OOC: Timeline placement: This happens right after Shevon’s last sim and up to (and including) the Pax/Tox/Nilsen sims of the explosion.

((Deck A, USS ‘Oumuamua))

He immediately knew what the noise was off in the distance; it was the same as the one he’d heard on his first day. Just much further away. While it was faint, it was unmistakable, an EPS conduit had blown on the deck.

It had been just one, he would have chalked it up to faulty workmanship. The gods knew how far everyone was pushing themselves, and if the pressure didn’t let up, mistakes were bound to happen. But the fact that there was a second shortly afterward filled him with dread.

He looked over at the warrant officer, whom he’d just met less than an hour ago and had shared meaningful parts of her history and decided. Deck be damned, their lives were more important.

Herrick: We have no time… we need to get out of here.

Shevon was quick to act and sprinted in the other direction. She made it in first, followed by Josh, and called for Main Engineering. As the chief heavily panted, with his adrenaline running high, the lift doors attempted unsuccessfully to close.

The Orion across from him immediately sprung into her actions, leaning in, and trying with all their might one side of the door to the centre.

S. Sherlock: Push!

Herrick leaned in and mirrored Shevon’s actions; probably a bit too belatedly but it worked and finally the door gave way. As the doors closed, the turbolift began its typical descent. Another explosion above, Josh estimated their spacing was about 30-60 seconds apart Josh guessed. With each explosion, the lift rocked into the wall and the groaning of the ship could be heard.

S. Sherlock: What happened?

Herrick: ::realizing he hadn’t spoken since their escape:: EPS conduits are rupturing.

S. Sherlock: Was there anyone else up there?

Josh shook his head.

Herrick: If the readings are correct, no one was in the Sensor Pod when we got up there. Something though... something feels off. ::rubbing the back of his head:: There are double fail safes on the EPS conduit interlinks. If a conduit blows, the line before and after the affected system should automatically close, but it seems like they're going off in a chain.

Another rattling in the turbolift made it seem like the ship concurred. Automated klaxons had started to blare and, amidst the chaos, there was a familiar voice on the comm.

Arlill: =/\= Arlill to Herrick, do you read me. ::a pause:: Josh, do you copy? =/\=

Herrick: ::tapping his combadge:: =/\= I do, Lieutenant. I have Shevon Sherlock with me. The EPS conduits seem to be failing up on Deck A for some unknown reason.

Shevon/Arlill/Nilsen/Rouiancet: =/\= Response =/\=

Herrick: =/\= You mean it’s happening on all three decks? What about D-elta Deck? =/\=

Shevon/Arlill/Nilsen/Rouiancet: =/\= Response =/\=

Josh tapped in a sequence to override the lift’s destination back to Deck D, safety warnings be damned. He looked directly at Shevon as he spoke to the group, he would need her support for this crazy idea with a razor thin margin for error.

Herrick: =/\= If we can’t determine why it’s cascading, then we’re going to need to detach the pod manually. It takes two, and if my colleague here is willing to, we might be able to separate it from the ship and stem it off… ::feeling another explosion:: before we take us and a good part of DS9 with us. =/\=
