((Transporter Room, USS Resolution))
MacKenzie: Nice of you to join us, Ensign. I don’t suppose you brought a medkit, by chance?
Sirin: Of course, Commander.
The counselor held up the kit briefly, and Addison nodded her approval.
MacKenzie: ::nodding curtly:: How’s Doctor Adea?
Sirin: He appears to be able to work with his prosthetic leg turned off.
Addison nodded, glad to hear that her medical colleague was on the up-and-up. Helpful, considering they weren’t exactly sure what kind of situation they’d be beaming into.
She turned to face their security officer.
MacKenzie: Lieutenant, what do you think about bringing phaser rifles? I don’t was to risk the potential to be seen as another occupational force. With 200 Klingons on the planet, I’m sure the Da’al are already feeling overwhelmed. …but I don’t want to be caught with our pants down, either. 4 on 200 isn’t exactly a fair fight…
Delri’ise: Response
Addison nodded. The decision not to beam down too heavily armed was prudent.
MacKenzie: Ensign Zicv, we don’t know very much about the Da’al or their world. While our primary mission is to figure out what the Klingons are up to, we should also look at this as a prime opportunity for scientific study.
Zicv: Must grateful for this opportunity, Commander. ::grabbing her tricorder:: I hope to be able to make some readings while on planetside.
She offered a slight smirk.
MacKenzie: I thought you might enjoy the opportunity.
Turning to the rest of the group, she tugged on her jacket. It was not lost on her that the team assembled consisted of all women – something the Klingons surely would not respect – but these women were some of the best, well-trained officers in all of Starfleet.
MacKenzie: For now, we’ll wait until we get confirmation from the Captain. We certainly don’t want to be seen as uninvited guests. Does anyone have any questions?
Sirin: Many. But they cannot be answered until we go down to the planet.
Zicv: I have one that could be answered now. ::joking countenance::
Sirin: Response
Zicv: Are you a doctor or a counselor? ::tilting her head::
Sirin/Delri’ise: Responses
Addison stifled a small smirk at the counselor-turned-nurse’s quip.
Zicv: I see! ::smiling:: Good to know.
Sirin/Delri’ise: Responses
After a brief exchange, the transporter operator on duty spoke up.
Alciv: Commander MacKenzie, we’ve received clearance from the bridge to beam your team down.
Addison nodded to the others as they approached the transporter platform. After checking to make sure everyone was in position, she nodded to Alciv.
MacKenzie: Here we go…
And the team disappeared in a familiar blue shimmer.
((Outside the Da’al Government Complex))
As the away team rematerialized on the surface just outside the Da’al’s government complex, Addison took a moment to make a visual assessment. The light on the planet seemed brighter than she was used to, and it was certainly warmer and more humid than most Terran’s would find comfortable. Nearby, a large park with foliage befitting of the arid climate, and a playground. The sign above it read “Heroes Park.”
Just beyond the park, a massive clearing.
As MacKenzie turned to get a look at the gates to the complex, she was struck by how plain it all looked. The gate itself appeared to be made of concrete or a similar material, as were the buildings themselves. The outsides of the buildings bore no fancy designs or interesting architecture. Something in the back of MacKenzie’s brain thought it was odd that the Klingons would choose such a place for an incursion, given the overt lack of apparent value.
Speaking of which, where were the Klingons?
As she turned to face her team, her commbadge beeped.
Nicholotti: =/\= Commander MacKenzie, prepare for the Resolution near your mark. It may balance the game a bit on the planet while I meet our friends above for a dinner date. =/\=
A dinner date? Surely the Captain was joking…
MacKenzie: ::wryly:: =/\= There’s a large clearing just beyond the park. You should be able to land the Resolution there. (beat) And here, I thought we were going to get the exciting mission while you got stuck up there babysitting the Klingons. =/\=
Nicholotti: =/\= I look forward to swapping stories when it’s all said and done. Take care down there.=/\=
MacKenzie: =/\= You do the same. MacKenzie out. =/\=
Addison took a deep breath and exhaled as she once again turned to face her team.
MacKenzie: Alright, initial impressions?
Sirin/Delri’ise/Zacv: Responses
MacKenzie: Keep your eyes peeled. I’m sure this isn’t going to be as easy as it appears… ::muttering:: It never is. ::clearing her throat:: Our point of contact is the Military Advisor, Zeneth.
