As soon as the Ronin got in range of the creature, if you could call it that, it caused power surges all over the old Akira Class ship. Rachel was pretty sure she heard the old gal groan. The Ronin was old and had an attitude at times, though it had caused problems in the past when trying to install the latest technology, deepening what it was.
When the ship was getting refit for the second time, it wouldn’t allow the newest LCARS update, which would have brought them online with the rest of the fleet. But after what happened with all the ships linked, which were too old for that, they didn’t get caught up in the Frontier Day excitement, though they did have a changeling aboard who failed miserably when they tried to sabotage the ship.
It was exciting; nothing this exciting had ever happened at the shipyards. The most excitement at the ‘yard’ was taking ships out for a test spin when it came to testing the warp drive. She usually got to be on the bridge for that, but here, she’d been on the bridge twice. She hadn’t been put on the bridge rotation yet, which didn’t bother her..much.
While TK, the Chief, and Ensign Nakada worked over at the Pool Table, Rachel and Wren were at the control panel in front of the warp core. It was a terminal big enough for three people, so there was plenty of room, she hadn’t worked with Delphine much if at all yet, so this was perfect. She wanted to know more about her bug thing, but they had work to do.
Morgan: So, how do we want to tackle this, Ensign?
Rachel typed her command codes into the console to bring her side of the LCARS online. She wasn’t sure what they could actually do to reinforce the warp core and coils from breaking under the strain, thus leaving them dead in the water.
Wren: Response
As Wren was talking, the power took another dip, this time leaving them in the dark for a few seconds before the backups came online, though she noticed the transition over from primary to secondary took longer than it should.
Morgan: Well (beat) that’s not helpful. The backups took most likely two seconds longer than it should have to come on at the loss of main power. It’s supposed to be seamless.
Rachel was a bit baffled by it all, but there had to be a reason for it to happen as it did. And zero of this was a problem before they got in range of the space thing.
Wren: Response
Morgan: You’re right, let's start there and see where it leads us. Hopefully, the bridge can explain what’s going on.
