((Bridge, Deck 3, USS Ronin))

Shortrith: I'd say it's worth a shot, but ::turning to Kel:: the choice is yours, sir.

Kel: Do it. Jack get the probe prepped let me know when it's ready to launch.

Kessler: On it Commander. We will daisy chain the subprobes back to us so we get a longer feed and data stream.

O’Connor: Sir, I’d like permission to prep a shuttle, too. I’m not saying we should go in there…yet. Not without way more data. But I’d like to start adding some modifications in case we want to explore that option after we get more info.

Kel: Get started. I hope we don't need it, but it's better to be prepared.

O’Connor: I’m gonna need help for the science team…and Gods help me…I’d like to use Poagie. He pulled a scheme a while back that used chronitons to age some kind of Ferengi barley beetle whiskey. Anyway, he actually has some experience working with chronitons.

Kel: Check in with Wren, see how those other probes came back. Maybe we can learn something.

Shortrith: Go well, sir.

Kel: Let's pause for a moment. We know the region around where the Kurosawa was is strange, but we've made an assumption there.

Kessler: ::turning to Kel:: What are you thinking Commander?

Renaie glanced between the two, not knowing what to say.

Kel: We assumed that the rest of the Ross-580 system was normal. We hadn't even started our survey when the Kurosawa appeared.

Kessler: You're thinking there might be a clue to this in the star system itself?

Shortrith: It's quite possible.

Kel: We don't think there's anyone else out there, but let's see what is there. How many planets? Asteroid belts? Gas clouds?

Kessler: ::staring at his scans:: With long range sensors offline, the distortion field from the anomaly is affecting the short range sensors with us being this close. We will need to reposition the Ronin sir for a more detailed scan of the system.

Shortrith: Wouldn't that also change the risk? I can analyse it if needed.

Kessler: Well, we have two other courses of action we could use. A series of probes launched deeper into the star system or we send out a shuttle to get the detailed scans we need, that would keep the Ronin on station for the other teams.

Shortrith: Each have downsides of their own.

Kel: Probes are the best option. Losing a probe is preferable to losing a shuttle full of people.

Renaie nodded, their thoughts doing circus tricks of analysing risk.

Kessler: Probes can't give you the human factor and reaction time that a shuttle can but a shuttle puts crew in harms way, which at this point is a risk I am willing to take and I think anyone else here is too.

Shortrith: If needed, I can accompany whoever is on the shuttle to be there if any medical emergency arises. I'm willing to put myself at risk if it means to help someone.

oO It's the least I can do. Oo

Kel: I appreciate the sentiment doctor.

The conversation paused as comms chimed up.

Morgan: =/\= Lieutenant Morgan to the bridge =/\=

Renaie felt themself slip from reality for a moment. They heard the information still, but they were only half-paying attention. When the ship finished turning, Renaie slipped back into full-consciousness.

Kel: That's strange, my antennae ache is gone.  Maybe this anomaly has a biological effect as well.

Renaie reached up to their forehead ridges sub-consciously.

Shortrith: I could also observe its affect on people, whether it be good or bad.

Vomek: ::chuckling:: Should I leave or should I probe? Age old question eh, Commander?

Kessler: Response

Shortrith: That's a good point. Both have pros and cons.

Vomek: ::chuckling:: Should I leave or should I probe? Age old question eh, Commander?

Kessler: ::turning back to V'Len:: We have as much data as we can gather from here. Based on our current assessment, a closer look is warranted.

Shortrith: That's a good point. Both have pros and cons.

Kessler: Response

Kel: Alright let's do it. Let's catch up with Ian and see if he's got his modified shuttle ready.

From what Renaie gathered, a probe was being sent out by some other people.

Shortrith: I'll make sure I have a medkit on me.

Kel: Vomek, you have the bridge.

Vomek appeared to give Kel a confused look. Renaie understood wholeheartedly the sentiment behind it.

Kel: I'm the chief science officer, who else should go on a science related expedition?

Shortrith: ::smiling:: You have a point.

Kessler: ::standing:: Commander, I understand your desire to go but I must formally object to leading this away mission and General Order 15 states, No Flag officer shall lead an away team into a hazardous area without armed escort.

