((Cockpit, USS Rhine, Jintara Nebula, Alpha Isles))
The Rhine had begun to disturb the dust in the dense nebula, which had left a colourful wake behind her and around her.
Beautiful. Yet a potential hazard.
Lorana: Activating deflectors that should help clear up some of that cloud.
The Rhine’s deflector array began dispersing the swirling particles and reducing the turbulence. The deflectors added a kind of bluish aura around the little runabout, a kind of intangible force that whirled tiny particles around it, casting a strong contrast of sapphires and citrines.
T’Fearne: :: Snapping back to her controls :: Stability improving. Radiation levels holding steady for now.
Alieth: Good, redirect the route to the gravimetric anomalies.
Lorana: Understood.
T’Fearne: Commander, we're nearing the next navigation checkpoint. Proceeding according to the planned route.
McVey: Just a wee moment, Sirs. Particle an' gravity scans indicate th' presence o' a planetary system nearby.
Luxa turned to the human woman with the thick regional accent.
Alieth: Perform a broad-spectrum scan of the area.
Lorana: I'm reading strong indicators that there could be maleconite deposits.
Any: Response
Lyrik: :: Chiming in :: I don't want to get everyone's hopes up too soon. However, according to initial readings, there's a high probability of at least a class E or F planet in the vicinity.
Alieth: Let us take a closer look.
Luxa's eyes brightened as looked out the shuttle window. Planets. Maleconite. The survey findings appeared to be accurate and could yield so much more. Not to mention this being a tactical advantage for the Federation within the Isles.
The Rhine's nose turned to the left, entering an area of higher particle density. For the next few minutes, they couldn't see much through the screens, and even the scanners gave erratic or even contradictory signals. The runabout began to shake, and alarm signals, red and accompanied by a high-pitched beeping sound, began to proliferate across the panels. The vibration became more pronounced, the shields seemed to flicker a couple of times, and the deflectors added their own warning chimes to the concert already sounding inside the small cockpit. The noise became so intense that the small crew were soon unable to hear each other over the rumble and the blaring of alarms.
And suddenly, as suddenly as it had started, everything stopped. The starship suddenly found itself in an open space, a sort of empty pocket in the huge mass of yellow-amber particles and radiation.... except for a pair of young, bright stars, dancing around each other in the slow, eternal dance of stellar bodies.
Alieth: :: with guarded awe:: A newborn star system.
Luxa looked to Alieth and smiled widely. It truly was a marvel. Every cadet in her science classes dreamed of this moment, and here she was one of the first to witness a new star system.
Alieth: Analysis of planetary systems, do any of them have any objects orbiting around them?
Lorana: A planetoid, and two moons. Still in the early stages of formation. One of the planets has a ring around it; there's too much interference for us to get an accurate reading of what it contains.
T’Fearne/Others (optional): Response
Alieth: What about the other star?
Lorana: Much more advanced in it development. It's been enshrined in this nebula. Capable of supporting life :: eye brighten :: Commander, I'm reading raw maleconite deposits on the surface.
T’Fearne/Others (optional): Response
Alieth: We need a report on the atmospheric conditions and the presence of Maleconite in the atmosphere and surface strata. If the last report is favourable, we will descend to take a closer inspection.
Lorana: Absolutely.
T’Fearne/Others (optional): Response
((OOC - as shore leave is wrapping up, let's continue this mini mission after the new mission? We can just pick up where we left off then))
