(( Glyrshar Canyon, Bajor ))
The Vedek, who had shown up just when Etan needed him, had a quad bike. This was because Vedek Tersor Jayro was sensible and considered walking that distance, which was expected of someone of a holy order, an incredibly foolish thing to do.
Jay, as he preferred to be called, had offered Etan a choice.
Tersor: Now question for you, Commander Etan, do we go to the monastery? That’s the safe route, or should we look for your friend?
Jay could see that Etan had been pondering the virtues of going to find his friend; no doubt, concerns for her safety were at the top of his mind. Etan had been faced with a choice where both options were justified. He could have gone to find her, ensuring her safety - no one would blame the XO for that. But also, he had a mission to finish and an orb to return home, which was also a correct choice.
Somehow, choices with two right things to do always seemed to be harder.
Etan: Take me to the monastery.
Tersor: ::Smiles:: as you wish.
Etan had taken the passenger seat behind him and they had soon gotten underway. The quad bike was smooth; it seemed to almost float across the rocky terrain as if it were surfing the sea.
Etan: What were you doing out here? :: he asked over Tersor’s shoulder. :: This is a remote part of the planet.
Tersor: I live here ::He said with a hint of sarcasm::: No, too tell you the truth, my older brother has been having some bad dreams recently, and he described this scene, then I saw the news reports and the footage of your ship going down and I knew I had to come out.
Etan: Do… do you know what I am carrying, Vedek?
Tersor: I don’t, but if the Ohlavaru want it, then it’s going to be something big. I think l can infer.
Etan: If it’s all the same to you, I think I’ll keep it as a surprise for the time being.
Tersor: Would it surprise you if I said I wasn’t a fan of surprises. ::Beat:: but I get it, I’m a new person to you, I showed up at just the right time, and I persuaded you to put your trust in me. If I were you, I wouldn’t say what it is either.
Etan: Response
They continued on their journey for a few more minutes, and soon the monastery was in sight just on the horizon, even as the sun's heat bore down on them like a first officer chastising an unruly ensign.
Tersor: We’re nearly there, I don’t know if they have been sniffing around the monastery. It doesn't look it from here.
Etan: Response
Tersor: We’ll go the back way, just in case there is attention out the front. Any objections?
Etan: Response
Even at this distance, the monastery was a grand structure of age-old stone, with the dome-like structures and intricately carved patterns that spoke of its rich religious history. Despite its size, it seemed to blend seamlessly with the surrounding environment almost morphing in the landscape as the natural and the man-made sat in perfect harmony.