Kel: I'm not a flag officer so I don't think that rule applies to me, Jack.

Kessler: ::grinning:: Nor did I think you would, but you are not going without me there at your side.

Shortrith: Nor me.

oO I can't let Kel get in a bad way. Not after what happened to Niac and Raga. Oo

Kel: =/\= Kel to Ensign Wren.  Please meet us in Shuttlebay 1.  We're going on a field trip.

Wren: =/\= Oh! Okay, I’m on my way, sir =/\=

Kessler: Vomek, if anything happens and you need tactical help get Captain Winters up here to handle Tactical for you.

Kel/Vomek: Response

((Deck 09, Shuttlebay 01, USS Ronin))

Renaie followed Kel and Kessler to the shuttlebay, where Wren was waiting. She walked up to them, and Renaie waved hello.

Wren: ::softly:: Did I miss anything?

Shortrith: Not really, we just got here. We're just going to get more scans of the temporal anomaly.

Kessler: Any special equipment aside from the standard you want with us Commander?

Shortrith: I'm happy to grab more scanning equipment and more sophisticated medical gear.

Kel/O'Connor: Response

Kessler: Well personally, I would prefer a larger ship with maybe some Borg enhanced shields and temporal shielding but since we don't seem to have any, I guess this will have to do.

oO What we have is what we have, nothing we can do about it. Oo

Kel/O'Connor: Response

Wren: :: To herself:: At least we’ll have plenty of room… ::Out loud:: I have an Engineering pack with me, is there anything else I need?

Kessler/Kel/Shortrith/O'Connor: response

Wren: Understood, I’ll make sure that’s brought aboard.

Kessler/Kel/Shortrith/O'Connor: response

Before Renaie could speak, or board the shuttle, their commbadge chirped and an extremely pretentious unfamiliar voice came through.

De La Croix: =/\= Sickbay to Doctor...Shortbread. This is Doctor Thessolonia De La Croix. It seems you've forgotten to check in with me. =/\=

oO I AM NOT BREAD, YOU BLOODY SOURDOUGH HOT CROSS BUN. Oo

Shortrith: =/\= It's Doctor Shortrith, and I set up a meeting to check in with you when you first joined the ship. It should have shown up in your notes. =/\=

oO Try to stay calm, don't let her get a rise out of you. Oo

Renaie groaned under their breath and turned and grimaced to the others.

oO This woman… Oo

Kel/Kessler/O'Connor/Wren: Response

De La Croix: =/\= Well try to be a bit more interesting next time and I just might be able to remember it. So what's all this nonsense with the lights? The candy striper you have working down here doesn't know a thing. =/\=

Shortrith: =/\= We're at yellow alert. There is some temporal stuff happening and the usual captain and first officer are dead. ::coldly:: And don't you dare speak about any of the medical staff like that again.=/\=

Renaie paused, a small smirk crossing their face. They gave a knowing look to the others in the room.

Shortrith: =/\= Actually, please meet me in shuttle bay 1. We're going on an expedition and I think your assistance would be appreciated. =/\=

Kel/Kessler/O'Connor/Wren: Response

Renaie rolled their eyes as they heard a scoff over the line.

De La Croix: =/\= Me, on a ship even smaller than this one? I hardly realized such a thing existed. What am I to do, nurse an amoeba back to health? =/\=

Shortrith: =/\= We're conducting scans on the temporal anomaly with a finer-toothed comb than what the probes conduct. ::to Kessler and Kel, still on comms:: I've got that right, yes? =/\=

Kel/Kessler/O'Connor/Wren/De La Croix: Response

Shortrith: =/\= I don't care, Doc. Get to shuttle bay 1 as soon as possible. Shortrith out. =/\=

Kel/Kessler/O'Connor/Wren/De La Croix: Response

Renaie firmly ended the commline before smirking at the others, a glimmer of slight mischief in their eyes. The pretentious Doctor would actually get some field experience.

Shortrith: Well, it looks like we have a volunteer for the trip.

Kel/Kessler/O'Connor/Wren: Response
