she might throw off the rhythm that the two had fallen into, and she might get kicked in the face. She turned to Taj’el, lowering her voice.
Wren: ::softly:: I don’t think I can do that, I- she said this was a beginner class.
Taj’el/T’Fearne/Solana: Response
The two continued, and Delphina winced as a blow connected. As she watched, she tried to position her feet correctly to at least understand how they managed to lock their steps together. It was like watching an intricate dance to which she did not know the steps.
Wren: ::to Taj’el:: Wait, how did she do that? It looked like- ::realizing that Taj’el seems to be following this closer than her:: Do you remember any of this being covered at the academy?
Taj’el/T’Fearne/Solana: Response
