((Deck 14, Main Engineering, The Pool Table, USS Ronin))

Power was now at 95%. Only a minute or two left before the anti-chroniton particle pulse.

There wasn’t much time left before the pulse. The three officers remained focused on their task, which was simply to monitor. Kelor, for his part, was watching the sensor readouts on his LCARS, which showed an immense concentration of chroniton particles surrounding the Ronin.

Zh'taan: The deflectors will soon emit the anti-chroniton particles around the ship. Perhaps we should already start activating the warp field so that the deflector pulse and the warp field are synchronized. ::He lifts his eyes from the LCARs and turns to the two women, speaking calmly, perhaps a little too calmly:: I’m detecting a massive concentration of chronitons around the ship, and I fear that once the pulse is emitted, the area around us will be filled with chronitons again. But if the warp field forms at the same time the pulse destroys the chronitons, it should have time to stabilize before the chronitons reform around the Ronin.

Dohna: Lt. Morgan, will you get ready to initiate the warp field? I’ll monitor the pulse with Ensign Zh’taan.

Kelor nodded, as if someone were watching him. He stared at his LCARS. Only 2% remained before the pulse, and he began to feel a knot forming in his stomach. He glanced toward T’Alia. She looked just as stressed as he felt.

Morgan: Response

100%. The moment of truth.

Dohna: Emitting particles now.

Zh'taan: I’m initiating a scan of the deflectors. ::Manipulates the LCARS::

He frowned. oO Damn! Oo

He shot a look toward T’Alia, then toward Morgan, and ran a scan toward the front of the ship.

Morgan: Response

Dohna: The emitter is working, but all the anti-chronitons are going straight ahead of the ship. ::beat:: Into the black hole.

Zh'taan: It appears the black hole has moved closer faster than expected. ::He taps commands on the LCARS:: It’s less than 30,000 kilometers away now.

Dohna: Maybe we could rotate the ship?

Morgan: Response

oO Think! Think! Oo

Dohna: Maybe we could rotate the ship?

He tapped frantically on his LCARS. From the outside, the two women might have thought he was doing anything at all, panicking. His breathing could be heard speeding up.

Zh'taan: No! ::He fell silent for several seconds, embarrassed…::

Dohna/Morgan: Response

He regained his composure.

Zh'taan: Sorry… ::He steadies himself:: I’ve analyzed the scans directed at the black hole. It’s approaching faster and faster. But it’s our only way out, if we manage to stabilize the warp toward the black hole.

Dohna/Morgan: Response

Zh'taan: And we must continue emitting anti-chronitons, at least until warp engages. They’ll be drawn in, but the chronitons will be as well. Warp will have to activate at the exact moment the anyons clear the chronitons around the black hole. At that point, we’ll have a window to leave the system. To do that, we must synchronize warp with the black hole at the moment it draws in the chronitons and the anyons.

Dohna/Morgan: Response

Zh'taan: ::He pauses for a few seconds:: Yes, it’s risky, but we’re caught between Sencha radiation and the black hole. That window is our only solution to leave the system.

Dohna/Morgan: Response
