OOC: So sorry for the delay on this.  I’ve FINALLY caught up with
everything.  I should be more consistent from now until the next wave of
insanity. 😃

IC:

((Deck 7, Sickbay USS 'Muamua))

Sasha had brought Kammus to sickbay.  Wait, no, scratch that, Kammus had
one to sickbay and brought her, that was because a new Engineer had
gotten heart.  Explosions.  Yes, they happened, it was part of being an
engineer.  Things went awry and you had to fix it.  It was just
unfortunate that it had happened so early in his career.

Even if Kammus hadn’t been the one to take them there, Sasha would have
pushed for him to go anyway.  While the burn he received wasn’t crazy,
it was still done in the field and one should always go to Sickbay
after, just in case.  Or maybe that was just Sasha, because she was a
mom and sometimes a little paranoid about that sort of thing.   Of
course, Kammus was being his silly self.

Johnson:  I honestly don’t know what I’m going to do with you. Herrick,
that’s your name right?  Don’t be like him.  I can only handle one of him!

Herrick: No promises Lieutenant, I’m one of the understudies.

Sasha clicked her tongue.  Two Kammuses!  What was the world coming
too!  Still, she enjoyed that the man had responded with humour.  Oh
yes, she was going to like this guy, and he would definitely fit in.

Corelli: I don't feel anything... I knew it. Chopped.

Herrick: Perhaps not exactly like him. He’s got stage presence!

Sasha chuckled and as Winters grinned at her, she shook her head. Men
could be so silly sometimes.  But she wasn’t complaining. Both were well
as far as she could tell, the nurse would do scans to make sure there
wasn’t something hidden that was an issue, and then they’d be good to
go.  Except, of course, there was all the ‘drama’ happening, and Winters
jumped in on it.

Winters: : I am not sure I can save the arm. Can you get me an Exocomp?
We can fit the unit to the chiefs arm at the elbow.

Herrick: Hmmmm… ::looking first at Correli, then at Winters and
Johnson:: Do we really need the Chief to have a sentient arm? How’s he
going to keep an eye on it when he sleeps?

Corelli: Exocomp! Not Borg? So much more useful. I'm sure you have one
laying around.

Kammus dropped his other hand, still holding out his now much improved
arm and Sasha resisted the urge to slap him upside his bald head.  She
might do it later.  Maybe.

Johnson: Borg indeed, don’t get me started!  But if it’s a new arm you
need, we’re engineers.  This is our thing!

Well, sort of.  There were some engineers who specialised in medical
devices and prosthetics, and who had specialised degrees in those areas,
but Sasha was pretty sure between the three of them, they could figure
out something almost as good for the time being.  That was, if it was
really necessary.  It wasn’t.

Sasha eyed the arm, her expression shifting.  For  a moment, there was
contemplation.  What *could* she do with a missing arm and creating a
new one?  All sorts of biomechanics would be wrapped up in the making of
it, and she was certain there were elements that she used on the ship
and the various devices on board that would translate.  Oh what a
challenge that would be!  She wasn’t serious, but it was a fascinating
thought!

Herrick: As long as you don’t put me on the duty roster for arm-related
baby sitting; (teasingly) prepare the exocomps!

Once again Sasha turned her attention to that arm, a wide-eyed, almost
crazed look crossing over her face, and her hands came together,
fingertips tapping against fingertips.  What insanity could she imagine?

Corelli: Good thing they have anti-gravity drive. Exocomps are heavy.

Both Herrick and Winters looked to be holding in quite a bit of mirth,
and Sasha’s mouth spread out in another wide grin.

Winters: ::brushing her bangs out of her eyes:: Just a little humor
chief. Don’t go getting your hopes up. No exocomp arm for you today.
::folding her tricorder closed:: You’re all set Lieutenant. You’ll have
to repair that uniform though, that’s not within my scope of training.

Kammus let out a forced, dejected sigh which set Sasha’s head shaking
again, before he eyed the poor, torn sleeve.  Or what was left of it
anyway.

Herrick: ::looking at Kammus:: Perhaps we can get a bulk discount. How
many uniforms do you go through in a month?

Corelli: On a good week? One. On a bad week? 5.  There's a replicator in
engineering for that reason, I think.

Johnson: Trust me, you probably don’t want to know.

There had been times that Sasha hadn’t even bothered to change, she was
so busy.  The uniform just had to wait at those moments. But yes, it was
not that uncommon….
Herrick: Well, I should probably have a couple backups in place… just in
case the replicators start malfunctions ::holding up his hands:: due to
no fault of my own.

Corelli: Maybe. And maybe you just have the touch of doom?

Kammus motioned with his finger in the air, touching a random spot in
front of him, then mimicked a small explosion with his hands, while
staring at Sasha.  Sasha stared right back, then leaned forward, her
eyes glinting with mischievousness.

Johnson: I *am* doom.

Winters: ::a devious grin crossing her lips:: Oh of course Dr. Kel will
be getting a full report about this. I am sure he’ll have follow up
questions for you Chief.

Corelli: Please inform the good doctor I will check up with him during
the week.

Johnson: And I’ll make sure he does so.

There she was, in mama mode, though Corelli was far too old to be her
son. Sibling?  Yeah, sibling.  Ah, but Herrick, how old was he?  Yes,
she *could* have a child that age, technically…

Oh man that made her feel old.

Really old.

Winters moved on and the trio of Engineers was left to their own
devices, which could be a very dangerous thing.

Herrick: (smiling) So it seems like I’ll be back on my feet right away
Chief. Perhaps we can do a second take on my first day. ::looking to
Sasha:: With less explosive results.

Johnson: That might be a good idea.  Then again, sometimes explosions
can be fun.

If they were controlled.  And intended.

Corelli: No, I think we will find much less exciting things for you to
do on your second day.  But, you still need to make sure everything on
the lower decks works.

Herrick: Now, I keep hearing about signing the hull of the ‘Oumuamua.
You wouldn’t happen to know where that spot is, do you?

Johnson: Ah, an engineer’s work is never done.  And really?  Where did
you hear this, hm?

Sasha knew right where it was, and had even gone and signed it. The
number of names on it was growing by the week.

Corelli: ::raising an eyebrow:: I'm sure I don't know what you're
talking about. And if you were going to do such a thing, don't sign it
with a plasma torch! First, we can detect localized temperature
increases on the hull. And second, if you have to use a plasma torch, do
it on the armor belt, at least you won't damage that area.

Johnson: Not that anyone has actually done anything like that.

Hopping down from the bed, Kammus aimed himself for the door, one hand
lifting to wave and both Sasha and Herrick.  She arched an eyebrow at
the Deltan.

Johnson: Abandoning us then?

Herrick: Response

Corelli: Yes, well. I will see you all on the next shift; and don't
forget the ship's song!

Sasha laughed.  The ship’s song, eh.  Yes, he had introduced that, and
her grin got even wider at the reminder of it.

Herrick: Response

Johnson: Oh yes, quite serious.  There really is a song.

Herrick: Response

Hopefully the new Ensign would try to learn the ship's song, and come to
understand all of the engineering department's ceremonies were done for
a reason.  Clapping a friendly hand on the man’s back, she motioned
toward the doors of the holodeck and started making her own way out.

Johnson: Come on, I’ll teach it to you while we work.

Herrick: Response
