((Turbolift Heading to Deck A))
Small talk seemed to come easier to the acting cheng when it was with a stranger; he wasn’t as worried about his ‘onboard reputation’, and Shevon seemed easy to talk with. So did Salo. Perhaps there was something about an Orion that made things flow easier. He had just asked if the warrant officer had served on the same ship together.
S. Sherlock: Kinda, we were both on one-one-eight when she was there. But Engineering and Sec/Tac rarely interacted. We did live together though. But I'm not sure I'd want to serve with her on a ship.
Herrick: I… get that.
He didn’t think he’d survive a week with Em… he loved her. If they were on a giant ship or base and occasionally bumped into each other, it could be manageable. On the Oumuamua, he’d give it a week tops.
S. Sherlock: It's just ::pausing to consider how to say it, but saying it anyways:: there's Aine Sherlock and then there's Lieutenant Sherlock. I like terrorizing both, her words, not mine. But I don't think Lieutenant Sherlock would appreciate that. So we might end up killing each other.
Shevon seemed like she was choosing her words carefully.
S. Sherlock: She can be so...
Herrick: … Stubborn?
He wondered if that’s what he felt about his own sister, his subconscious filling in Sherlock’s blank.
S. Sherlock: Yes! So I won't be transferring to the 'Oumuamua. But I've seen there's some new ships coming to the flotilla, and I have considered one of those. So, close, but not too close.
Josh’s eyebrows shot up at the mention of new ships. The warrant officer was more informed than he was, but that might be a consequence of being buried in paperwork. When Kammus was chief, he made it look easy and effortless, and Josh hoped that would come soon.
He was about to ask more about the new ships, but he was interrupted by unusually loud hissing as the doors slowly opened — likely a symptom of a significant power flow issue. As the doors crawled open, the light spilled out from the doors into the pitch dark corridor.
Herrick: Tricorders first. ::flipping open his tricorder and looking over to Sherlock:: What do you make of it?
S. Sherlock: Response
Herrick: ::nodding:: They just finished the repairs, and with folks on extended shore leave and no active mission, all the decks in the pod are empty. ::looking through the reading:: It looks… sufficiently safe.
He stepped out and activated his palm beacon; the small beam of light cutting a swath through the darkness.
S. Sherlock: Response
Herrick: That’s the logical first step; it’s located in the middle of the deck. (beat) You have good instincts.
They walked forward, they only took a few steps forwards when he started to feel the deck vibrate. It was subtle, almost felt like the ship had gone to warp, but Josh knew they were still docked to DS9.
Then, not two moments later, the sound of an explosion in the distance.
S. Sherlock: Response
Josh opened his mouth to response, but another explosion cut him off, quickly followed by another. It sounded like they were getting closer.
Herrick: We have no time… we need to get out of here.
