Nicholotti: What are your thoughts?
Kali looked to her closest officers and confidants for their opinions on the final 'elephant' in the room related to the Resolution. While she leaned on the desk, Mac tossed the padd next to her and leaned back in the chair she was in.
MacKenzie: Was the destruction of the ship his fault? No, I really don’t think so. Does the man have some serious issues he needs to work out? Yes. Do his actions here make me distrust him as an officer? Also yes.
Which was a heavy, heavy statement. Kali understood, but realized the weight such a thing carried and wondered if the man would be able to overcome that, and how much time it might take.
Adea: Agreed. The Resolution’s destruction can’t be laid at Vitor’s door, but even so, there was no need for him to bite Wyke. It was a savage attack.
Also correct, in Kali's eyes, but then again, she was not there. Still, she trusted Genkos completely, so she might as well have been.
Nicholotti: He needs to realize a few things. ::She paused a moment.:: Why do you really think he did it?
MacKenzie: Temporary insanity? A response to a physical and emotional threat so primal that any sense of training he had went out the window? I can’t fathom… And I’ve been through a lot.
Adea: Only he can answer that, and from what I hear, I don’t think he even knows.
Also a dangerous thought. Starfleet officers were often called to places and events that required a level of control and command which did not exist elsewhere. Even the simple act of exploration required something...beyond.
MacKenzie: Well that certainly doesn’t bring me any comfort. What’s to stop it from happening again? I certainly don’t want to be left alone with the guy.
Nicholotti: He very much has built himself quite the negative reputation now. And that's before any formal action taken against him.
So they all agreed, but that didn't take them where they needed to be. What they needed was an idea of what to do next.
Adea: So what do we do? Someone should talk to him. ::he looked over at Addison:: Would you like that, um, pleasure?
Kali watched with a mild grin at her first officer dramatically accepted the duty that was already her own, making a show of finding it on a padd and then accepting it with mock amusement.
MacKenzie: Yes, I do believe this falls under the duties and expectations of the ship’s first officer. As far as I know, that would still be me.
Raising an eyebrow, Kali nodded. Their orders hadn't given the red-head a boat of her own yet, thought Kali knew that one day that would come to pass. Thankfully for her and the crew, that day was not today.
Nicholotti: Despite our not actually having the ship yet, it would.
The orders would go into effect soon, but as of right that second, they were all just drifting there on 224. A glance on the screen in the station commander's office told the tale of the ships outside in the docking ring though, and Kali knew that one of them was theirs.
MacKenzie: So, what kind of disciplinary action are we talking about here?
Nicholotti: Based on the report and on everything I have seen or heard, I'd like to think that he has learned something from this. I don't believe another demotion will help the situation either. A formal letter of reprimand, however, and a warning.
Kali narrowed her eyes at her first officer as if to convey the kind of warning she meant. It wasn't to be the type you conveyed over coffee, a slap on the wrist and then released. No, this was the kind of warning that you got one of, before catastrophic actions were taken. Further conduct unbecommming would result in more than a demotion.
It would be the absolute end of his career.
Adea: Responses
The woman in front of her nodded.
MacKenzie: And what kind of expectations do you want me to make sure I lay out for him going forward?
Nicholotti: How about we start with abiding by the traditions and best practices bestowed upon him by wearing that uniform.
The raven-haired command officer frowned ever so slightly. That was ambiguous, but made sense.
Adea: Responses
Nicholotti: And he needs to meet for regular counseling sessions, and set up a plan for overcoming whatever that moment was. Primal instinct, a bad reaction, whatever. It isn't something we need to see from an officer and it needs to be something we never have to worry about again.
MacKenzie/Adea: Responses?
Kali nodded and stood.
Nicholotti: Very well. Make ready for departure then. We leave within the next day.
Tapping the padd next to her, Kali indicated she was just waiting for the final orders from command to come through. They knew where they were going, but what would they be doing...? Hopefully it was something that involved less fighting and more of something else entirely. Perhaps their new boat wouldn't attract trouble quite in the manner that their old one did.
Perhaps.
MacKenzie/Adea: Responses?
