((Gratitude Festival, Ashalla, Bajor))
The day had been off to a good start, especially without a warp coil in sight. He wondered exactly what the security officer might do with the recent forced addition to the group, an insistent juggler awaiting gratuity for no real services rendered.
Promontory: (grinning slyly) I have a tip for him. 'Don’t mess
with Aine!'
Sherlock: He'd be wise to heed that one.
The engineer had heard from the grapevine that Sherlock could handle herself, and then some. If that was the case, he wasn’t going to insert himself unnecessarily.
Promontory: Oh, I didn’t bring any money.
Josh wondered for a moment on the veracity of the claim. It may have just been a tactic to dissuade the entertainer. But, as the trio turned back to the vendor, they saw an impatient individual rubbing their thumb between her index and middle finger.
Promontory: Oh. (to the other officers) Anyone want to spot me a slip?
The vendor had already handed Herrick his roasted
vole on a stick, and with his remaining free hand, dug in pocket. Then, a
sinking feeling. Mentally, he could see the single slip he had in his possession
back onboard in his quarters. He wasn’t normally so absent minded; perhaps it
was a symptom of being burnt out.
Herrick: Errr.
Sherlock: ::mouth half full:: You guys didn't bring any latinum? Maybe they'll take Fed Creds?
Promontory: I guess we could do that.
Josh stuck out his thumb at the suggestion, ready to place it on a PADD and transfer the funds. After all, Bajor was a member of the Federation and it shouldn’t be an issue.
But, like some other far-flung worlds Josh had read about, it didn’t appear to be the case here given the vendor shook his head. Credits had gotten a bad rap if you weren’t from a ‘key Federation planet’ like Earth, Vulcan and Andoria. Here, on Bajor, you needed a currency that transcended political maps.
Sherlock: I got you guys, don't worry.
Herrick: ::feeling his cheeks blush a bit from embarrassment:: Thanks!
This probably wasn’t the best look for Josh, but the intelligence officer was also in the bucket; which helped reduce the sting.
Promontory: Response
Herrick watched as Sherlock doled out slip after slip, two more to the vendor and one to the juggler.
Juggler: Thank you! One more and I'll leave you alone for good!
Sherlock: ::sternly:: NO.
The abruptness had caused Josh to choke momentarily on his vole — he managed to swallow it down. Were the two of them going to come to blows, he wondered.
Promontory: Response
Unsatisfied with the payment, but seemingly not willing to risk a physical encounter, the juggler stepped away with a bit less spring in his step. It didn’t take long for him to disappear in the crowd, likely finding his next target.
The three of them stepped to the side of the food cart.
Sherlock: ::talking with her mouthful again:: It may not work in the Gamma Quadrant so much, but you guys should get your hands on some latinum. It's always good to have some, you never know when you'll need it.
Promontory: Response
Herrick: How does one earn a decent keep of latinum?
Sherlock: Mine? Gambling. I never lose. Luck'o'the Irish.
She gave the pair a wink.
Promontory: Response
Herrick: So, what you’re saying is she’ll keep the inside edge? ::grinning:: Perhaps when we get back up to DS9, I can start learning some Dabo basics from one of you; maybe some Starfleet Intelligence tips and tricks. ::waggling his eyebrows at Avander::
Promontory/Sherlock: Response
The conversation was fairing better than the food. He could see why the vole might be a popular dish, if you got over the fact that it was a dead animal, but it was clear the stall vendor was into it for profit, not quality. Before Josh could comment, not that he was a food critic by any means, a rather shabby man in Vedek attire walked up to them.
Vedek: Would you care to take a tour of the Monastery of the Kai?
Josh looked between the two officers; he wasn’t going to dictate the itinerary to a pair of lieutenants.
Promontory/Sherlock: Response
Vedek: I’m sure I could get you an orb experience, for the right… donation.
Herrick: It seems like latinum does most of the talking at the gratitude festival. ::looking at Sherlock:: You might end up feeling like you have a hole at the bottom of your pocket.
Promontory/Sherlock: Response
(OOC: Please feel to use the Vedek however you like 😊)
