::Carter was exhausted, but he could never pass up a good cup of coffee after working his tail off. He'd been a bit too tired to go surfing, and in truth he was still very very depressed about the missing Gorkon. Coffee helped take his mind off it for a little bit, but it was very much on his mind when Captain Taybrim managed to catch up with him.::

Taybrim:  Hello Carter.  ::he lifted a mug to the engineer:: I'm glad to meet you here...though I wasn't aware you were a fan of the Voodoo Lounge.  ::He smiled with a bit of humor before asking:: You wanted to talk to me?

Greyson: Highly recommended by the chief, this coffee was. ::He paused for a moment to have a sip of his delicious coffee.:: So...I need a favor.

Taybrim: Favor?  ::He perked a ginger brow::  Ask away.

Greyson: I need time. Medical leave, if you will....surfing and not much else. It's..it's Chythar, and I'm having a real rough time with it.

Taybrim:  Are you going to go looking for him?  ::He asked quietly.  It was something Sal wanted to do - but he had a duty elsewhere.::  Do you think he's still out there?

Greyson: I don't know, Sal. I really don't... ::He choked up, and a tear ran along his face as he spoke.::

Taybrim: It's OK... ::Sal reached out and rested a hand on the lad's shoulder in an understanding and reassuring manner.:: Don't give up hope.

::Carter looked up from his mug of coffee and met the gaze of the CO, as though searching his dark Betazoid eyes for the hope he so desperately wanted to cling to. He didn't know if Chythar was still out there, but the loss of his friend was weighing heavily upon him. Perhaps those dark eyes held something more than hope, but the young eengineer couldn't find it. The reassuring hand did calm him down a bit, and the longer it was left on his shoulder, the more relaxed Carter felt..::

Greyson: Think the old gal will survive without me for a bit? I don't think I can focus to give her the TLC she needs.

::Sal gave a nod and a reassuring squeeze to the lad's shoulder before pulling his hand back to have a sip of his coffee.::

Taybrim: Lieutenant, you can take what time you need.  You're better off healing or searching in your own way, and the engines are better off when you're healed and focused.

Greyson: If you find anything else out...like he's alive or somehing, you'll tell me, right?

::Sal gave another nod and seemed to give a reassuring smile, as though attempting to brighten the mood. Betazoids were notoriously good at that, and Carter could see what it was about this man his friend valued: the ability to listen and offer alternatives.::

Greyson: Thanks. ::He wiped away another tear and swallowed the remains of his drink.:: My paperwork for leave will be on your desk within the hour.

Taybrim: ::With care:: Good luck, Lieutenant.  We'll miss you while you're gone, but I hope - for CD's sake, for your sake - and mine - that you find what you are looking for.

::For all their sakes, the captain implied. That meant he had to find peace, or closure...or was he looking for both? He didn't know. He was certain whatever it was could be found on the waves, though. Maybe just a way to deal with his grief. That was something he learned long ago he couldn't do in the engine room. Specifically after his break-up with Ris.::

Greyson:
::He swallowed hard and gave a faint nod.:: I hope so too.

::After Taybrim had left the table, Carter produced a PADD and filled out the paperwork, requesting an LoA for medical reasons. It was true that he wasn't thinking clearly. It was also true that he hanled grief fairly badly on his own. His answers were in the waves, and those periods of sixteen second freedom they brought.::
