((Turbolift Heading to Deck A))
Shevon couldn't be further from Aine in personality if she tried. Their lives had been polar opposites. Aine grew up as a rebellious child, Shevon, working on a freighter. As adults, Aine turned to order and duty, Shevon preferred to live a little looser.
S. Sherlock: It's just ::pausing to consider how to say it, but saying it anyways:: there's Aine Sherlock and then there's Lieutenant Sherlock. I like terrorizing both, her words, not mine. But I don't think Lieutenant Sherlock would appreciate that. So we might end up killing each other.
Shevon did care for her sister, and Aine did care for Shevon. Shevon also appreciated what Aine did for her with Starfleet. But like many siblings, especially ones who didn't know each other long, they often butted heads.
S. Sherlock: She can be so...
Herrick: … Stubborn?
S. Sherlock: Yes! So I won't be transferring to the 'Oumuamua. But I've seen there's some new ships coming to the flotilla, and I have considered one of those. So, close, but not too close.
It was almost as if Herrick had the same experiences with siblings that she had...though if he did, his was likely years and years of that experience. She felt sorry for him if that was the case. She couldn't imagine growing up with hers, one of them might not have made it out alive.
It didn't take long for the turbolift journey to end and the doors hissed open when they reached their destination. The doors seemed to stutter and hesitate as they opened. Shevon reached out as if she were going to push them open, then pulled her hand back thinking it'd be better to not get her hand crushed between them. Eventually they opened fully and she gave Herrick a look.
Herrick: Tricorders first. ::flipping open his tricorder and looking over to Sherlock:: What do you make of it?
S. Sherlock: ::looking down at her tricorder:: Structurally, I don't see anything wrong. No leaks, no vacuum.
Herrick: ::nodding:: They just finished the repairs, and with folks on extended shore leave and no active mission, all the decks in the pod are empty. ::looking through the reading:: It looks… sufficiently safe.
Shevon followed Herrick out of the turbolift, the only light being his torch leading the way and the glow of her tricorder lighting up her face as she held it close.
S. Sherlock: We need to get to the power supply conduit, make sure it's flowing right.
Herrick: That’s the logical first step; it’s located in the middle of the deck. (beat) You have good instincts.
With the Lieutenant leading the way, Shevon's attention had been on her tricorder. When he stopped, she almost bumped into him. She was about to apologize when she noticed the odd rumbling beneath their feet. Before either of them could speak up, the sound of an explosion in the distance suddenly rang out.
S. Sherlock: That's not supposed to happen...
Just as it looked like Herrick was going to respond, another explosion, one even closer, rang out.
Herrick: We have no time… we need to get out of here.
Shevon immediately about-faced and sprinted towards the turbolift. When both were in, she called out for Main Engineering, anything to get them away from the pod. The doors, again, hissed but hesitated. She leaned into one side, palms pressed against it, pushing it to the center.
S. Sherlock: Push!
Herrick: response
The sides of the doors clinked together and the turbolift began moving, humming along. Shevon looked up at the ceiling of the lift hoping for it to move faster. They were at its mercy as it was their only lifeline. More explosions were clearly heard above. The lift jarred and the sound of bending metal echoed, but the little lift chugged along.
S. Sherlock: What happened?
Herrick: response
S. Sherlock: Was there anyone else up there?
Herrick: response
