((Grove of Trees above Glyrshar Canyon, Bajor))
A large tactical kit appeared with the transporting officers in some unremarkable wilderness of Bajor. Commander Katsim, unfortunately, was nowhere in sight.
Sherlock: Grab what you need from the kit, I got us covered.
Josh opened the kit as Avander rescanned their surroundings. It was a pleseant enough place—or at least it might have been, if there wasn’t so much anxiety in the air.
The engineer helped himself to a small cricket phaser.
Herrick: I’m told size doesn’t matter…
Avander looked down at the materiel that had been beamed down with them and at Josh’s choice.
Promontory: I heard of a science officer who hid a small anti-matter bomb in his epaulets, so I wouldn’t worry too much.
Avander strapped a rifle on his back, holstered a tricorder, and grabbed ocular enhancers.
Herrick: Your turn, Lieutenant.
After Aine got equipped the three officers circled up to make a plan.
Herrick: So how do we find her?
Promontory: Scans should be indicative—there’s unlikely to be many Cardassian/Bajoran hybrids around here.
Sherlock: We can try calling out. Or maybe being closer, the comms will work.
Mr. Herrick tapped on his combadge, but despite numerous attempts, it wouldn’t connect to the larger network.
Herrick: Uh Lieutenants, there seems to be some sort of dampening field around here, I don’t think we’re going to have much luck with comms or instruments.
Promontory: That’s probably why Commander Katsim and the Oumuamua were having difficulty staying in contact.
Sherlock : response
Herrick: ::shaking his head:: I can’t tell if it’s artificial, I am quite literally getting nothing. Even if we're not being detected, I suspect that we won’t be able to maintain contact if we separate.
Promontory: So, maintain line-of-sight as we search?
Sherlock: Response
Herrick: Do you hear that?
Avander inclined his ear. It sounded, maybe, like a being or beings wading through a small body of water.
Sherlock: Response
Promontory: It could be that Peri wasn’t alone out here.
Herrick: ::taking a step back into the woods to get a bit more cover:: What do we do?
Promontory: I think our efforts should be two-fold: 1) Find Peri, and 2) Find our own way out of here.
Sherlock: Response
Promontory: Josh, you’re an engineer, do you think you could… (waving hands towards the tac box) engineer something to help us punch through the interference?
Herrick/Sherlock: Response
Avander activated the ocular enhancers and stared through them to the ridges in the distance.
Promontory: Scanning now. (beat) Nothing yet. (beat) Let me try a different setting.
Avander fiddled with a few adjustments on the lenses and boosted the magnification.
Herrick/Sherlock: Response
Promontory: That’s better. (beat) But I still don’t see… Oh! There! I think that’s a Bajoran on the far side of the ridge.
He stuck his finger out in the direction he saw the movement and offered up the ocular enhancers.
Herrick/Sherlock: Response
