((Ward A, Sickbay, Deck 10, USS Ronin))
When Rox was a child, her parents were ambivalent at best. Not surprisingly Rox had been a challenging child, for her parents. Her mother had a go to solution for the problem. She would give Rox a mixture of whisky and honey. It was probably not surprising then that Rox came up with a unique solution to the juvenile invasion of sickbay.
Rox hurried over to grab several hypos. She was certain this was morally and ethically bad, but she was about as fed up as she could be. She dialed up anesthezine. It was naptime. She reached down to the child on her leg and listened for the hiss of the hypo. At once the child fell off, happily dozing.
Rox: ::tossing hypos:: Wyla, La Croix, catch!
Avae: ::she fumbled with the hypo a little but caught it:: Thanks.
De La Croix: If you break that I'll have you over my knee!
As she looked around she realized Ru was near the controls for the wards Privacy fields. They would automatically raise force fields around various parts of the room.
Rox: No don't do that!
She only hoped reverse psychology would work. The fields would isolate the various groups and make it easier to subdue everyone. Thess was moving quickly toward Ru.
Ru: Stop right there or I'll push the button. We'll all see what it does and that can't be good.
The button was pressed and Rox ran into one of the angry force fields, which threw her to the floor. She used the opportunity to sedate an Andorian toddler.
Nelv: Aagh they got me Ru!
Nelv had discovered that he was trapped in the area around a biobed he was standing under. This made him cross, but no amount of kicking could break the invisible field.
Avae: Oh, both of you knock it off. Or would you prefer to stay stuck as you are? We don’t have to help fix you.
De La Croix: Either you two start behaving or we will turn this starship around and put you right back wherever it is you come from! We will tolerate no more shenanigans or ballyhoo from you!
For the moment everyone was immobilized. Rox took a moment to catch her breath even as Nelv continued his tantrum.
Rox: Can either of you get the Privacy Fields down?
Avae: I can try, but then they’ll just get out again. We need to make sure they’re sorted first.
Ru: No sweetheart I can't figure it out but if you want to give me a clue....
Thess found herself shuddering at the entirely inappropriate tone and the deeply salacious wink.
De La Croix: Another word out of you and I will be replicating a bar of soap for you to wash your mouth out with!
Rox: How about the controls for the Alpha Wave inducer. Maybe we could all have a nap.
Nelv: I don't want a nap!!
Avae: I don’t care! There are people you probably know in the next ward dying from radiation sickness and we can’t help them cause we’re in here dealing with you two.
Ru: Hold on Nelv, one of these stupid buttons has to release the fields.
De La Croix: You could slam your fingers against those controls until they were worn down to nubs and you still wouldn't get the fields down you little scoundrels! Now I insist on being released right this instant!
Rox looked around her. She was in the middle of the room and not near any controls whatsoever.
Rox: This is going to be a really embarrassing call to the bridge.
Avae: No, wait. I have an idea. The privacy fields are basically containment fields. We can pump anesthezine gas into them and it’ll knock everyone inside them out for a few hours.
Ru: ::looking to Avae:: Hey!!! That's not very nice of you. Gassing children. I think there is law or something against that.
De La Croix: Frankly I think it's a capital idea. Then they can't object if I were to amputate anything...::She allowed the implication to hang heavily in the air for a few moments::...Out of strict medical necessity, of course.
The idea of gassing children took Rox's idea of drugging them to the next level and Rox was pleased to be in the company of two people that were, evidently, not all that different from her. The small lizard jumping up and down on biobed 4 seemed to disagree.
Nelv: You can't do that! We'll sue you for all you have.
The joke was on him, as Starfleet officers they actually had very little.
Avae: Or we could just beam these two into the isolation chamber. The last plague I was exposed to should have been cleared out of it by now.
Ru: Go ahead and try it. You just try and it and see who will RU - IN your day. ::beat, grinning:: That's right you, I will RU - IN your day.
Rox was not sure why that was funny, but Nelv was laughing so hard he could barely remain standing.
De La Croix: Well I was going to start by amputating your sense of humor but I can see someone has already beaten me to it. By all means Nurse...I don't even care if the isolation chamber is sterile at this point. I can fill out the appropraite death certificates in just a few minutes and, in this rare case, I may even enjoy myself.
oO Wow. Oo
Rox knew La Croix was tough, but she'd not idea how tough. Rox wondered what wine she might enjoy best. She was prepared to spend a lot of resources to keep the woman on her good side.
Avae: Computer. Flood all enabled privacy fields with anesthesia gas, enough to safely render the occupants unconscious for twelve hours. Excluding medical personnel. Authorization Avae Six Two Nine Delta.
Computer: Authorization accepted.
A hissing sound began and a swirl of mist curled down toward the children and medical staff below.
Ru: Nelv!!! ::grabbing his nose:: Don't breathe it in! Hold your breath.
For his part, Nelv put a hand over his nose, but continued to shout, taking gulps of air between each sentence.
Nelv: We have access to the best attorney on Fereginar! ::inhale:: We have a psychologist who can say we're not right in the head! ::inhale:: You guys are going to be in so much trouble!
De La Croix: After they're inert we can get to work on the other patients...and we'll rose them...eventually.
Rox: ::looking at La Croix:: Did you say Roast?
Avae: response
Ru: ::still holding his nose:: Computer, stop gassing us. This is a violation of our.....::beat, getting light headed:: Computer, gassing children for no reason is wrong. You will be deprogrammed.
La Croix scowled angrily, but Rox was too busy watch the now very drowsy Nelv wobble on the biobed. Eventually, he collapsed altogether and lay splayed across the biobed. Heavy snoring was soon emanating from him.
De La Croix: Perhaps we should tunnel our way out? Don't these ships have all those little crawlways in them somewhere? Jeff's tubes or some such? ::She looked around and sighed in profound annoyance:: What a preposterous predicament.
Rox: ::setting down:: Good alliteration boss.
Avae: Response
Ru: Take that you mean ad.......
There were sparks suddenly and a trove of isolinear chips flew across the room. Something was not going to work anymore. Rox brought herself to her knees. She knew the fields would come down soon and the environmental systems would purge the room.
De La Croix: We've got about thirty seconds before we're insensate. Can either of you load a hypo with ADTH in it? That'll counteract the anestezine. There's nothing in here I can use as a stimulant.
Rox: I'm trying.
Avae: response
Rox crawled slowly across the floor. It was lucky that she'd been a heavy drinker in her younger years. Her liver was healthy and her mind used to working in the fog off chemical interference. She got to a drawer and opened it. She pressed the hypo to her shoulder and held it up for Wyla to take. Her metabolism was so robust the Rox doubted the woman even yawned. Already above her she could see the mist clearing.
Rox: Take this to her highness over there.
De La Croix: Need...a...filter...or...patients...will...die...
Rox lay on her back hoping her vision would clear soon. She heard a soft giggling and realized it was La Croix. Maybe there was hope for her yet. Rox couldn't help it and joined in
