((Transport Heading to Bajor))

From a combination of his counselling with Salo and his own self-coaching, Josh had decided that he needed a more physical disconnect — both to give him breathing room, and to let his subconscious chip away at things without him actively stressing too much. He wanted to get away from it all, and while he hadn’t been to DS9, he felt like he needed to be further away.

So, after his last duty shift, he impulsively decided to head down to Bajor. It would be a first for him. He had heard that there was a festival, of which the grandest was in the planet’s capital Ashalla, and the most revered was in B’hala, the holy city. Since he wasn’t too sure of all the religious customs, he elected for Ashalla.

His dad had sent him a few more papers for light reading, which had made the ride fly by faster. He always had a knack for finding odd titles, but good reads. The two he’d brought with him were titled: ‘The Artifact: Practical Applications for Non-Drone Learners’ and ‘Not Your Grandpa’s Processor: An Insight to the Upcoming M47’.

As the shuttle descended and the transport doors opened into the terminal, it was clear to see that this was quite the buzzing hive. He shook his head, that borg paper had gotten to him. It was packed with travellers unloading; and interestingly, not many departing. He was comfortable in the anonymity crowds brought and weaved his way through to the exit.

He wasn’t sure what Bajor was like on a normal day, but the thoroughfares were all lined up with stalls selling scrolls, apparently to burn all your problems away. He wore a slightly amused smile at the notion that he might end up buying the whole stall’s inventory. He pressed on, gathering the sights, and smelling the pleasant aroma of burning Bateret leaves.

As he looked off into the distance, he realized that he saw a familiar face, and then another. The Intelligence Officer, with whom he’d only made eye contact during Kel and Corelli’s going away video, and Lieutenant Sherlock. He reflected on his interaction with Shevon and realized that he had met Sherlock just one time before at the same event.

((OOC: For Josh to slip in here, I think it makes the most sense after Aine shared a bit more privately with Avander. So I left those tags out; just a heads up to Brent and any others joining in 😊)

Josh wasn’t quite sure exactly if and how he’d ‘interrupt’ the duo, but today was about impulse and not ‘staying stuck’ so he pushed through the crowd to meet them at a small altar. This seemed more government sponsored than the stalls, with a stack of papers, writing tools, and what he assumed was a ‘burning bowl’ where you would place your scrolls.

Herrick: Hello… (a bit awkwardly) Lieutenants.  Burning anything good?

He mentally smacked himself in the head. If he had any misperceptions on his ability to small talk with senior officers, this confirmed that they were non-existent.

Promontory/Sherlock/Any: Response

He hadn’t really known them before now, and it was a rather personal question in retrospect, so he had appreciated that they shared as much as they did.

Herrick: (half jokingly) Many! To be honest, being deep in space I think makes you grow in ways that you never thought possible. And… inter-ship dynamics.

Promontory/Sherlock/Any: Response

He took the pen offered and wrote a bit down before looking up.

Herrick: 1 scroll for all my problems, or 1 scroll per problem?

He wasn’t sure how the custom worked, and while he wasn’t exactly superstitious, the fact that the prophets did exist (even if they were wormhole aliens) and the beings they just encountered on Alpha Brenkelvi II, he chose not to take any chances.

Promontory/Sherlock/Any: Response

He took a few moments to write out his problems:

Rough waters with Nilsen and Kovacs

Fear that he couldn’t fill up to Corelli’s shoes

Regret over what happened to Commander Voss

Then, he placed it in the fire and watched as it lit up immediately to ash. He took a moment to mentally reset and looked back up to the officers.

Promontory/Sherlock/Any: Response

Herrick: I came here on my own — I’d appreciate that. Less risk of getting kidnapped.
