(( Bridge, Deck 1, USS 'Oumuamua ))
Herrick’s knees buckled as he was overwhelmed by another wave of emotion, one of his knees connecting with the console in front of him. The pain muted by an onslaught of elation. However, halfway across the bridge, it seemed like the most senior officer’s mindset had been pushed in opposite direction.
V'Airu: =/\= I, ah, I'm sorry to hear that. =/\=
It hadn’t sounded like the confident Commodore of just a few
moments ago, or the caring individual he met in the arboretum moments after
boarding the ‘Oumuamua. Ripples of concern edged into the elation, and the doctor
was also picking up on it over the comm.
Kel: =/\= Are you feeling o.k.? You seem a bit off? (beat) Nevermind.
How can we assist? =/\=
Josh watched V’Airu geet up uneasily, it didn’t look natural. Visually, it was
clear something was off.
V'Airu: (flat) I'm not feeling well. I am relieving myself of duty.
Herrick: oO What?! Oo
His eyes grew, he had stopped looking at his console entirely. Strong
surprise irradiated inside him, but this time it wasn’t caused by the nebula.
The next most senior officer dug further at the last comment.
Katsim: Commodore? What’s wrong?
Solari: Responses
Kel / Rox: =/\= Responses =/\=
V'Airu: (flat) Ship is yours. (beat, even more quietly) Send help.
Please.
Herrick couldn’t help but stare as the Commodore rose from the centre chair and
into her ready room. The shock he felt wasn’t at the notion that Katsim was
leading the ship, but how abrupt the shift had been. His eyes rested on the
empty chair, and then up to the science officer.
Katsim: M…me?
Solari: Responses
Kel / Rox: =/\= Responses =/\=
Herrick watched as Katsim processed the situation. He thought about the current
situation. Two away teams off the ship, unknown danger, and now she led over
300 souls. He didn’t envy her and watched as she steeled herself against the
situation.
Katsim: All…all right. Herrick, keep tabs on engineering and continue to report progress on this idea you have. Um…Doctor Kel…
The engineer nodded and turned back to his console. He counted
himself lucky that he hadn’t missed any critical readings as he watched the
scene on the bridge unfold.
Katsim: =/\=Doctor Kel, please report to the bridge as soon as you
arrive. Crewman Rox, head to sickbay.=/\=
Kel / Rox: =/\= Responses =/\=
Katsim: Ensign Solari, the commodore seemed acutely affected by the
most recent emotional wave. Are there any long term ill effects if we
continue to experience these?
Solari: Responses
Herrick: It will still be some time before the resonance burst could be ready to deploy…
He was cut off by an alert from the computer…
Herrick: Sir, we appear to be receiving a transmission from the… Comerchumaba?
He wasn’t sure he had pronounced it right, and as he tried to access the contents of the message, he recognized that it was Federation encoded.
Herrick: Actually, a correction there, it’s come from York…. One-way only… (pause) the message is a bit garbled, it looks like they had to McGyver it. From what I can read out, it looks like they’ve made contact with the Esh-o, some folks are also suffering some effects but I can’t tell if it’s related to the nebula.
The engineer continued to dance his fingers around the console trying to clean up the message.
Herrick: And… they’re unable to establish 2-way comms with us. oO That part was likely unnecessary Oo. Your orders, sir?
Katsim: Response
