((Lua Pele Beachside Bar, Maklau Beach, Risa))
Yalu: ::to MacKenzie, saluting jauntily:: Over to you, Commander.
MacKenzie: ::flatly:: Thank you for that, Commander.
...and then that happened.
Genkos had taken his seat, but the Captain remained standing. Aine was expecting some closing remarks.
Nicholotti: It's been a rough few weeks, but I want everyone to know just how well you have all done. With the inquiry near its conclusion, you will all find new orders making their way to you soon. But first...
Nicholotti: Lieutenant Commander Adea, if you would?
Her eyebrows shot up. Was this what she thought it was?
Nicholotti: There were a lot of things about this past mission that went wrong. We're dealing with them, we're coping as we do - as a family. But at the same time, there were a lot of things that went right. Things go right when everything goes sideways when there are good leaders in place. When those leaders are looking out for their crew, and are making those hard decisions in a manner consistent with the best traditions of Starfleet, you end up saving a crew.
There was a brief, reflective pause.
Nicholotti: This job doesn't come with a guarantee that you'll always win, but that doesn't mean you've made the wrong choices. On the contrary, we are living proof that you made the right ones.
Kali pulled out a small box, which definitely meant what she thought it meant.
Nicholotti: Genkos Adea, it is with pride and honor that I hereby promote you to the rank of commander, and bestow upon you all of the rights and responsibilities that come with said rank. You've more than earned it and we know that you will continue to be the leader that we all have come to rely on.
Nicholotti: Ladies and gentlemen, Commander Adea.
Aine clapped for the Doctor. He deserved it. What she told him earlier, about doing the right thing, making the right decision, wasn't just lip service. She felt it with every fiber of her being. And this, this was the perfect confirmation for him to know he had what it takes to make those tough calls.
Morgan: Hear, hear!
Adea/Any: Responses
MacKenzie: Alright, everyone. Finish your meals and wrap up whatever business you have here. The Columbia will be here for us in just a few hours.
Sherlock: oOThe Columbia? Is that where we're going!?!Oo
Silveira: For those that still have room, I got some desserts.
Any: response
Sil had disappeared as the rest of the table began to chit chat and mingle. But he soon returned with a desert cart.
Silveira: So we have Ice cream filled Profiteroles covered in chocolate, and Camel Drool, a traditional portuguese cream dessert made of eggs and condensed milk. I hope you all enjoy it, but I have something made to someone very special.
Any: response
He picked up the covered plates and headed to his side of the table. He glanced at Aine but quickly turned his attention towards Meidra, setting down a rather large plate.
With a huge smile he lifted the cover and revealed a Chocolate Ripple Cheesecake.
He bowed to Sir and tilted his head.
Silveira: My dear Sir, you have outdone your work as a Counselor, proving yet again how brilliant you are. I made this just for you. Please consider it as an appreciation.
Sirin: response
Silveira: I made enough for you to share with someone. Again Sir, thank you.
Sirin: response
Next he set a small plate with two Brigadiers in front of her.
Silveira: Lieutenant these are called Brigadeiros, Brigadiers. It's a chocolate like truffle. For such a small sweet it is very tasty. Consider it a...
Sherlock: oOWhat's he saying with the small plate? Does he think I'm fat!Oo
She quickly moved on from the self serving thought. She knew that wasn't the case, it was just those little pangs of anger that keep popping up trying to reinterpret every little action.
Silveira: Consider it what you wish. And please don’t feel obliged to eat them.
Sherlock: Thank you, Sil.
A small peace offering of her own, the slight change in address. She couldn't keep holding onto the anger, to the past. She, like everyone and time itself, would need to move forward.
As the hours wore on, moving closer to the time they would depart for their new home. The crew mingled, and talked. Congratulations were exchanged. Jokes told. Things seemed to be moving right again, but the memories would never fade. She'd made sure she hunted everyone down to make sure they joined in her own family tradition, one she hoped they wouldn't have to do anytime soon. Eventually, the time came for her to depart and gather what little she had before they were speeded away from the pleasure planet.
