Morrow: I’m joking, seriously though, I do have an in with the FCA, who helped us out. Thankfully, it didn’t escalate into a firefight. I had to rerecord my logs several times, as it was a bit complicated.

The captain shook his head and presented a sheepish smile.

Niac:  Sorry Mr. Morrow, I was lost taking something of a stroll...or perhaps a stumble...down memory lane.  And yes, I am glad things didn't escalate further...Mr. Kel's gambit and your very devious use of weaponized litigation made for an unorthodox solution but it just goes to prove an old Terran saying...'if it looks stupid and it works...it's not stupid.'

Niac raised his glass towards Jack, and he returned the gesture.

Morrow:  I’m going to have to keep notes of all these Terran sayings, confusing to say the least.

The glasses clinked together and they drank, the incredible heat and floral bouquet of the beverage somehow deftly balanced right on the edge of palatability.  It was exactly as Armo remembered.  He felt the rush of warmth running down his throat and into his gut a moment later and remembered to voice a small warning with a smile.

Niac:  If we have more than one or two of those, we'll need to beam ourselves to sickbay.  The Captain and the ships JAG officer can't be seen shambling through the hallways...I'm sure you can still quote the relevant regulation.

Morrow: I could, yes, but I’d rather enjoy this drink. And yes, no bouncing from wall to wall. I still have to put in a little work today. Just signing off on our little venture, the FCA loves padd work in triplicate.

Jack took a sip and felt it all the way down to his stomach. The stuff was choice, even if it was a banned substance. It wasn’t like he was going to go out and tell someone. That would be ridiculous.

Niac:  I understand Nurse Queen and Dr. De La Croix have already debased themselves quite comprehensively this leave, probably for the best that we don't reinforce the idea.  For the good of the ship, of course.

Morrow:  ::raising his glass:: For the good of the ship!

He chuckled as he took another small sip, the burn quickly transmuting to pleasure on the way down.

Niac:  On that subject, how have you been finding your time aboard the Ronin?  I know this posting wasn't exactly your idea and I've read enough personnel files to know when someone has fun afoul of the higher ups.  If you don't mind me asking, what happened?  Run the table on a few Admirals at their weekly dom jot game?

Jack chuckled and took another pull from his glass.

Morrow:  I wish it were that easy. I ran afoul of an admiral that shall remain nameless. It’s sorta classified, though you might have clearance for it. Anyways, his kid comes up to Captain's Mass and has violated several rules of the code. He was a commander and ‘was’ doing a lot of heavy lifting. He was brought up on insubordination and public drunkenness. He was at the 602 club, had a few too many black holes, and tried to pick up anything in a skirt. Well, one waitress was the Captain’s daughter.

Jack took another sip of the precious amber liquid. It seems to be getting easier going down.

Niac: Response

Morrow: Right, and so I was chosen to prosecute. The tribunal and I threw the book at him, insubordination, unbecoming, etc., etc. Busted him down to Lieutenant JG, took his security clearance, he was, and I stress was with Starfleet Security. Apparently, he’d been doing this a lot, and he finally messed with the wrong woman and paid the price. Suffice it to say, his Dad, the Admiral, made sure that I was relegated to bases only. And then he got a burr up his rear end and stationed me here.

Niac: Response

Jack nodded and set down his glass. He hated to cut the chat short, but he had some briefs to look over regarding the FCA. It was almost more work than necessary.

Morrow: I hate to cut this convo short, sir, but padd work awaits. I have a couple of briefs I’m working on, HQ wants to know how I finagled the FCA into pulling our cans out of the fire.

Niac: Response

Morrow: Aye, sir, will do.

With that, Jack shut down his workstation and headed out of the cargo bay.
