to USS Ronin – StarBase 118 Star Trek PBEM RPG
((Sickbay, Deck 10, USS Ronin))
After an interminable recitation by the Captain extolling heroism and commitment to duty, Thess had developed a small headache and was massaging her temples when she was summoned, by Beckie no less, to join the remainder of the medical staff in the midst of their hovel.
Beck: Good afternoon, everyone; I want to reiterate the Captain's apology for our unexpected departure, as I know many of you put in some extra time with us here in Sickbay when we were supposed to be relaxing. That is, unfortunately, one of the drawbacks of serving as a Starfleet Medical Officer. That said, I want to thank each and every one of you for your willingness to step up when you're needed; I will be adding a commendation to your files and will make sure you all get something special out of it later on.
Thess rolled her eyes and made absolutely certain Beckie saw it. She considered further expressions of her thoughts when she noticed that Roxanne seemed to be in a positively jubilant mood and instead closed her mouth and narrowed her eyes in suspicion.
Beck: Now. I have no idea what it is we're walking into with these two specialists, but we don't really need to know to do what we do best. Standard procedure applies for now. Wyla, I'd like you to lead the effort to prep Ward A and B for triaging superficial and minor injuries. Rox, I'd like you to prep Ward C for triaging any serious injuries that may require surgery; De La Croix, your primary focus will remain those patients, but if you're available and we need help in Wards A or B, please join us at your discretion.
Rox: Excellent Plan sir. Very good.
The chipper response nearly made her reach for a tricorder but instead she merely arched an eyebrow as she replied.
De La Croix: Yes yes I'll stand ready to soothe the crews various boo-boos. I'm sure a few will be down with headaches soon if they all had to listen to the Captain's...inspiring...little announcement. Speaking of I recall saving a great many lives during that little fiasco yet here I am, unrecognized for my efforts. I'd weep for my lack of a tiny triangular pin for my jacket except it would clash terribly with my scrubs.
Avae: Response
Beck: Let's hope we don't need to utilize Ward D. Any questions?
Rox: What's the capital of Assyria?
Thess let out a bit of a giggle but still found Roxanne's unusually upbeat mood disquieting. Their time together on the planet had been an enriching experience for the both of them and Thess had found herself with a renewed appreciation for the younger woman's sharp edges. Whatever had blunted them deserved immediate investigation.
De La Croix: Oh please dear, Beckie doesn't know his Assyria from a hole in the ground...you'd be better off asking him which way down is. He's got a chance of getting that one right.
Avae: Response
Beck: Alright, folks. Let's show them why we've got the best Medical staff in Starfleet.
Rox: I'll come find you when I'm done Wyla, in case you need help finishing the A and B.
Sensing an opportunity for a conversation, Thess followed along behind.
De La Croix: And I'll join you...I hear the gray wall paneling in Ward A is lovely this time of day. Perhaps while I'm there we can discuss your...buoyant mood.
Avae: Response
Rox scrunched her nose and looked like she'd suddenly realized there was something she very much didn't want to talk about. Which made Thess all the more curious.
Rox: I'm fine. I have good moods…sometimes.
Thess shot a deeply skeptical look towards Nurse Avae, not at all convinced by that explanation.
De La Croix: I had assumed as much dear but this....whatever this is that you're doing...it's unsettling. Are you feeling alright? Did you sneak some of that delicious champagne aboard by chance? If so...shame on you for not sharing!
She paused and looked again towards Nurse Avae.
De La Croix: What do you think? Should we declare some sort of medical emergency? Has our dear Roxanne been replaced by one of those dastardly changlings that seem to pop up every few years to cause a ruckus?
Avae: Response
Rox: So any rumors about what's happening. Whatever it is must be damn important.
Thess snorted a small laugh and shook her head.
De La Croix: Oh no no, you're not changing the subject that easily. Something is going on here and I...we...want to know what it is. ::A sudden flash of intuition made her eyes widen:: Or who it is! Otherwise we may just have to start scanning you for brain parasites.
Avae/Rox: Response
Thess gasped with all the faux drama of a classically trained thespian and placed the back of her hand to her mouth in shock.
De La Croix: Roxanne! All that time we spent together in prison and I had no idea you had a social life beyond the occasional bit of public larceny. Do tell! As Beckie pointed out...we're not going anywhere for a while. And you know as well as I do that our little bandage stand here is more than prepared for the odd scrape or partial disintegration. Or is there perhaps some reason you've been keeping this little secret?
Avae/Rox: Response
