((Main Engineering, USS ‘Oumuamua))

The sensor pod was reading a complete and total power failure, after it had just been fixed by a quadruple threat of ops, engineering, damage control, and station personnel. He had only just signed off on the report prior to stepping out to meet Shevon. A phrase stuck out in his mind, ‘Inspect what you expect’ but there would be no way that he’d be able to double check everyone’s work — and he was working with trained officers.

When he asked the warrant officer if she was afraid of the dark, he got extreme laughter back; her white teeth contrasting her emerald skin. It was the hazard that came with the job, he wasn’t sure he’d ever met a nyctophobic engineer.

Herrick: Ready?

S. Sherlock: I'd say "race you there," but I don't know how to get there, so, lead the way!

Herrick: Onward and upward!

He took the lead, heading towards the turbolift entrance that sat just to the left of the large double-doored entrance.

S. Sherlock: Once we get up there, do you think the turbolift will make it all the way? Or are we going to have to use the Jefferies Tubes?

Herrick: ::flashing a grin:: Only one way to find out.

The warrant officer's concern was… warranted. Some mysterious power failure or power drain was affecting Deck A but the thought of climbing through cramped Jefferies tubes gave him a flash back to what happened with Kammus and the trigger for his claustrophobia.

S. Sherlock: Response

He stopped in his step for a moment, not wanting to appear too cavalier in the treatment of their lives.

Herrick: Typically, the EPS power distribution system feeds from both ends of the shaft, with redundant terminals at each deck, both vertically and horizontally. So, unless the EPS distribution system ruptures on both ends and at every deck, we should be good.

He hoped he wasn’t explaining something she already knew, but tried to keep it concise enough that if she did, it would not read like he talking down to her.

S. Sherlock: Response

As she pushed the button, the doors opened immediately. One of the nice things about being in a critical ship area was rarely needing to wait. The same held true for the Bridge, and Josh suspected that Toxin or Nilsen may have done the same for the new ops center.

The pair stepped inside Josh called out to the computer and called out for Deck A, to which the computer offered no resistance. It would take a minute to climb through and up the decks, so he continued to make small talk.

Herrick: Have you worked on the same ship together before? You and the Lieutenant I mean.

Josh wasn’t sure how he would feel serving with his sister. He loved her, enjoyed her company, but also appreciated the distance at times.
