((CMO's Office, Sickbay, Deck 10, USS Ronin))

Shortrith: Believe me, it's on it's way.

Renaie smiled as Doctor Beck's cat crawled out of his duffle bag that he'd placed on the couch.

oO Hi kitty. Oo

Beck: How do you think you did, Doc?

Shortrith: Nobody on our teams died, so that's a good thing, I suppose. I tried to keep people from killing each other, ya know, as one does. I… I think I did okay.

Smiling slightly, he nodded again before crossing around behind the desk and leaning a hand against the headrest.

Beck: Are you anxious to get back to Counseling?

Shortrith: I tried to balance both being ACMO and counselling as best I could, so I suppose so, why do you ask?

Beck: If you're interested, I would be happy to offer some cross-training for you. You've already proven you can manage things when necessary, so I figure it wouldn't hurt to let you put in some hours in Sickbay when you're done with your day. ::raising a hand:: But I don't need an answer right away - just floating the idea.

Renaie's eyes widened and a small smile crossed their face.

Shortrith: May I ask what you mean by cross-training?

Beck: Exactly what it sounds like. I know you already put in a lot of hours in Sickbay on the Astraeus before swapping hats to become Counselor, so I don't need to worry about teaching you the basics. But I can provide a lot of opportunity to handle things you probably never got the chance to before, and then some. There's a lot more to being a Medical officer than just healing the sick when they wander into Sickbay.

Taking a moment to consider, the Klingon made eye contact with the CMO and nodded.

Shortrith: I'm interested.

Beck: Excellent. Consider yourself hired.

Shortrith: Any chance you could elaborate?

Beck: Well, that depends greatly on what exactly you would be interested in learning. There are a lot of different avenues. You could stay focused on just patient diagnosis and treatment, or you could expand to something more complex like surgery.

Letting out a loose chuckle, Renaie smirked.

oO One of my main specialties is general surgery and the other is diagnoses… Oo

Shortrith: ::light-heartedly:: I've done some surgery and diagnoses, I could always sharpen my focus…

They drifted off with a smile.

Beck: Optionally, you could focus on a specific part of the anatomy and try to become something of a specialist - like me, my primary focus has always been neuro, but my skills cover a wider range than that. Being a Counselor, though, that might end up taking more of your time than you want. Still worth considering.

Shortrith: I'll probably have to mull over the specifics, but I'm happy to finesse my medical skills.

Beck: There's also always the research track. That leans a little more towards Science in some cases, depending on what it is you're wanting to research, but the work can be good and fulfilling. That's some of what I've been doing with Division 14. ::a beat:: Anything sound good?

Shortrith: I did do a little bit of research when I had some spare time on the Astraeus… ::they let out a dry, slightly sad laugh:: The only downside is they all sound good.

Beck: Response

Shortrith: Maybe finessing my surgical skills?

Renaie had a small wave of hope and optimism bloom inside them.

Beck: Response

Renaie offered a solid hand to shake, smiling.

Shortrith: You've got me sold.

Beck: Response
