((Grove of Trees above Glyrshar Canyon, Bajor))

The no-longer-on-holiday officers were now sufficiently armed and prepared to mount their rescue operation. Even Aine, despite her green dress, looked ready for anything.

Unfortunately, some sort of damping field in the area was preventing communications and sensors from getting a clear reading. The trio had decided to stick together to find Peri and then find some way out of the interference zone.

Avander activated the ocular enhancers and stared through them to the ridges in the distance. Josh did something with his tricorders that seemed to clear up some of the interference that had been downgrading the resolution on the enhanced lenses. As Avander fiddled with a few adjustments on the lenses and boosted the magnification, he could suddenly see distant objects much more clearly.

Promontory: That’s better. (beat) But I still don’t see… Oh! There! I think that’s a Bajoran on the far side of the ridge.

He stuck his finger out in the direction he saw the movement and offered up the ocular enhancers. But Aine wasted no time in springing into action.

Sherlock: Then that's where we go. On me.

They moved as one towards the distant figure through a faint trail that wound through the bush until Aine stopped and motioned to the others.

Sherlock: Move up on either side of the trail, keep cover near the bushes. We need to get a positive ID.

Herrick: Aye Lieutenant.

Promontory: If they’re not in a Starfleet uniform, I’m going to consider them hostile.

Avander unholstered his rifle and turned back to Aine. She wasn’t in a uniform, but upon reflection, his assessment stood.

Sherlock: If it's Peri, we get her and fall back. If it's someone else, well, don't shoot first, but if you need to shoot, don't miss. We don't have any back-up out here.

Promontory: Commander Katsim knows better than to be out in a dangerous environment without proper support. (beat) My money’s on foul play.

They continued through the bush and slight coverage by the path until an ununiformed figure was clearly in sight.

Sherlock: (calling out) Stop! Starfleet Security, identify yourself!

The figure’s answer was a spat of blaster fire that, fortunately, wildly missed its mark. Aine dove out of the line of sight as Josh let out his own wild shot in the general direction of their attacker.

Herrick: Damn!

Avander peered through his rifle’s scope and gave the trigger a short squeeze. While the beam shot true, their assailant was now on the move and all that the phaser shot did was explode a few rocks.

Promontory: He’s on the run!

Sherlock: Move! Get across the river and flank him! I've got you covered!

The two uniformed officers didn’t need to be told twice. At a dead run of their own, they quickly closed the distance between themselves and the being who was now crouched behind a large rock. Aine’s suppressing fire ensured he did not get any further.

Tuv (goon): ::turning to see Avander, raising both his voice and weapon:: You and that abomination are going to pay!

oO Abomination!? Does he mean Peri? Oo Perhaps the Bajoran had objections to a Cardassian-Bajoran hybrid. Before Avander could respond—in word or in action—however, a blast from behind stunned the goon. He fell, face first, into the riverbed. Avander moved, instinctively, to roll him over and a little out of the water.

Promontory: (looking closer at Josh’s handiwork) I suppose that’s a fair and balanced response to him insulting Peri…

Sherlock: Response

Herrick: I figured shoot first, die later?

Promontory: Sound logic; works for me. (beat) But it might’ve been nice to integrate him…

Sherlock: Response

Herrick: I think I see part of her transport ::cupping his hands around his mouth:: Commander Peri, are you there?

Avander brought the ocular enhancers up to his eyes and focused in towards where the engineer was looking. The unmistakable form of the Gamma Glider, or rather pieces of it, lay scattered across the valley floor.

Promontory: (under his breath) What did you do to my ship!?

Avander didn’t have a moment to worry about Peri or look for more information as the sound of weapons fire again rang out.

Calamir (goon): You will hand both to us… now!. ::firing out several rounds in succession between Avander and Josh’s feet, significantly more deftly than his companion:: Or, you will die.

Sherlock: response

Promontory: On it!

He darted behind the rock that the other goon had used for cover. Crouching down, Avander lined up another shot and fired.

Another ‘close miss.’ He’d have to spend some more time at the range back on the ship.

Herrick/Sherlock: Response

Promontory: Remember, we want him alive and awake for questioning. (beat) If possible!

Three on one might have been unfair odds, but their attackers were obviously hostile and the Starfleet officers were on a mission. The second Bajoran didn’t stand a chance.

Herrick/Sherlock: Response

Promontory: Nicely done! (beat) Now let's go see if the Glider can offer any helpful clues!

Holstering his weapon, he moved down the ravine towards the wreckage of the vessel and the downed goon.

Herrick/Sherlock: Response
