((En route to Deep Space 224))

The science department on Resolution was very small, but at least it had specialized personnel to carry out the tasks. Back on Arrow that was not the case and Jana had to work with operations and engineering personal on multiple occasions. From this perspective, she had an improvement.

The science crew was gathered around the worktable awaiting the last results of the planetary model set up for studying for Meranuge IV, the Da’al homeworld. Jana was investigating the unusual levels of UV on the stratosphere and comparing it with the data from other worlds with class F-type of a star. The preliminary results were not promising and it was a consensus that a model fed with the last geological and atmospheric survey data would help a lot. And so they did with the help of Lieutenant Farrel.

The basic conundrum was the presence of trilithium resin molecules in a gaseous state. There was no precedent for that and initial reports did not claim that the planet had trilithium reserves of any type. It was not certain however that the trilithium molecules were responsible for the out-of-chart chemical reaction on the atmosphere not if the UV radiation had any role on that. That was the reason for that investigation. Higher concentrations of that gas could prove to be a threat to Da'al people since it was a very toxic element, capable of making an entire planet uninhabitable if used as a weapon.

The chief scientist was a female Ktarian who helped the Melthusian to feel at home from day one. She was a very skilled scientist but more inclined to bureaucratic rather than investigative work. Jana was the complete opposite, thrilled by the possibility of new discoveries and terrible with paperwork. The two of them seemed to work along very well, which allowed the new Ensign to focus on the investigative work and forget about the recent events of her life.

Jana: Lieutenant! ::staring at Farrel:: We still have few minutes before the results come up, but I´m curious…

Farrel: response

Jana: I didn´t have huge participation on the last mission… but did you call it a success or a total failure?

Farrel: response

Jana: I don´t know. ::bored:: It sounded to me a bit ridiculous to fight among each other for land. Heritage. Power. It is a little childish, isn´t it?

Farrel: response

Anyone: response
