((OOC: For the moment I'm hand waving explanations of how exactly T'Fearne has been returned to her normal state after the run in with the temporal shear and being de-aged. She has been returned to her normal state now.)) ((Armory, Security Complex, Deck 11, USS Ronin))

Reaching into one of the weapons lockers, T’Fearne inhaled deeply, the familiar scent of machine oil, sterilised duranium, and faint ozone from recently cycled phaser cells. She placed the cleaning and calibration equipment back into the locker along with her personal weapons and gear.

The medical team had assured her that the chronometric corrections had restored her full biological age. Still, time was a delicate thing. Occasionally she caught herself wondering if some of her time had been left behind… or perhaps left out. Her slanted brows creased together as she shook the thoughts away.

She closed the locker, rolled one shoulder experimentally, feeling the familiar power return to the movement. A faint, satisfied smile touched her lips. Things felt right again.

((Security Complex, Deck 11, USS Ronin))

Having finished with the cleaning and checks she had completed on her typical weapons and gear, T’Fearne stepped out of the armory, PADD in hand, headed through the security complex to a work station. She intended to file her report for the shift and sign off for her turn of shoreleave. She had friends to meet and a whole new world to explore as the Ronin orbited Lolagi IV.

oO And knowing the Ronin crew, they will need someone to watch their backs lest they get into too much mischief. Oo

It was a hypocritical thought that she swiftly dismissed as she was just as likely to stumble into…mis-adventure as any member of the crew.

Kessler saved her from her internal debate as he called out to her. Walking towards her with an unfamiliar ensign in tow. The ensign, in the gold jacket of security, had the look of one who was soaking up the maximum amount of information possible and taking things very seriously. She came to a stop and adopted an at ease stance, PADD clasped behind her back, knowing that the Chief likely didn’t want or need her to come to attention in this situation.

Kessler: Lieutenant T'Fearne, I'd like to introduce you to our newest team member ::turning and gesturing to Ryen:: this is Ensign Jace Ryen. ::nodding to Ryen:: Ensign, this is Lieutenant T'Fearne Elaazni.

That explained the look. A new officer assigned to the department, straight out of the academy by the look of him. Her sharp, dark gaze picked up the details of the slanted brow and point tipped ears. A Vulcanoid, like herself.

Her half Betazoid senses picked up the brief spark of curiosity flowing from him as he greeted her with a professional nod.

Ryen:  Lieutenant.  It is a pleasure to meet you.

That was very interesting. If he had been full Vulcan she would not have expected the curiosity or the nod, but a raised hand and split fingered greeting of the ta’al. If he spoke of meeting people as a "pleasure" then perhaps, like her, he claimed more than one world in his heritage.

T'Fearne: ::returning the nod:: Ensign Ryen. Welcome aboard the Ronin. ::glancing at Kessler, brow raised:: A new member of the security division? Does he know yet the difficulty of the task he has been assigned to as security on a starship in the Alpha Isles?

Kessler: response

She nodded seriously, hands still clasped behind her back, but a glint of amusement sparked in her eye. The new ensign was probably in for a shock, but he looked to be of stern stuff. She, Kessler, Deacon and the other security personnel and the crew in general would welcome him to life on the frontier. She had every hope he would land on his feet here and that his mind would adapt swiftly. She would have to look at his file as soon as she could.

He turned to her with an inquiry.

Ryen: Lieutenant, have you always been interested in Security?  I would love to hear your insights on what initially drew you to the field.

Now that brought up some interesting memories. Some pleasant and some less so. When had she known she wanted to protect others while exploring the quadrant?

She paused for a moment as a sharp memory rose of a hot, pungent jungle, people running, screams, smoke and phaser fire. Her father’s hand losing grip on her tiny one and a Cardassian soldier forcing him to his knees in a clearing, a weapon pointed at his back. The shouts of triumph as the Betazoid Insurgents took the Dominion soldiers down and drew her family to safety. She blinked rapidly for a moment to clear the memory, but didn’t let any emotion cross her face at that moment. It was just an old memory, it couldn’t hurt her.

T'Fearne: Yes, ensign. I think perhaps I have been heading for this life since I was a child. Wanting to protect others while we explore the quadrant, rendering aid when we are called. For a while I entertained the possibility of a career in competitive fencing. I briefly trained in the Betazed Peacekeeper academy as a shuttle pilot and personal protection to Betazoid officials, but I found my way to Starfleet Academy and from there to the Ronin and the Alpha Isles.

oO …And I’m very happy here. Oo

She left the thought and her contentment unsaid, paused for a moment and re-set herself with a breath in through her nose.

T'Fearne: What about you both? Chief, you told me when we first met that friendship brought you here. But what led you to Security and Tactical? And Ensign Ryen, why is this direction, of all those offered at the academy?

Kessler/Ryen: response

She watched them both, unconsciously checking for truth or deception in their replies. With Jace Ryen, his path here would soon be revealed by his choices. She cast a side-long look at Jack. She had nosily snooped through as much of his public file as she could access when he had come aboard. But she only knew the basics of what had been reported before his transfer.

T'Fearne: Already you have made Chief Kessler's job easier by coming to us. I’m afraid he had to hunt me down with a shuttle on a mountain cliff, planet side on Proxima Sigma when he joined the Ronin’s security department as Chief of SEC/TAC and wanted to give me an assignment. ::gesturing  with her PADD as though presenting the ensign:: You have presented yourself ready for any assignments the Chief may have. You will do well here.

Kessler/Ryen: response

T'Fearne: I only interrogated you because you had not verified your identity sufficiently to prove to me you were not an imposter at the time, but Captain Winters vouched for you and she seemed trustworthy.

The Vulcazoid’s subtle sense of humour, poking at Kessler was both a sign that she was feeling more herself, recovering from the exotic radiation she had been exposed on the recent mission in the Ross 580 system, and a test to see what this promising new ensign would do. One could tell a lot about a Vulcanoid by their reaction or lack thereof to humour.

Kessler/Ryen: response
